EditorialWhen zero is the goal

At the recent launch of the National Workplace

Safety and Health (WSH) Campaign 2015,

Guest-of-Honour Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, then-Minister

for Manpower and current Minister for Social and

Family Development, highlighted Keppel as an

example of a successful company that embraces

the value of WSH and commended our steadfast

commitment towards achieving zero injuries in the

workplace (see page 12).

At the same event, WSH Council unveiled its

Vision Zero movement, which aims to develop the

mind-set that all workplace injuries and health

issues are preventable.

Vision Zero strikes a chord at Keppel because

its objectives dovetail with our own vision: that

everyone who works in our yards, plants, worksites

and offices across the globe is able to return home

safely every day.

Keppel sees the safety and well-being of our

employees as critical to our long-term success.

In fact, it is an integral part of Keppel’s Vision

2020, the Group’s holistic development roadmap

towards the year 2020. At the inaugural Global

Keppelites Forum in January 2015, CEO of Keppel

Corporation Mr Loh Chin Hua described the

Group’s Vision 2020 as “one that all employees

will be proud of and feel a sense of ownership

in, leading to a safer, more productive work

environment for all”.

Vision 2020 galvanises us to continue on the

right path. In 2014, Keppel invested $52 million

in enhancing safety infrastructure, systems,

knowledge and skillsets across the Group, an

increase of 30% from the year before. Over 60,000

personnel have received training at Keppel Safety

Training Centres and Safety Awareness Centres

since 2010. The Group was also conferred 39 WSH

Awards by the WSH Council in 2014, surpassing

the 32 awards received previously.

Even as a Group with diverse businesses,

Keppel continues to work at improving safety

standards and practices with several initiatives

amongst its management, staff, contractors and

subcontractors.

The Keppel Group Safety Convention held

annually since 2007 is an important platform for

reflecting on lessons learnt and improvements for

us to progress on our safety journey. Improved

attitudes toward WSH are only meaningful if they

translate to practical action on the ground. This is

why our convention includes the recognition of

Safety Innovation Projects, practical solutions to

safety challenges developed and implemented by

Keppelites, often together with other stakeholders.

While we recognise that we face many challenges

on our safety journey as a Group, we are driven by

the conviction that with focus and tenacity, we can

achieve our vision of “zero accidents, zero losses”.

Keppel DC REIT included in MSCI IndexKeppel DC REIT was added to the MSCI Singapore Small Cap Index with effect from 29 May 2015 after close of market.

MSCI conducts reviews of the constituents of the Index on a semi-annual basis, and qualifying companies need to have a minimum listing period. The addition

of Keppel DC REIT to the Index is no small feat given that the REIT only started trading on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) on 12 December 2014.

Since its debut on SGX, Keppel DC REIT, the first data centre real estate investment trust to be listed in Asia, has been trading at a healthy

premium to its offer price of $0.93 per unit.

The MSCI Singapore Small Cap Index was launched on 1 January 2001 and is designed to measure the performance of the small cap segment of the Singapore stock market. MSCI is a leading provider of research-based, miss ion cr i t ica l

Singapore’s largest infrastructure-focused trust commences tradingKeppel Infrastructure Trust (KIT) commenced trading on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) on 18 May 2015 as the enlarged Trust. This follows the completion of the acquisition of Senoko Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Plant, Keppel Seghers Tuas WTE Plant and Keppel Seghers NEWater Plant.

With the injection of these three assets into its portfolio, the enlarged KIT is the largest Singapore infrastructure-focused business trust listed on the SGX.

KIT will also undertake its approved acquisition of Keppel Merlimau Cogen Plant (KMC), a top-tier 1,300 MW gas-fired power plant in Singapore. After the KMC acquisition, which is expected to be completed by 3Q 2015, KIT will have an expected total asset size of over $4 billion.

Mr Khor Un-Hun, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure Fund Management, the Trustee-Manager of KIT, said, “With an enlarged and diversified portfolio, Keppel Infrastructure

Trust’s ability to offer investors long-term, predictable and sustainable returns is enhanced. Furthermore, with the transactions, the Trust has grown significantly in scale and size, which will strengthen its ability to pursue more meaningful growth opportunities.”

To f i n a n c e t h e K M C a c q u i s i t i o n , K I T h a s successfully raised $525 million through a private placement and preferential offering. The equity deal is the largest to date in

Singapore this year and represents about 36% of KIT’s outstanding units before the equity fund raising exercise. The private placement attracted strong institutional interest from new and existing investors, and was more than two times subscribed.

“We are deeply encouraged by the strong investor interest in our equity fund raising. The increase in free float and institutional unitholder base will help KIT enhance the liquidity of its units and its ability to raise additional capital to finance future growth opportunities,” said Mr Khor. keppelite

Celebrating the world’s largest sheerlegsAsian Lift, a joint venture between Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) and Smit Singapore, a member of the Boskalis Group of Companies, celebrated the naming of Asian Hercules III, which is the largest and most versatile heavy-lift sheerlegs of its kind in the world, on 15 May 2015.

The self-propelled floating sheerlegs can perform single lifts of up to 5,000 tonnes and carry out tandem lifts exceeding 5,000 tonnes with multiple cranes.

Asian Hercules III increases Asian Lift’s fleet size to a total of five sheerlegs, which include the 400-tonne Asian Helping Hand lll, the 1,600-tonne Asian Hercules and the 3,200-tonne Asian Hercules II.

The sheerlegs were built by Keppel Nantong Shipyard, Keppel O&M’s yard in Nantong, China, which delivered the crane with a perfect safety record of no lost-time incidents.

Mr Chow Yew Yuen, CEO of Keppel O&M and Chairman of Asian Lift, said, “Asian Hercules III is a reflection of how As ian L i f t has grown from strength to strength since Keppel and

Smit forged a strategic partnership to form the jo int venture 30 years ago. Today, Asian Lift is known for its unparalleled l i f t ing capabi l i t ies. We are confident that Asian Hercules I I I will help to b r o a d e n A s i a n L i f t ’s coverage and opportunities beyond i t s t rad i t iona l m a r k e t s t o i n c l u d e offshore installations and decommissioning work, and to also further its reach into international markets.

“Keppel O&M will benefit from Asian Lift’s expanded capabilities as the company continues to contribute to our quality execution of projects ranging from the construction of high-specification rigs to ship conversions and specialised shipbuilding.”

Measuring 106m long and 52m wide with a hook height of at least 120m, Asian Hercules III took on its first assignment in Singapore upon delivery earlier this year.

Together with Asian Hercules II, Asian Hercules III carried out a tandem lift for the 5,300-tonne upper hull o f an accommodat ion semisubmersible that Keppel FELS is constructing. keppelite

Handing over Runcorn Phase 2Keppel Seghers Belgium N.V. and Keppel Seghers UK Limited (collectively, Keppel Seghers) have handed over Phase 2 of the Runcorn Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility in the UK to the client Viridor EfW (Runcorn) Limited.

The Runcorn EfW facility comprises two phases of equal capacity. Phase 1 is owned by INEOS Runcorn (TPS) Limited (TPSCo), a joint venture between INEOS, Viridor and John Laing. Phase 2 is owned by Viridor EfW (Runcorn) Limited,

a special purpose vehicle owned by Viridor Waste Management Limited.

Keppel Seghers handed over Phase 2 to the client on 2 4 A p r i l 2 0 1 5 a f t e r successfully completing a 30-day reliability test. Earlier this year on 18 January 2015, Phase 1 was completed and handed over. Both phases are operated by Viridor.

The combined first and second phases are able to process up to 850,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) per annum.

Both phases convert refuse into renewable energy comprising approximately 80 MW of e l e c t r i c i t y and 52 MW of thermal energy in the form of steam. The plant supplies the neighbouring INEOS chemicals manufacturing facility with green energy, reducing the facility’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Mr Tan Boon Leng, ED ( Wa s t e - t o - E n e r g y ) o f Keppel Infrastructure, the parent company of Keppel Seghers, said, “We are happy to see the realisation of

this landmark project as it cements Keppel Seghers’ position in the market and confirms the company’s ability to deliver one of the most energy-efficient and world-class EfW facilities.”

Mr Phil Piddington, Chief Operating Officer of Viridor’s Energy Division, added, “We are pleased to have now taken over as the sole operator of this flagship North West energy recovery facility. I would like to thank our contractors, technology partners and our direct employees in Runcorn, who have all worked hard to get to this point.”

Servicing the North West region, the Runcorn EfW facility will provide a waste solution for businesses and local authorities. It will help to achieve the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority’s target of 75% landfill diversion.

The EfW facility features Keppel Seghers’ proprietary technologies, including water-cooled multi-stage grates, boiler, and a double dry f lue gas treatment system that treats emissions to the highest standards, ensuring full compliance with EU and local air quality requirements. keppelite

Saving through solarKeppel seeks to build and operate sustainable buildings with eco-friendly features to maximise the environmental performance of its properties.

To that end, Keppel REIT has retrofitted the rooftop of Bugis Junction Towers with solar panels to harness solar energy. Including the solar panels atop Bugis Junction shopping mall, the entire solar panel installation covers more than 1,000 sm, making this one of the largest installations for an integrated

mixed-use development in Singapore.

This installation is estimated to generate 200,000 kWh of clean energy for the development, as well as mitigate 110 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. This is sufficient to power approximately 50 four- room Hous ing and Development Board households per year. The development is expected t o e n j o y s a v i n g s o f approximately $30,000

per annum for the next 25 years.

Mr Toh Wah San, Executive Vice President of Asset Management, Keppel REIT, said, “Recognising that sustainability makes good business sense, we constantly seek sustainable solutions that will reap benefits for all our stakeholders. This latest collaboration with REC to install solar panels at Bugis Junction is one such example.” keppelite

Spurring Innovations

For instance, the LNG vent and piping are arranged so that the accommodation quarters in the lower deck area are situated away from the potential danger zone.

The LNG fuel is carried in containerised, type-C ISO-certified tanks on the main deck, and refuelling can be as simple as replacing the empty tanks with replenished ones.

In 2013, KOMtech was conferred the Outstanding M a r i t i m e R & D a n d Technology Award for its contributions to the development of feasible solutions in deepwater drilling and production. keppelite

Innovative LNG tug designFor its achievements in deve lop ing innovat i ve solutions for the marine sector, Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre (KOMtech) was recognised at the biennial Singapore Internat ional Mar i t ime Awards ( IMA) held on 21 April 2015. The awards was held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week organised by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

T h e r e s e a r c h a n d development (R&D) arm of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) received the Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award for its design of an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tug with a 65-tonne bollard pull

capacity which can run on both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and diesel fuel.

The development of the dual-fuel engine tug design comes at a t ime when natural gas is r is ing in importance as an energy resource and alternative marine fuel. KOMtech’s focus on LNG solutions is in line with MPA’s objective of establishing Singapore as an LNG bunkering port by 2020.

While a number of companies have been developing LNG fuel gas systems (LFGS) for ships, most designs face technical challenges with more improvements needed to achieve a higher level of safety and fuel efficiency.

In 2012, faced with these challenges, KOMtech started to develop an LFGS with a robust LNG vaporiser for marine applications. The fruit of its R&D efforts – an innovative and patented LNG vaporiser design which was incorporated into the tug design – successfully brings together all the advantages of existing LNG vaporisers in the market.

Compared to other LNG vapor i se r s , KOMtech’s system has the additional advantages of having lower capital expenditure and operating costs, and is more compact and safe.

KOMtech also incorporated smart designs into its tug to enhance safety and comfort.

Keeping the blaze at KRC

One is an avid hiker; the other a keen gardener. While their preferred recreational activities may differ, both Mr Hoe Eng Hock and Mr Lim Tow Fok share an appreciation for nature and a belief in the power of recreational activities to bring people together outside of the workplace.

Having devoted considerable energy to doing just that as President of Keppelite Recreation Club for the past five years, Mr Hoe, MD (Special Projects), Marine Division, Keppel Offshore & Marine, has handed over

the reins to the capable hands of Mr Lim, GM of Property Management and Knowledge Management at Keppel Land.

Officially elected President at the KRC Annual General Meeting on 24 April 2015, Mr Lim will keep the KRC torch blazing, driving KRC forward as a dynamic platform for Keppelites across business units to forge strong bonds.

Keppelites take the SEa Games stageWhile many people find it challenging to fit regular exercise into their schedules, Zoe Seet, Graduate Engineer, Piping (Production), Keppel FELS, and Leow Ting Hao, Assistant Superintendent, Keppel FELS, work out six times a week, with each session last ing at least three hours.

Such intense training is part of both Keppelites’ preparation to represent Singapore at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Singapore from 5 to 16 June 2015. Juggling full-time jobs and grueling training sessions has certainly been a tall order but they are fuelled by their

sporting passion and desire to do Singapore proud.

Zoe, who is representing Singapore in volleyball, shared, “Training can be demanding but I guess it all boils down to prioritising my time. It helps that my bosses and family members have been very supportive.”

Away from the international stage, the bubbly 25-year-old, who has been playing volleyball for almost 20 years, is active in the annual Keppel Games, representing Team Caspian in long-distance running, dragon boat, swimming and, of course, volleyball.

Ting Hao has been practising archery for 19 years and is representing Singapore as the captain of the archery team in the SEA Games. Sharing how the Robin Hood movie inspired him, Ting Hao said, “I was fascinated by how Robin Hood saved his entire village with his bow and that inspired me to take up archery.”

The 30-year-old is further motivated to pay tribute to Singapore’s founding fathers by doing his best for the country. “This SEA Games is extra significant because it is on our home turf during our jubilee year. My hope is for Team Singapore to compete

with passion and dedication so that we can be victorious in the SEA Games and do our founding fathers proud.”

Two other Keppelites who will be at the SEA Games are Heng Yang Ling, Graduate Engineer, Keppel FELS, and Yeo Teck Chye, Assistant M a r k e t i n g M a n a g e r, Keppel FELS, who will be involved in the Table Tennis and Taekwondo games as Technical officials. Beach outings are a common fixture in Khon-Whey’s schedule, during which he enjoys quality time with his family

F o r Ta y K h o n - W h e y, M a r k e t i n g M a n a g e r, Keppel AmFELS, oil rigs and ships have always been a familiar sight, even from a young age. After all, the 37-year-old had opportunities to visit Keppel’s yards in Singapore and Brazil throughout his growing years.

Coming from a family of offshore and marine men, mak ing excu r s ions to shipyards was a regular part of Khon-Whey’s childhood. Indeed, Khon-Whey’s great grandfather, granduncle and father all had long careers at shipyards.

His great grandfather, Koh Peng Yam, was the first local electrical foreman in the Dockyard Department of the Singapore Habour Board, subsequently re-named PSA Singapore, and he even received the British Empire Medal in 1958 for his long and illustrious career with the Board.

Down the fami ly l ine, Khon-Whey’s father, Mr Tay Kim Hock, started as a Management Trainee in Keppel Shipyard in November 1972 before rising through the ranks to eventually helm Keppel FELS Brasil as CEO

Fourth-generation Keppelite from June 2000 to October 2007. Mr Tay subsequently retired from Keppel in April 2009.

Perhaps it was his early exposure to the offshore and marine industry that eventually influenced Khon-Whey’s career choice later on in life. Recounting his trips to the yard as a teenager, Khon-Whey mused, “When I visited our yard in Brazil back then, I was impressed by its sheer size and how massive its projects were. Till today, I am amazed by how we transformed BrasFELS to the bustling yard that it is now.”

Upon his graduation in 2004, Khon-Whey joined Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) USA as a Project Analyst where he played a part in reviewing projects to ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget and with a perfect safety record. After his eight-year service with Keppel O&M USA and a one-year stint in BrasFELS as a Project Controller in 2009, Khon-Whey relocated from Houston to Brownsville where he took on the role of a Marketing Manager in Keppel AmFELS.

The shift meant that Khon-Whey’s family, including

his children, aged four and two, had to uproot as well. Khon-Whey shared, “Having your family close to you is important as they provide an immense source of strength. Even though Brownsville is in the same state as Houston, it is not sustainable to drive four to five hours per trip to see my family.”

A d a p t i n g t o a n e w community and culture was not a huge challenge for the sprightly young man, who shared further, “I think it all boils down to taking

on new opportunities and challenges with the right mindset. Houston is the largest city in Southern United States and the most populous city in Texas. It is a more bustling city compared to Brownsville, with more amen i t i e s ca te r ing to tourism. However, both cities are appealing in their own ways. I have been pleasantly surprised by what Brownsville has to offer. The city has its rustic charms, wide open spaces and many festivals that celebrate the rich Hispanic culture.” keppelite

FLNGV Gimi secures charterT h e s e c o n d F l o a t i n g Liquefaction Vessel (FLNGV) conversion project, which Keppel Shipyard will be undertaking for Golar LNG Limited (Golar), has secured a 20-year charter contract for operations in Block R, Equatorial Guinea, starting from the first half of 2019.

On 5 May 2015, Golar, which awarded the conversion contract to Keppel Shipyard, announced that i t had signed a binding Heads of Terms with Ophir Energy Plc (Ophir) and GEPetrol, for the provision of the FLNGV, the Gimi. Gimi is the second Moss Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier which Golar has entrusted Keppel Shipyard to convert into an FLNGV.

The Heads of Terms was f o r m a l l y r a t i f i e d t h e following week by GEPetrol, Golar’s partner in Block R in Equatorial Guinea.

The agreement is being structured as a 20-year tolling contract, and establishes the key commercial terms for Golar to build, operate and maintain the FLNGV and facilities at Ophir’s operated Fortuna floating LNG project in Block R.

The Heads of Terms between Golar and Ophir is a positive development reflecting the interest the market has in mid-sized FLNGV conversion solutions, which are faster and more cost effective than conventional liquefaction facilities.

Full construction activities of the Gimi will commence when Keppel Shipyard receives a notice to proceed.

At full capacity, the Gimi FLNGV will have a contracted capacity of 2.2 million tonnes of LNG per annum. Keppel Shipyard will provide the design, detailed engineering and procurement of the marine systems and al l of the conversion-related construction services for the vessel.

Keppel Shipyard has engaged Black & Veatch to provide design, procurement and commissioning support services for the topsides, as well as the liquefaction process utilising its established PRICO® technology.

The award of the conversion contract of the Gimi from Golar to Keppel Shipyard in end 2014 marked the exercise of the first of two options, which were part of an earlier firm contract awarded by Golar to Keppel Shipyard for the conversion of the first Moss LNG carrier, the Hilli, into an FLNGV. The Hilli is scheduled to commence commerc ia l operations in Cameroon during the first half of 2017.

Following the signing of this Heads of Terms with Ophir, Golar and Keppel Shipyard will commence discussions on the third FLNGV conversion project. keppelite
