Learning Area : Decimal Numbers

Learning Objectives : Pupils will be taught to :-1.Understand and use the vocabulary related to decimals.

Learning Outcomes : Pupils will be able to :-ii) Recognise the place value of thousandths.

Activities : 1) Set Induction - Represent place value chart

Tens Ones Tenths Hundredths Thousandths 3 4 5 6 7

- The place value chart showing 34.567

In 34.567; 5 represent tenths , 6 represent hundredths ,7 represent thousandths 4 represent ones and 3 represent tens

* Before decimal, place value is ones, tens and so on. After decimal, place value is tenths

2) Write the place value and digit values e.g : 34.567 - Digit value = 0.007 23.8 - Digit value = 3

- Place value = thousandths -Digit place = ones 5.47 - Digit value = 0.07 52.01 - Digit value = 50

- Place value = hundredths - Place value = tens 5.23 - Digit value = 0.2
