Please bear in mind as we traverse many far reaching destinations, the local infrastructure varies and isbeyond our control. BOOKING & CANCELLATION DEADLINESShore excursions must be purchased on or before the booking deadline for each port of call. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis; some tours are very popular with guests often ending up being wait-listed: in order to avoid disappointment, it is thereforesuggested to book in advance via my.silversea.com from 120 - 7 days prior to sailing. Last-minute requests to participate on excursions aresubject to space availability, which in some cases may not be determined until departure time pier-side. Please note that certain shoreexcursions may have different reservation deadlines and may incur cancellation fees if cancelled after the deadline. Experience the spectacular beauty of the Corsican Mountains during this half-day excursion to the Prunelli Gorges, with refreshments at a localcafe.Enjoy a half-day outing into Corsica's beautiful and rugged interior. Driving out of Ajaccio you will pass the busy yacht harbor and then continuealong a stretch of beach. Your route takes you by the airport situated in the crook of the splendid Gulf of Ajaccio. Then head inland towards themountains, an immensely varied drive. Corsican CountrysideThe island's natural beauty includes fragrant forests, deep gorges and jagged mountains covered by maquis, the typical vegetation of Corsicaincluding myrtle and Green and Cork oaks among others. As the road climbs to the village of Cauro, enjoy remarkable views over the Gulf ofAjaccio and the Sanguinaires Islands. Climbing still higher, the landscape changes dramatically from gardens and orchards to the bare jaggedgranite of the gorges themselves. Prunelli Gorges and Tolla LakeNext, head along a narrow road and through the impressive Prunelli Gorges. A stop at the man-made Tolla Lake view point allows for a closerlook at the different plants comprising the maquis while enjoying the stunning landscape surrounded by mountains more than 6,000 feet high.On the way a comfort stop will be made. Please note: This tour requires a minimal amount of walking, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Leaving the bus at the parking lot, commence your exploration on foot. Majorhighlights include a look at the beautiful façade of the 15th-century Palazzo Corvaia located at Taormina's northern centre, a brief visit to theCathedral and the exterior of the Odeon, a small Roman theatre. Greek TheatreFollowing an uphill walk, reach the site of this stunning theatre. With a diameter of 358 feet (107 metres), it is the second-largest theatre in Sicily,after Syracuse. Reconstructed in the 2nd-century, the theatre is in excellent condition and has marvellous acoustics that are still appreciated atcontemporary performances of classical plays. From the upper tiers, there are spectacular views including majestic Mount Etna. See the exteriorof the Odeon, a smaller version of the Greek Theatre. Corso UmbertoEnjoy some free time to independently explore Taormina's main street, Corso Umberto, and the narrow alleys adjacent to it. Wander down lanesbordered with bright flowers and browse for local handicraft items, such as ornate embroidery, intricate lace and colourful Sicilian pottery. At the appointed time, re-join the group for the drive back to Giardini Naxos, where the ship's tender awaits. Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking (approximately .25 mile or 400 metres in each direction) both up and down anincline between the coach location and the village and at least .7 miles (1100 metres) to see other sites. There are steps and uneven terraininside the theatre. Sicily'sgreatest natural attraction is also its highest mountain, rising 10,910 feet (3,326 metres) above sea level. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna wasthe realm of Vulcan, the god of fire and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclop. Depart the pier at Giardini Naxos and travel through the delightful countryside of vineyards and orchards. Then, the road winds up themountains' slopes, passing through vast fields of lava to the extinct Silvestri Craters, located at an elevation of 5,700 feet (1,737 metres) abovesea level. Here, explore the site, walking across hardened lava rock and along the edge of the craters whilst imagining how they appearedthousands of years ago when they were filled with hot lava. Caution is advised; watch out for crevices and slippery ground. More than 100eruptions have been recorded since the 4th century BC, the most recent (at time of this printing) in March of 2013. Evidence of this latest activityis still visible. Leaving Silvestri Crater, drive back down through the expanse of lava fields and head toward the pier and the ship at Giardini Naxos. Please note: This tour offers panoramic views with an opportunity to explore the volcano crater if you wish. Walking along the Crater isoptional to the participants and requires an extensive amount walking/hiking which some is over rocky and uneven ground.Guest with mobility issues or who don't want to participate in the walk may remain at the Coffee/Souvenir shop and wait there for the groupto return.
