A Message from Colin Basran, Mayor of Kelowna

On behalf of the residents of Kelowna, welcome to our city.

Kelowna’s great climate, big, beautiful lake and surrounding mountains offer visitors unparalleled outdoor recreation options, including some of the best skiing and golf experiences in Canada. After a day of this natural beauty, visitors can explore our urban centres and discover our fine dining options, wineries, orchard tours, nightlife, and shopping to suit all tastes.

KELOWNA∂

WELCOME TO KELOWNA. IN THE EARLY 1900S, FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE NAMED KELOWNA AFTER THE "GRIZZLY BEAR". TODAY, KELOWNA TRANSLATES INTO "BC'S MOST POPULAR PLAYGROUND" FOR THOSE WHO LIVE AND VACATION HERE.

What is there to see and do around Kelowna? Take the kids on a hike or a zipline across canyons. Cycle

the historic Myra Canyon trestles. Have a family day at the lake. Rent a boat, stand up paddleboard or

"hang ten" at one of over 30 local beaches. Spend a day picking through farms and fruit stands, then

have a glass (or two) of Okanagan wine – some wineries offer grape juice tasting for the kids!

As the largest community in the Okanagan

Valley, the lakeside city of Kelowna is a popular

recreational paradise with miles of beautiful

parkland and sandy beaches that provide won-

derful opportunities for boating, swimming,

waterskiing, paddling, windsurfing, and fish-

ing. Even Kelowna's main street ends at a beach!

Savour Kelowna's emerging foodie scene, relax

on an outdoor patio, stroll along the lakeside

boardwalk, explore local markets for treasures

being sold by talented artisans, or enjoy a free

concert in the park.

Golfers can select from 18 local golf courses

totalling a whopping 101,382 yards. If you're

a wine enthusiast, touring Kelowna is definite-

ly a must. There are 28+ unique wineries in and

around Kelowna offering tours and tastings

for all varieties of palates.

Wine Trail. Visit the Westside Farm Loop for fresh produce. Take a self-guided tour through the century

old Gellatly Nut Farm. Enjoy ‘Music in the Park’ each Friday night in the summer. Hit the trails for a

hike or ride.

Sitting on the edge of nature, West Kelowna,

referred to as ‘the Westside’ by locals, is situated

on the west side of Okanagan Lake, opposite

the city of Kelowna. Here visitors can revel in

charming farmgate operations, forested parks,

miles of hiking trails, orchards and vineyards,

and spectacular vistas. Waterfront recreation

along Gellatly Bay is perfect for strolling the

waterfront walkway, building sandcastles or

ziplining into the clear, sparkling waters off

the historic ferry dock.

Here you will also find wineries, architecture,

artisans, First Nation heritage and sculptures,

culinary delights and familiar stores for conve-

nient shopping. We invite you to take the road

What is there to see and do around Lake Country? Shop for fresh-picked produce at local fruit stands

and the Friday afternoon Farmers' Market. Spend a lazy day at the beach. Cycle farm roads. Hike the

The Kelowna area boasts 18 courses that range from easy-going to ego-shattering. Discover more at www.golfkelowna.com

Ò Averaging over 2,000 hours of sun every year, Kelowna offers one of the longest, driest golf seasons in Canada. Golf from early spring well into the gorgeous fall season.

Ò Vineyards, orchards, semi-desert terrain, rolling hills, and expansive lakes make the golf courses throughout Kelowna some of the most picturesque in the country.

Ò Many clubhouses also offer après golf dining experiences that range from casual to gourmet.

Ò Notable course designer names include Jack Nicklaus, Les Furber, Fred Couples, Graham Cooke, and Thomas McBroom.

Ò Most golf courses are in close proximity to one another making it easy to play two courses a day.

Okanagan Lake: hot summer days + refreshing water = endless fun.

Ò The lakeside city of Kelowna and area has more than 30 beaches – many with playgrounds, picnic areas, concessions, and restroom facilities – even main street ends at the beach. See page 29 to pick your spot for the day.

Ò Okanagan Lake is 110 km long and curves its way north and south through Okanagan Valley.

Ò Enjoy the lake at an inflatable water park, on a stand up paddleboard (SUP), houseboat, ski boat, charter, sailboat, jet ski, flyboard, pedal boat, kayak, or canoe. See page 27 for possibiities.

Ò The lake is welcoming and refreshing, but it also has its mysteries – tombs and hidden coves. Hike the Paul's Tomb trail near Knox Mountain and snorkel in the crystal clear water of the quiet, secluded bays. See if you can spot the elusive Ogopogo.

Ò Settlement in the Okanagan Valley began over 6,000 years ago with the Syilx/Okanagan people who thrived on hunting, fishing, gathering, and trading .
