    1. Introduce oneselfHello! My name's Phm Th Song. I'm 32 years old. I was born and growing up in Son

La so I loved this place very much. I'm working as a teacher of physics in Tay BacUniversity. I'm taking this English course because Its necessary for my further study, atPh. D degree. My English's still so bad, so I hope I'll have the chance and try my best to

improve it.My hobbies are reading, having chats to everyone, try new mobile phonetechnology. My favourite sport is football, I dont have much time to play it, but I canwatch football match on my TV. Like many other Vietnamese, I love drinking tea somuch, so I often enjoy it after dinner or when I am watching TV. People often say thatI'm a friendly person, I think it's really that. I love to make friends with everybody, who're kind also easy-going. You can contact me to make friend if you like, I'll be gladto be going on for that, too.

I also have a happy family with my capable (m ang) wife and two nice andintelligent sons. My house is so small and simple, but there is much laughter in it

because in that place, there are my love, my future and my hope.

    2. Relationship with people around: What are the qualities of a good neighbor?I am lucky to live in a friendly group. My neighbors are polite, helpful and

responsible persons, they are good neighbors.A good neighbor is a polite neighbor. When you meet her, for example, she will

say hello to you with a smile. When you walk after her, she will hold the door for you. When your kids wave to her, she will begin a small friendly talk with the kids. Politeneighbors give you a good mood in your every days life.

A good neighbor is a helpful neighbor. When you take heavy things, he will giveyou a hand. When your motorbike is in repair, he will give you a ride. Helpful neighborshelp you tosolve (gii quyt) some problems in your life.

A good neighbor is a responsible (c trch nhim) neighbor. She will not listen tothe loudly music in the midnight, She will call police when she sees something strangein the neighborhood. She will actively involve (tham gia nhit tnh) in theneighborhoods work.

All in all, politeness, helpfulness and responsibility are the essential characters agood neighbor must possess (c). People who want to have good neighbors should begood neighbor first.

    3. My daily lifeIn my opinion, life is an interesting adventure. I enjoy every second of my life and

enjoy things around me: family, work, friends, neighbors or the leisure of free time...My day begins at 7.00 a.m. I get up with a hot cup of tea. After doing some

personal hygiene (v sinh c nhn), I have my breakfast at 7.30 a.m. I also watch theearly news at this time. I never miss ( l) the sport news. After breakfast, I reachuniversity where I work as a teacher. My classes begin at 8.00 and finish at 11.00. Of

course, during the lunch break, I go home and have lunch there because my home is notvery far from the university.

The afternoon classes restart at 1.00 p.m and continue till 5.00 p.m. After thework, I am back to my home because I have to help my wife with housework. She is so

busy with two sons, so she needs my help. I have many friends, so sometimes, I am in acoffee shop and chat with some friends after work and get home only after 7.00.

We usually have dinner at 7.00 p.m. During dinner time, I watch News programon TV. After playing with my sons, I spend time for studying more myself. This studytakes quite much my time, about 3 or 4 hours every evening. I often spend time for myleisure after 12 p.m: I like reading books, chat online with some friends or relatives, trysome new software on my Iphone or searching some useful things on Google

I go to bed quite early, its about 1 or 2 a.m next day.

    4. Free timeAs I am now preparing for an important examination (k thi quan trng) to get an

English certificate (chng ch) which I need for my further study. I spend most of my

time practicing my English in 4 skills. There are, however, a few other things that Isometimes do during my leisure.

As soon as I reach home (v ti nh) everyday after work, I have my lunchquickly then have a short rest in order to have much time possible to practice English inthe afternoon. Eating quickly is not good for my health but I have to pass myexamination. Therefore, the more I practice the more certain (chc chn) I can pass myexamination. It is for this reason that I practice for about 2 hours after lunch everyday.

After studying in the afternoon, I have my bath and then a cup of tea. Then, I gofor a walk with my wife and son and I try to talk to them in English to practice speaking

skill. My wife is very good at English because she is a teacher of English and sheexplains (gii thch) many of grammar or words that I dont understand clearly.Sometimes, I also spend time to tidy (dn dp) my house, its really happy when I

can see my sons play on a clean floor. At night, I study my English lessons again and Ialso spend time to read book or search some useful software to setup in my mobile

phone. I go to bed quite late. So, my time after work is spent in many ways.

    5. My family:As many other Vietnamese, family is a very important part in my life. Family can

share my sorrow and plus my joy (chia s ni bun v nhn ln nim vui). I live, I work,

I try my best because of my familys future and my life has meaning because I have afamily.

My small family has 4 members: My wife, 2 little sons and I. My wife is 31, sheis a teacher of English, she is very busy because after work at her college, she has to dohousework.

My older son is 8 years old, he is a pupil. He is good at both Vietnamese andmath. He can speak English quite fluently. He dont know very many English words, but

he can pronoun them correctly (pht m chnh xc). He wishes he can study in Japanwhen he gets older.

My little son is only 5 months old. He is so small and he cant speak, stand, walk. However, he can talk to other with his smile and his eyes. He is so cute that Imiss him every time.

I spend quite much time for my family time everyday. When I am at home, I play

with my sons in the afternoon, we often walk round, play badminton or ride bike. In theevening, I teach the older son math and my wife teaches him English. My family is like a part of my body, it is very important and close, too.

    6. Weather in Son La

Son La has a tropical monsoon climate (kh hu nhit i gi ma), which ischaracterized by heavy rains in the summer and cold and dry in winter. Like many

provinces in Vietnam, Son La alsosuffers from the influence(chu nh hng) of the dryand hot wind from Laos in summer which makes the weather uncomfortable sometimes.

Son Las climate is divided into two distinct seasons. Winter lasts from October toMarch of the next year, and summer from April to September.

The annual average temperature (nhit trung bnh hang nm) is 21.4oC (thehighest temperature is 27oC and the lowest one is 16oC). The weather in different areasare not the same. It is hot in some districts: Yen Chau, Muong La, Phu Yen, Quynh

Nhai, Song Ma while its cool in others: Moc Chau, Bac Yen, Thuan Chau, Sop Cop,Mai Son and Son La town.

The temperature in Moc Chau is usually so low that you can feel as you are inEurope and you dont need to have an air conditional in summer. That is the reasonwhy women in Son La are so beautiful.

    7. EducationNowadays, we have many choices to study. You can study at home by using

computers and television or come to class and study in a traditional class. In my opinion,I think the traditional classes are better.

I don't think that technology can replace (thay th) teachers and classrooms. After

all, technology can fail. Computers go down and computer programs are in errors.Televisions break, and the electricity can suddenly go off. In those situations, who'sgoing to give lesson (ging bi)?

If I'm at school, when the television or the computers stop working, there's ateacher to step the lesson plan. Teachers have their teaching experience (giu kinhnghim) and be creative (sng to). Computers and televisions can't. I think learning to

play and work with other people is one of the most important lessons. It prepares us forlife, and for working with other people. Being with other people also helps us discoverwho I am. In classroom, I have to focus on the lessons (ch bi hc), but at home, I

may turn off the computer or the television and go do something else. I might tell myselfthat it's OK to play a computer game now and study later.

Of course, I like using technology in the classroom. I think computers andtelevision are great ways for students to have access (truy cp) to a lot of information.Computers, internet or TV should be tools of teaching and studying.8. Places: Moc Chau

Go along the National Highway No.6, you will reach Moc Chau plateau, which isjust 200 km to the northwest of Hanoi. The fresh, cool air in Moc Chau is an important factor which attracts tourists. The

town is cool in summer, brisk (mt m, trong lnh) in autumn, cold in the winter, andwarm in spring. Visiting Moc Chau in spring, you will be impressed (n tng) by the

plum and peach blossoms (Hoa mn hoa o) which cover the entire (ton) area and insummer, there are many ripe plums and peaches (mn, o chn).

Its also great fun to walk across the mossy rocks (i b trn nhng hn yru) ofDai Yem Waterfall (Thc Di Ym), explore Bat Cave (hang Di) or simplydrink in the cool early morning air (ung khng kh trong lnh bui sm)

In wedding season (ma ci), many couples (cp) travel to Moc Chau to takewedding photos while others simply come to relax (ngh ngi) and enjoy some of thefamous local food.

Moc Chau is also well-known for some products from milk, such as: fresh milk, milk cakes and yoghurt

    9. Languages:From my point of view, Vietnamese is the most beautiful, wonderful and

brightest language. Its my mother language. It helps me talk to my relatives, read

favourite books, listen to nice songs, and study many things at school. I am very proudof it and I speak it everywhere in Vietnam. However, I still like studying English. So,why should we learn English?

The answer is quite simple for me! I think it is an useful tool to communicate withfriends all over the world, and nowadays, as we all know, with the rapid development ofthe advanced technology, we cant guess what our future will be like in several years, sowe have to learn different languages to open our thinking and vision.

Moreover, we have to be under huge pressure (p lc ln) if we are still in thesmall circle or a path, we would never know how much distance between our owncountry and the rich countries, like America, Britain. We are learning English, not only

for thejob requirement (yu cu ca cng vic), for communicating with people over theworld; but also we learn for our own country, our own society, and our own motherland. We study English, but we dont forget my mother tongue one day. There is muchknowledge which is in books, websites, is in English, so if we want to receive it wehave to be good at English.

So, we think that learning English is surely important for everyone.

Where does our food come from?

Nowadays, it is possible to transport (vn chuyn) food easily from one part of theworld to the other. We can eat what we like, when we like, at time of the year.
