Tools for McAfee partnersMcAfee offers these web-based tools to assist partners with managing their customer accounts:

McAfee Security Alliance eXchange (MAX) — A management portal for partners in the McAfee Security Alliance Program that provides access to real-time SKU, MSRP pricing, and solution configuration for all McAfee security products. It supplements existing price lists and provides automated assistance for solution configuration and opportunities to sell additional McAfee products.

Partner Portal — A management portal for partners with features for creating trial subscriptions, placing orders, generating business reports detailing order information, and maintaining customer profiles. The Partner Portal also allows partners to create subaccounts allowing access only to information needed to perform particular functions (for example, sales, support, or administration functions).

Partner SecurityDashboard — A management portal for partners that displays customer security and subscription-related information for SMB managed products. This tool enables partners to easily track subscription data and action items for all customers, and provide value-added service by remotely installing McAfee security software and monitoring ongoing security at customer sites using the McAfee SecurityCenter website.

See Contact information on page 31 for information about accessing these and other McAfee websites.

What is the Partner SecurityDashboard? The Partner SecurityDashboard is a secured management console that facilitates remote order and reporting administration. It supports Total Protection sales made through the McAfee Network Operations Center. The Partner SecurityDashboard enables McAfee partners to efficiently monitor their SMB customer accounts by consolidating important information about subscriptions and security status into a single report interface. <Is there a more appropriate term than Network Operations Center?>

Which types of customers can you monitor? Use the Partner SecurityDashboard to monitor accounts for two types of customers:

You can specify the customer type in the partner account profile (see Configuring email for partner-managed customers on page 22).

What information is displayed? The information displayed in the Partner SecurityDashboard depends on:

Partner type -- Are you a PSS partner, non-PSS partner, or combination of both? See About McAfee partners.

Customer type -- Do you or your customers manage customer security? See Which types of customers can you monitor?

Self-managed They purchase protection services from you but monitor their own site security.

You keep track of which protection services they have purchased, ensure that subscriptions and licenses remain current, and ensure they have enough licenses available to meet their needs.

Partner-managed They purchase protection services and security monitoring from you.

You keep track of which protection services they have purchased, ensure that subscriptions and licenses remain current, and ensure they have enough licenses available to meet their needs. In addition, you monitor security for their client computers by checking their SecurityCenter website to track detections and security status.

Note

Before you can access security data for your partner-managed customers, they must sign a PSS customer agreement in which they agree to let you access and monitor their web-based security reports. You should keep a copy of the agreement.

Adding new customers to the Partner SecurityDashboard

When you place an order or create a trial subscription, your customer data is added to the Partner SecurityDashboard automatically.

Migrating existing customers to the Partner SecurityDashboard

PSS partners initially see only one account listed in the pd, which is their own account as a customer with McAfee. To view separate accounts, they need to migrate each customer to its own account.

Migration means moving a customer’s account out of your account to a separate account that includes a unique login for the SecurityCenter. After you migrate a customer account, it appears as a separate listing in the Partner SecurityDashboard, and you can log in to that customer’s SecurityCenter to manage security and reporting for that customer.

To migrate an account: 1 In the Partner SecurityDashboard, click on the My Account tab, then select

Migrate Customer.

2 For an account you want to migrate, select Select for Migrate under Partner Tasks.

A page appears listing the order(s) for that customer. You can migrate one or multiple orders to a single, separate account. Typically, you would probably want to migrate all orders for a single customer to one account.

3 For each order that you want to migrate, select the checkbox under Partner Tasks.

4 Click Continue.

5 On the Customer Information page, enter or edit the contact information for the customer’s account.

6 Select Manage security for this customer if this is a partner-managed customer.

Note

Updates to subscription information might take up to an hour to appear in the Partner SecurityDashboard.

Note

2

Recommendations for monitoring customer accounts Instructions for performing administrative tasks are provided in the SecurityCenter online help or the Product Guide (see Site administrator documents on page 29).

Monitoring self-managed customers

Monitoring partner-managed customers

Monitoring self-managed customers McAfee recommends that you proactively check for subscriptions that will expire and renew them to prevent a lapse in protection. Also check to ensure that enough licenses are available to accommodate any new client computers that you anticipate being added to the account.

1 For Subscription status select the specific type of status you want to check.

2 Under Purch/Avail, check the number of available licenses.

If you expect a customer to need more licenses than are available, take steps to purchase additional licenses.

Monitoring partner-managed customers Monitoring subscriptions, renewals, and licenses as described in Monitoring self-managed customers.

Also, McAfee recommends that you proactively track the types of suspicious programs, files, and activities being detected and where they are occurring.

Initial tasks, repeated when needed 1 For each partner-managed customer, McAfee emails you a unique installation URL

to install protection services. Install Total Protection by visiting the customer site or by forwarding the installation URL to the customer. <Can they use push install? silent install?>

2 After installation, access the customer’s SecurityCenter and create a policy of security settings. (The McAfee Default policy is in effect until you create a customized policy.)

3 Create groups of client computers, if needed, and assign a policy to each. This can be helpful if the customer has many client computers, or if the computers use different security settings.

Recurring tasks 1 In the Partner SecurityDashboard, for Security status select Action Required, then check

for action items that indicate security risks. Click an action item to view instructions for resolving the problem.

2 Monitor the customer’s status emails and security reports regularly. If you detect security risks, take steps to correct them or suggest solutions to your customer.

3 Send regular status summary reports to reassure your customer that you are actively monitoring security (see Sending reports to customers on page 17).

25

Page 26: Total Protection for Small Business

2

4 Send additional, detailed reports to your customers as needed (see Sending reports to customers on page 17). For example, you might want to send your customers the Detection History report on a monthly or quarterly basis, to show the value of the Total Protection solution.

5 Whenever your customer adds new computers, install protection services, then assign the correct group and policy.

6 For customers who have purchased the email security service, manage email security by logging on to https://login.mcafee-sms.com. From there you can select a customer, update their email policy, and review their quarantined messages.

Setting up your partner account profile Use your partner account profile to designate the name of your company and whether your customer accounts are self-managed or partner-managed.

To update your partner account profile: 1 Click the My Account tab.

2 Type your company name.

3 Specify whether McAfee should send security-related email directly to your partner-managed customers.

When this option is not selected, McAfee sends security-related email to you.

4 Click Save.

Note

See the Product Guide for additional recommendations for managing virus and spyware protection and managing firewall protection.

Note

This option applies to security-related email for all your customer accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Does it matter what email address is used when installing Total Protection on a customer’s computers? Yes. The email address identifies client computers on your online security reports. An email address provides a link to the principal contact for that computer at the customer site. However, you can enter any description or leave the field blank.

How do I configure Total Protection for my customers? Install Total Protection on the customer’s Microsoft servers, desktop computers, and laptops. The protection services are preconfigured to use the McAfee Default policy, with settings that provide a high level of security. You can also create a new policy with custom settings by visiting the customer’s SecurityCenter website.

The virus and spyware protection service features a preconfigured on-access scanner and an on-demand scanner available for scheduled scans. Total Protection automatically updates and upgrades itself each time the system is rebooted and at regular intervals. It uploads status and detection data to the customer’s SecurityCenter, where you can retrieve security reports on virus, spyware, and firewall protection for each client computer and server.

3

How can I view customer security reports? Select the customer’s company name in the Partner SecurityDashboard to open the customer’s SecurityCenter, then click the Reports tab to display links to the available reports. Reports are easy to read, providing summary and detailed information to help pinpoint risk concerns. You can also print reports; save them locally in Microsoft Word, Excel, or Notepad (comma-separated text) format; or send them to your customer in email.

Can I view account subscriptions per customer? Yes. Using the SecurityCenter, you can access each customer’s order based on profile, grant number, and account-licensing terms. You can track all orders for upcoming renewals or account maintenance.

Can security reports be co-branded? Yes. You can customize reports to better market to SMB customers. Select the customer’s company name in the Partner SecurityDashboard to open the customer’s SecurityCenter, click the My Account tab, and upload your logo to customize the appearance of the reports (see the SecurityCenter’s online help or Product Guide for instructions). The logo appears on all reports you send to your customer.

How frequently do I need to review security reports for my customers? As a partner, you provide value to your customers by monitoring and managing security for their sites. In the PSS customer agreement, daily monitoring ensures that the value-added service is provided to customers routinely. It is your responsibility to monitor security at an appropriate frequency in accordance with the guidelines you have agreed to with your customers.

What information can the reports provide to help me sell more products? Using security reports to identify security risks, you might recommend additional protection services or products such as operating system patch deployment, firewall configuration changes to reduce risk, hardware improvements, or procedural changes.

How do I create groups of client computers for my customers? Select the customer’s company name in the Partner SecurityDashboard to open the customer’s SecurityCenter, then click the Groups + Policies tab to access options for creating groups of client computers that use the same policy (security settings). You can create groups, move client computers into groups, and assign a policy to groups with point-and-click ease. See the SecurityCenter’s online help or Product Guide for instructions.

Can I use the Partner SecurityDashboard to monitor email security for my Total Protection Advanced customers? No. However, you can manage email security for your customers by logging on to https://login.mcafee-sms.com. From there you can select a customer, update their email policy, and review their quarantined messages.

What if I have misplaced my user name and password for accessing the Partner SecurityDashboard? Contact your support representative for assistance.

What if customers have bought services from multiple vendors? If a customer has purchased some licenses from another vendor, the Partner SecurityDashboard displays the total number of subscriptions and licenses allocated to that customer. For example, if the customer purchased 10 licenses from you and 10 licenses from another vendor, you will see a total of 20 licenses listed for that customer.

However, you will not see links to renew or purchase additional licenses if the customer’s most recent licenses were purchased from another vendor.

Why don’t I see new customer subscriptions listed in the Partner SecurityDashboard? Customer subscription information is updated at regular intervals, and might take up to an hour for to appear in the Partner SecurityDashboard.
