In our study of the ancient civilizations of Latin America, SWBAT evaluate how each civilization was impacted by and adapted to its geography and the achievements of each civilization by examining visuals, gathering details from media and reading selections to draw conclusions in a chart, completing topic stop activities, categorizing items and by triangulating various documents to form and support a position. (NCSCOS 3.01, 8.03)

The Aztec Empire is part of Mexico today.
According to Aztec legend, the gods told the nomadic people who had entered the Valley of Mexico to search for an eagle perched on the top of a cactus.
The eagle would be holding a snake in its beak.
When they saw the sign on a swampy island in Lake Texcoco they established the city of Tenochtitlan

The Incas invented terrace gardening. They carved steps of flat land up the side of the mountain to create flat land for farming. The terraces also helped to keep rainwater from running off. They reduced erosion. The government built raised aqueducts to carry water to farmlands for irrigation.
