Total Petrochemicals’ vital business need was to guarantee the reliability of their IT systems, prevent outages, and ensure the efficient and smooth running of global operations. “Our primary objective was to ensure stability and to eliminate human errors at the technical level,” adds Mr. Fraselle.

Solution: A Complete Automation Solution Guaranteeing 24/7 PerformanceORSYP’s solution Dollar Universe was selected because it provided Total Petrochemicals with a platform to deliver fully integrated, end-to-end automation, regardless of business unit operation, application or specific environment. Guy Fraselle confirms, “We opted for one single standard workload automation solution to automate all job types in the organization.”

The solution’s lightweight, scalable, and highly resilient architecture provided administrators with complete centralization, a desirable feature considering Total’s worldwide business organization. This was done due to the fact that Dollar Universe assigned a unique source code to each and every job, and consolidated them into a single central platform. From there, jobs were redistributed differentially (across platforms and systems) to the various local environments worldwide.

To further centralize the extensive automation scope, Dollar Universe provided a central directory that meticulously described which reaction to launch in case of incidents. This ensured a responsive and agile IT environment where operators could intervene effectively and homogenously to guarantee IT efficiency 24/7, whether located in Singapore, Brussels, or Houston, Texas.

Adding Value with Scalable Architecture as Total Petrochemicals Extends and Enhances its ITDollar Universe was originally integrated on Total Petrochemicals’ UNIX infrastructure to guarantee the reliability of their SAP systems for finance purposes and equipment management. Jobs scheduled by Dollar Universe were mainly technical ‘housekeeping’ jobs such as backups, file system cleanups, purges, and statistic calculations.

Thanks to a successful initial implementation on a substantial number of servers and Dollar Universe’s proven and trustworthy ability to eliminate outages, Total Petrochemicals quickly decided to extend the deployment of workload automation without adding operational workload. Over the last 4 years, the number of runs per month increased by 100%. Today, ORSYP’s Dollar Universe ensures optimal system reliability on more than 400 servers and automates more than a million runs per month with very few maintenance requirements.

In addition, ORSYP consultants are able to free up valuable IT manpower by connecting Dollar Universe to Total Petrochemicals’ in-house alert system. Thanks to integrated e-mail alerts and SMS notifications, operators can proactively and consistently manage their systems without being tied to consoles and consequently, achieve greater ROI from higher value projects.

ORSYP’s Dollar Universe has become an integral part of Total Petrochemicals’ IT operations management, as the workload automation solution seamlessly addresses their highly automated, global business requirements.
