Begin with the end in Mind To begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where youre going so that you better understand where you are now so that the steps you take are always in the right direction. -Stephen R. You will define key elements of the Ministerial Order of Learning with an emphasis on the ten cross-curricular competencies, the 3Es & literacy/numeracy 2. You will be introduced to different planning models in order to help plan with a competency focused approach to learning 3. You will use a planning template to design (or re-design) a learning experience that integrates the ten cross-curricular competencies, along with elements of UBD, PBL and DI 4. Imagine if Bad News: Due to years of ignoring the warnings of impending catastrophe due to global warming, the Earth is predicted to collapse in the next 100 years with a series of extreme weather in the form of blizzards, hurricanes, drought, floods, and destructive tornadoes. Good News: You have been selected to join a blended team of scientists, geologists, philosophers, medical personnel, and yes, even politicians to venture to a new Earth-like planet to set up our first interplanetary colony. We will have approximately 10,000 people including families and children. The Challenge: Because of your expertise in teaching and curriculum, you have been chosen to be part of our education team to design a new curriculum that will be used for teaching the school- aged children of our colonists, as well as all of the future students Design a curriculum that outlines what skills, knowledge and attitudes these children will need to survive and thrive on this New Earth. Use chart paper to record your answers and try to Include at least ten main points. Good luck citizens you have ten minutes to accomplish your mission. Our future is in your hands. 14.
