TERM 4 WEEK 2 THURSDAY 19 OCTOBER 2017
Reminders
Kindy OrientationJust next week we will have our new Kindy students for next year coming to visit as part of their orientation program. We look for-ward to welcoming Toby and Jere on Thursday next week. The days planned are:Thursday 26 October morning sessionThursday 2 November morning sessionThursday 9 November full dayCricketNext Friday students in the 2-6 class will be travelling to Eden PS to participate in a cricket gala day with a few other schools. There are still a few families yet to return their permission note- check the reminder box on this page to see if it’s you! Transport has been arranged. Thank you to the parents offering transport. The whole class of 10 attending will travel with Mr Din-woodie and Candice, in just two cars.Students should be at school ready to go at 8.45am.Please bring packed recess, lunch and water bottle. Please wear school uniform with shorts, and appropriate running shoes. School hats will also be taken so please ensure that they are not left at home. HatsWith the start of Term 4 we are enforcing our No Hat No Play pol-icy again. Just a reminder that hats should not be taken home; they should either be on your head or in your tray at school. If your child has lost the hat they were given, new hats are avail-able from the office for $10.School swimming schemeIn week 8, all students will be participating in the school swim-ming scheme, an intensive swimming program.Permission notes and more information are attached, so that payments can be made before the Christmas rush if you prefer! Students will travel by bus, leaving each day at around 10.45am for the double lesson at Sapphire Aquatic Centre from 12-1.15pm.The cost (which covers bus travel and pool entry) will be similar to past years: $60 per child, $100 for two child families and $140 for three. Paying online through the school website is always an easy option.FeesIt would be greatly appreciated if all outstanding fees could be finalised before the end of the year. If you have longstanding amounts owing, even a partial payment in the next week or so would be a great start.

Kids In2UniComing up in November is a special program for our Year 6 students introducing the idea of tertiary education and the many options. The KidsIn2Uni program consists of a module run at school with the class teacher, and concludes with a visit to the University of Wollongong (Bega campus) on Thursday 23 November. Mr Dinwoodie will travel in with the students in his car, but parents are also encouraged to attend if available.Responsible PetsOur visit originally deferred from earlier in the year has now been confirmed as Monday 13 November. The pet educator and her dog Leroy will be visiting the K12 class and building on the students’ knowledge and skills learnt in previous visits.SeesawEver wished you could see what happens in the classroom? K12 parents have that opportunity with the classroom blog set up through Seesaw. Pictures of your student learning, with some words describing the learning, and the opportunity to comment or ask questions are uploaded by Nicci regularly. The logged in parent can view just their own child. Only about a third of the K12 parents have logged on; its a shame to miss all those moments! It’s a great app- viewable either on your smartphone or via the Seesaw website. Details were sent home last newsletter for those parents not yet engaged- hope to see you there soon!Decorated fish and ocean life for Eden Whale FestivalLast term on Fridays, students added paint and sparkles and glow in the dark embellishment to their pieces for display at the Eden Whale Festival early next month. This is a new feature to be seen at the Marine Discovery Centre which will be lit using black lights. It might make it hard to find your fish or other animal, but proud to be part of an amazing display! The adjacent photos shows the classroom and the kids enjoying some creative time on a Friday- embellishments and glitter everywhere!End of YearJust pencilling in some dates:Wednesday 13 December- this will be our school concert and presentation evening. This will be the usual format of play, community supper, presentation evening and farewell Year 6, and then a few carols and a special visitor to finish the evening. Thursday 14 December- we have booked a pool party at Sapphire Aquatic Centre for the day after the concert night, with a later start too. Parents are encouraged to join us for a relaxed few hours at the pool, including some structured games and activities, or alternatively may like to have some unaccompanied time in town for Christmas shopping. More information later in the term.Principal positionThe permanent position for Towamba was advertised through the Department website last week. Application processing and interviews will be happening over the next few weeks and we should know by mid term what the result will be.
