AmajorgoalfortheOrchestraistocontinuebuildinganddevelopingthesonicpersonalityoftheOrchestra. World-renownedguestartistsandconductors,inpartnershipwithMusicDirectorAnu Taliwillplayacentralroleinaccomplishingthisartisticgoal. Theartistryofthesevariedanddiversemusicalpersonalitiesissuretoappealtoculturaltouristsandotherartspatronswhomightotherwiseneedtotraveltoamajormetropolitanareatoexperienceperformancesofthiscaliber.Alwaysforemostinourplanningstrategyisexpandingourprogrammingtoappealtoawiderangeofmusicaltasteswhileaddressingachangingdemographic.WecontinuetodevelopourroleasaculturalleaderinSarasotaCountywhileincreasingourregionalandnationalvisibility.

AmajorgoalfortheOrchestraistocontinuebuildinganddevelopingthesonicpersonalityoftheOrchestra. World-renownedguestartistsandconductors,inpartnershipwithMusicDirectorAnu Taliwillplayacentralroleinaccomplishingthisartisticgoal.

SIMPLIFIEDVERSION

Our2018-19seasonmarksthe43rdyearofthePopsOrchestra.Begunasafledglingensemblecreatedtoprovideperformanceopportunitiesforcommunitymusiciansithasevolvedintoavolunteerorchestraofprofessionalquality.ThePopsnownumbersoversixty-fivemusicians,drawnfromthegreaterSarasota/Bradentoncommunity.In2014,werebrandedourselvesasthe"PopsOrchestra"withthetagline"MusicYouLove,MusiciansYouKnow"tobetterreflecttheprogrammingwefeatureandthecommunitybasesharedbybothourmusiciansandaudience.Thisseasoncontinuesourvisiontocontributetotheculturalrichnessofourcommunitybyprovidinglocalmusicianstheopportunitytoperforminahigh-qualityensemble,presentterrificconcertsataffordablepricesandbeacatalystforartscollaboration.Inpastseasons,wehaveestablishedstrongrelationshipswithourlocalveteransorganizationsspearheadedbytheSarasotaChapteroftheMilitaryOfficersAssociationofAmerica.WepartnerwithlocalcollegesincludingtheStateCollegeofFloridaandtheRinglingSchoolofArtandDesign,artsorganizationsincludingSarasotaChoralArtists,theWestCoastBlackTheaterTroupeandtheManateeConcertBand.And,in2017wewerehonoredtoperformtoover10,000peopleduringtheOpeningCeremonyoftheWorldRowingChampionships.

Thisseasoncontinuesourvisiontocontributetotheculturalrichnessofourcommunitybyprovidinglocalmusicianstheopportunitytoperforminahigh-qualityensemble,presentterrificconcertsataffordablepricesandbeacatalystforartscollaboration.Theprojectvision/goalneedsaddedspecificitysuchas:Indoingso,wewillusethetheme“PopsStarsTaketheStage.”

Ourgoalistopresentcontemporaryandunusualworksperformedbyworld-classmusiciansandourownstudentsinwaysthatengageandchallengeouraudience.Weworktoattractavariedaudiencewitharangeofagesandbackgrounds.Thisvitalmixofpeopleinterestedinexploringthenewmakeforamorevibrantexperienceforbothperformersandaudience,wehavefound.Keytodevelopingthisaudienceisestablishingtrust,andwehaveachievedthisinthreeways.First,ouraudiencetruststhatNMNCconcertswillbefirst-rate,ofteninvolvingvisitingartistsrecognizedinternationallyasleadersincontemporarymusic.Second,audiencesknowthatNMNCprogramsarerelativelyshort,lastingaboutanhour.Thisenablesaudiencestogivethemselveswholeheartedlytotheexperienceofmusicthatissometimesverydemanding,withoutbeingoverwhelmedbytoomuchnewinformation.Finally,NMNCapproachestheconcertexperienceholistically,ensuringthataudiencesfeelwelcomedandorientedfromthefirstcommunication,toenteringthelobby,tolisteningtothemusic,andenjoyingthewarmandinclusivereceptionsthatfollow(orareconcurrentwith)performances.NMNCisknownasoneoftheleadingcontemporarymusicseriesinthecountry.Theproposedeventsarenotofferedaspartofstateorregionaltours.Forloversofnewmusicinourarea,theonlyplacetoexperiencethesevisitingartistsorournewly-createdworkswillbeatNewMusicNewCollege.NewCollegeNewMusic

The70orsoartistsworkingattheHermitageduringthegrantperiod-painters,playwrights,composers,poets,andmore- willshowcasetheirworkthroughprogramsdesignedandimplementedbytheHermitageprogramstaff.Ourgoalistomaketheseprograms,includingreadings,concerts,openstudios,andartdemonstrations,accessibleandfreetotouristsandresidentsalikethroughoutSarasotaCounty.Thiswillbeaccomplishedbyofferingbetween20and28programsduringtheSeason,eachwitharichvarietyofartsdisciplines,andheldattheHermitageonManasotaKeyoratotherartsorganizationstoadditionallyservetheiraudiences.
