Top five tips for painting stripes

My blank wall was calling for stripes, but I had always been afraid of painting imperfect lines. Through trial and error, I came up with my top five tips for painting stripes: 1. Determine the width of your stripes 2. Score your tape 3. Tape properly 4. Pull tape toward wet paint 5. Paint looks darker next to a lighter color

Step 1

To determine the width of your stripes, measure the wall from ceiling to floor. For skinny stripes, divide by nine. For medium stripes, divide by seven.

Use ScotchBlue™ Tape to tape off the stripes. A rule of thumb – an odd numbers of stripes is perfect. If you want to save taping, make both your top stripe and bottom stripe your base color.

ScotchBlue.™ See what you can do.

Step 2

While taping your stripes, be sure to mark stripes you aren’t going to paint. It may seem elementary, but when you are in the middle of painting, it’s easy to forget.

Step 3

Paint your stripes and pull the tape off right away. For the crispest, cleanest stripes, always pull tape when it’s still wet and pull it toward the painted stripe.

More saving. More doing.®
