Dear Players and DelegatesFirst of all, I am extremely proud that I have the opportunity to welcome you to Finland. On behalf of the organizing committee and the Senior Golf Association of Finland, I want to warmly welcome you to our country and the beautiful city of Hämeenlinna.

We are honouring a long tradition as the tournament this year is organized for the 37th time! In total we have 22 participating countries: 21 in the Championship and 22 in the Cup. I believe we have an exciting week ahead of us, with old and new friends. Both courses should be in excellent condition and hopefully you will enjoy all the facilities at the two clubs.

However, life is not just about golf, so I am hoping you will also get a chance to explore Hämeenlinna and the surrounding landscape during this tournament week.

I would like to thank the organizing committee and all those who have worked to prepare this event, without forgetting our volunteers, who will be helping us the coming days.

The weather was almost tropical last month, fingers crossed the Finnish summer continues! I wish you all the best and a great stay in the city of Hämeenlinna.

75 years of golf at AulankoThe two golf courses at Aulanko, the historic 9-hole Hugo course and the modern 18-hole Eversti course, are both named after Colonel Hugo Standertskjöld. The Colonel was one of the wealthiest men of his time in Finland and the founder of the English style landscape park at Aulanko in the 1880’s.Hugo, first opened in 1940, is the oldest course in Finland still retaining its original routing. Eversti, which is the Finnish word for colonel, opened for play in 2006.

Tawast Golf course is an 18-hole course in Hämeenlinna, a city in southern Finland only about 100 km from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. This charming course was designed by Architect Reijo Hillberg to be in perfect harmony with the surrounding woodland, the lake and the beautiful buildings of the area.

The clubhouse used to function as a horse stable for the Katinen Manor. The clubhouse is located in the centre of the course and offers a relaxing atmosphere for a break after 9 holes and of course after 18 holes.

South East, the older of the two courses at Kytäjä was completed in 2003. As the first world-class golf course in Finland it gained immediate interest and attention. Its position as one of the top courses in Finland has only strengthened over the years. The course has a dual personality. The first nine holes are situated in a spacious forest landscape with great variations in elevation. The back nine is more level and open reminiscent of traditional links-style courses. Typical features of the South East course include wide fairways, deep bunkers and large greens. The boldly shaped and multifaceted greens are demanding to play well.

Take a day off from golf and experience a pleasant excursion in the surroundings of Hämeenlinna. The tour starts with a relaxing boat trip along the beautiful lake Vanajavesi to Visavuori Art Museum. The museun shows the life and works of sculptor Emil Wikström. Lunch is served on the boat. From Visavuori the tour continues to one of Finland s most famous glass works Iittala where you can visit the factory and museum and do some shopping in the several outlet stores.
