The Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group is pleased to announce that its new nature and history trail guide, Sandbach Bridges Guide (South), is now complete! The guide can be downloaded free as a PDF, for printing or for use on a mobile device, at swwgblog1.blogspot.co.uk

The two mile Sandbach Bridges Trail (South) runs from near the Sandbach bypass roundabout (below Homebase), down the valley of Arclid Brook to the river bridge at Wheelock and incorporates the new Brook Wood trails. The Trail guide includes photographs, artwork by local artist Stella Stilwell and a purpose drawn map created by George Hill.

The Bridges Trail (North) guide is not available yet, as this trail, which will include a limited mobility section, is still being built. When complete, the two Bridges Trails will form a path linking all of Sandbach and Wheelock’s historic river bridges. They also link to the Sandbach Environment Trail, the Sandbach Heritage Trail, the Wheelock Rail Trail, the canal towpaths and other local footpaths. Walking of the Trail is at one’s own risk at all times. Enquiries about the trail may be made to [email protected]

Sandbach has again won at the Cheshire Community Pride Awards, scooping the Best Kept Small Market Town Award for the third year running. The achievement is the result of many voluntary community groups working together throughout the year as part of the Tidy Town initiative. Sandbach Station was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Best Community Initiative category and Dingle Lake received a ‘Little Gem’ Award. Congratulations to everyone involved.

The production of a Neighbourhood Development Plan for Sandbach (SNDP) commenced in July 2014, with two phases of public questionnaires and the analysis of their results taking the process through to May this year. The Policies Group of SNDP Working Group have worked tirelessly during the Summer to prepare the plan for submission and on 16th September Sandbach became the first town in Cheshire East to submit its proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan to the local authority.

Cheshire East Council (CEC) has instigated the plan’s final six weeks of public consultation, which ends on 2 November. After this date the Plan will be scrutinised by an independent “Examiner”, who will decide if it can be put to a public referendum, which will be organised by CEC early next year. People living in the neighbourhood who are registered to vote in local elections will be entitled to vote in the referendum. If more than 50% of people voting in the referendum support the plan then the local planning authority must bring it into force. The SNDP will be ‘made’, become part of the CEC Development Plan and given the appropriate weight in deciding planning applications. Decision

makers will be obliged to consider proposals for development in the neighbourhood against the neighbourhood plan.

Look out for the referendum details in February/March next year.

Celebrities will be in attendance at the Christmas Market this year when Rock & Roll drummer Manny Elias (Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell) and his wife actress Deborah Bouchard (Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Cold Feet) join in the fun. Instead of making music Manny has created a range of Chilli Condiments- fittingly branded Bongo’s. The opening bars of Bongo’s chilli business includes five varieties and a Chilli Lovers Gift Box.

Bongo’s is just one of an extensive food offering available at the Christmas Market on Friday 4th December. Other new products include stuffed breads, flavoured nuts, craft ales, fudge and truffles, whilst many old favourites, such as Katie’s Proper Pate and Tinakiiana petit fours, are returning to delight their regular customers.

Children’s toys, adult and kids clothing, paintings and artwork, candles, soaps, knitted goods, tableware, jewellery, glassware and cushions are amongst the wide variety of handmade crafts that will extend from the Cobbles, down the High Street, through the Indoor Market and onto the Little Common. Christmas shopping will be a delight with Brass Bands playing, School Choirs singing carols around the Christmas Tree and Santa settled in his Grotto.

Commencing at 3pm the Christmas Market will compliment the town centre’s independent and specialist shops, which will remain open until 7pm. There will be stalls selling hot food and drinks and all the town restaurants and cafés will be open until late. A lovely evening to gear up to the Christmas celebrations.

environmental projects

The Clean Team group of over 140 volunteers are busy all year round, helping to keep Sandbach tidy. But all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so on Saturday 12th December at a festive litter pick, we will be joined by the local “uniformed” youth groups such as scouts, guides and fire cadets. Everyone is encouraged to sport a Santa hat, and members (and friends) will be going for a well-deserved drink and mince pie after the litter pick. A highlight eagerly looked forward to by friends and supporters is the annual fund-raising quiz, to be held on Friday 26th February 2016 at the Masonic Hall – tickets will be on sale in the New Year.

For more information about the group, we can be contacted via Sandbach Partnership –email [email protected] or look on the website www.sandbach-cleanteam.co.uk

Sandbach Town Council have recently received £13,500 from Cheshire East Council for environmental projects in Sandbach. The funding has been split between four projects within the parish. Sandbach Woodlands and Wildlife Group will be given £5,000 to improve Woodland Trails. The group are currently working on a new trail at St. Mary’s Wood (in the dell between Waitrose roundabout and Lower High Street traffic lights), and will use the new funding to complete the “Sandbach Bridges Trail (North)” to Park House Meadows (by Congleton Road).

Sandbach Allotments Society has £500 allocated for a Community Orchard and Sandbach Partnership £3,000 for cycle racks.

The remaining £5,000 will be supplemented by Sandbach Town Council and used to install new town and village entry signs on the A-Roads

into and within Sandbach. The impressive new signage will be cast aluminium with lettering and logos in relief. The proposed town entry signs will feature the Crosses with white lettering on a black background. An additional plate promotes the link between Sandbach and Foden’s Brass Band.

The village entry signs will be black lettering on a white background with Sandbach’s coat of Arms in the arch.

Cllr. Mike Benson, leader of the Tidy Town Group, explained “We were very pleased to receive this funding from CEC, since the Town Council has received a number of requests for village signage to be erected, particularly for Ettiley Heath.

We welcome residents’ comments on the sign designs.” Comments on the proposed signage should be sent to [email protected]
