INTRODUCTION• The race was first organized in 1903 to increase paper sales for the magazine L'Auto it is currently run by the Amaury Sport O anisation. • The race has been held annually since its first edition in 1903 except for when it was stopped for the two World wars

The winner would thereby win six times The first Tour de France was staged in 1903. The plan was a five-stage race from 31 May to 5 July, starting in Paris and stopping in Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux and Nantes before returning to Paris
• Tour de France was made up of 21 stages and covered a total distance of 3,500 kilometers.
• These 21 stages had the following profiles:– 10 flat stages, – 5 mountain stages, – 4 medium mountain stages, – 2 individual time-trial stages.

The Red Polka Dot Jersey it is worn by the best climber. Points for the best climber classification are awarded at the top of any classified slope. The prize money is doubled on the four stage finishes that will take place at the summit of climbs. The Polka Dot Jersey has been sponsored by Carrefour.
