Make your plans now to join the fun in City Park on Friday, August 1st and Saturday, August 2nd for the first Rhythm and Brews. Bringing together three events, Brew 2 Shoe, UPC’s Little Apple Music Festival, and the newest event, Hail the Ale, which will bring visitors to town to compete as well as enjoy our beautiful City Park. Lace up your running shoes to be a part of the Brew 2 Shoe early on Saturday morning, August 2nd. Pick up your runners packet at the GTM Family Center on Friday evening, 7-9 PM. Stay for the pasta feed (runners only – and you MUST pre- register for the meal with race registration) and stay for the Arts in the Park Music venue Friday night featuring the Band, “Run Boy Run.” After you complete the 5K or 10K Brew 2 Shoe event Saturday morning, shower and change and head back to the GTM Family Center at City Park to participate in the Home Brew Competition, Hail the Ale, and microbrewery sampling, from around the region. Workshops and sampling will be conducted from 1-4 PM. $25 Day Pass - includes 4oz samples of micro- brews (limited to the first 300 tickets sold) $35 Night Pass - includes BBQ meal and three 16oz brews $50 All day pass - includes 4oz samples of micro- brews, BBQ meal and three 16oz brews. Make plans now to get to the FlintHills Discovery Center to see their new Temporary exhibit featuring the Ice AgeImperials. Learn about what life was like in this region during this time period millionsof years ago. Try your hand with the 3-D Mastodon puzzle – it is much more compli-cated than you think – but when completed – you will have a great idea as to how bigthe Mastodon’s were! Touch the fossils that are more than 500 million years old. Yes– this exhibit brings the Ice Age to live with the saber-toothed cats, giant sloth,Woolley mammoth and more! Thank you Stampede Volunteers!Manhattan has hosted Stampede for the past 19 years, put-ting Tuttle Creek State Park and The Little Apple® on themap for Country Artists and fans! This great event wouldnot take place without the help of countless volunteers.The Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau would liketo thank the Flint Hills Job Corps Student Governmentstudents and RSVP volunteers for their assistance in put-ting together over 3000 welcome bags that were distrib-uted to campers and hotel guests.

Many thanks to the following volunteers who helped manthe information booth and set up VIP chairs on the festivalgrounds. It’s July and time for the RileyCounty Fair and Kaw ValleyRodeo. Activities begin in onThursday, July 24th with theRiley Co. Fair Parade featur-ing 4-H clubs from across theCounty. Parade begins onPoyntz Ave at 6 p.m.

The Kaw Valley Rodeo opensthe gates to entertain withthrills and spills as profes-sional cowboys compete atWells Arena. Thursday nightis Military Appreciation nightas well as kid’s night. Rodeobegins at 8 p.m.

Friday, July 25th, join the BlueValley Pork ProducersBarbeque for a great meal!

Check out the 4-H projectsincluding clothing, arts andhandiwork and photographyinside Pottorf Hall; watch thelivestock shows in HurlbertBarn from 7-10 p.m., riderides, and hoot and holler forthe rodeo in Wells Arenafrom 7-10 p.m.

Saturday, July 26th’s scheduleis a full day of judging. Therabbit show begins at 8 a.m.,goats at 10 a.m., horticultureat 10 a.m., photography at 1p.m., swine at 7 p.m., and theusual rides and games runfrom 6-11 p.m. This is thefinal night of the rodeo, kick-ing off at 8 p.m.

Sunday the 27th brings morejudging throughout the day aswell as all your favorite carni-val rides and games from.

Monday, July 28th the fair funall comes to an end. Live-stock auction begins at 7p.m. Come out and supportthose 4-Hr’s as they haveworked hard on their live-stock projects. Carnival ridethrills for the final evening.

5A Baseball fans came to cheer on their teams in May. Eventhough the last out was called a couple of months ago andthe newly crowned Baseball Champs, St. Thomas Aquinas,and Softball Champs, Wichita Bishop Carroll, of the KansasState High School 5A Baseball and Softball Tournament arestill being recognized as champs in their hometown. Wecontinue to celebrate the efforts of our volunteers whomade this tournament spectacular.

The Manhattan CVB thanks the many volunteers who assist-ed in making the State Tournament a success on May 29-30.We especially send a huge shout –out of THANKS to RodFranz, his wife Karen, daughter and grandchildren who madeit a family affair to organize the tournament, welcome offi-cials and fans. Without their dedication to the youth ofKansas – this Championship tournament would be justanother game. To all of our volunteers – THANK YOU!
