    Wakkerstroom is one of South Africa'spremier birding destinations. Birdwatching is one of the activities thatare considered to be less importantamong certain ethnic groups. MTPA identified thenecessity to create more awarenessto communities on domestic tourismand encourage them to appreciate theamenities that surrounds them.     tours so they are able to practice their

    navigational skills, driving skills and

    test their endurance. Getting close to

    nature, having fun and challenging

    adventurers is what 4x4 driving is all

    about, and Mpumalanga is filled with

    untamed beauty to discover. There

    are numerous fantastic 4X4 trails in

    this beautiful Province such as

    Riverwild, Ebutsini, Luphisi, Mac Mac

    summit route, and so on. For the

    purpose of this event the following

    trails will be considered: Riverwild,

    CEREMONY

    20 SEPTEMBERMpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will be conductingTourism school competition for grade11 and learners. The tourism schoolscompetition will be conducted with anintention to create awareness ontourism issues. The theme of thecompetition is Tourism andSustainability Energy Poweringsustainable Development. Thecompetition is designed so that it iseasy for learners to enter. Learnersmust complete a simple assignment

    which will be assessed against rubricsthat will be provided to educators. Thiscompetition is open to all public andprivate secondary schools inMpumalanga inviting students toexpress their ideas, thought andcreativity and art. The competition isaimed at educating young peopleabout tourism, stimulate excitementand interest about the industry andexpose students to the numerouscareer options that are available in thetourism industry. It also strives toeducate primary and early secondaryschool children about the importanceof tourism in their region as well as

    TOURISM SAFETYROADSHOW

    The level of crime in Mpumalanga isunfortunately high and cases of crimesuch as robbery, assault car highjackings, theft and pickpocketingoccur everywhere in the province.Most cases of crime received highprofile in the media which in turndiscouraged tourists from visiting notonly the Province. A roadshow thatwill focus on issues affecting safety of tourists will be conducted in areas thatare higly affected by crime targeted attourists. There is a pressing need toraise safety standard in the entiretourism industry and to improve thecountrys image as a destination. Areas to be covered during theroadshow are Kanyamazane,Kabokweni, Nelspruit, Mkhuhlu, whiteriver, Hazyview and Bushbuckridge.The roadshow aims at creating
