TOURNAMENT PACKAGE
2014
TOURNAMENT PACKAGE
WELCOME
The Northwestern High School Trojans and the City of Rock Hill welcome you to the Manchester
Meadows Soccer Complex for the inaugural Bryan Ostrower High School Soccer Showcase. This three-
day event is being held to showcase some of the best high school soccer talent that the State of South
Carolina (and beyond) has to offer. But in addition to the soccer, it is also being held to raise
awareness for brain cancer and brain cancer research.
The tournament is being held in memory of a former Trojan soccer player and highly respected soccer
official, Bryan Ostrower. Bryan was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010 and passed away on March
7th 2011. Bryan was a loving husband to Alison and a father to three beautiful children; Evan (8),
Collin (6) and Hopelyn (3). In recognition of Brain Cancer awareness, the Trojans will forego their
traditional Purple and Gold uniforms for Gray (the official color of Brain Cancer awareness) in one of
the weekend’s matches. In addition, Northwestern High School will be donating $500 in honor of
Bryan to the Duke University brain tumor center.
On Saturday, March 1st, Manchester Meadowsy will be hosting a “Walk for Brain Cancer” at 1:30pm.
All members of the public are invited to show support for the fight against cancer.
The planning and execution of this weekend’s events required the support of many individuals;
however, special recognition goes to Buffalo Wild Wings, Stanno USA, Comfort Suites and the City of
Rock Hill.

2014 TOURNAMENT RULES
Points System
Points are scored as follows;
o a win nets three the winner (3) points,
o a tie nets both teams one (1) point and
o a loss nets the loser no points (0)
Bonus Points
o Each Winner will receive one (1) bonus point per goal differential up to three (3) bonus
points based on goal differential.
o Bonus points will only be awarded to the winner in each game.
Rankings
At the conclusion of round robin play, each team will be ranked based on points earned from wins
and ties. Any situation in which two (2) or more teams have the same number of points the tie will
be broken by using the following criteria in the order listed, one (1) after another as needed;
o head to head competition,
o bonus points up to three (3) points per game based on goal differential,
o fewest goals allowed,
o most shutouts and
o shootout from the penalty mark.
If more than two (2) teams are involved in a tie, the above criteria will be followed in order (omitting
head to head competition) until all ties are broken. If these criteria are not enough to break a tie,
the Kane Gaskill will have absolute discretion to break the tie by any method he deems appropriate.
There is no tie breaker related to most goals scored. No team will gain an advantage by running up
the match score beyond a three (3) goal differential.
Forfeit Match Scores
In round robin matches, a forfeit will be reported as 1-0 score for ranking purposes. In circumstances
in which a forfeited match is involved with determination of advancement in the tournament, all tie-
breaking criteria involving bonus points, most shut outs, or fewest goals allowed will be determined
on a per match average, excluding the results of the forfeited match. A team, which has forfeited a
match, will NOT advance or be declared a finalist.
Tie Matches
All tied matches in round robin play will stand.
Group Matches
All group matches will be two (2) thirty (30) minute halves and a five (5) minute half time period.
Finalist Match
The finalist match to determine third (3rd) and fourth (4th) place will consist of two (2) thirty (30)
minute halves. If tied during regulation a coin toss by Kane Gaskill in the presence of Blair Moore
and Sheila Welborn will determine choice of goals to defend. Teams will go straight to penalty kicks
to determine final standings after group play. NO OVERTIME will be played.
Championship Match
The championship match to determine first (1st) and second (2nd) place will consist of two (2) thirty
(30) minute halves. Teams will go straight to penalty kicks to determine final standings after group
play. NO OVERTIME will be played.
Shoot-out Procedure for Finalist and Championship Match

o Referee will decide the goal to be used for the shootout.
o Team winning the referee’s coin toss may elect to kick 1st or 2nd.
