Activities to enhance your employabilityStudying in China will help you develop a range of skills and competencies that global employers look for. We offer everything you need to meet their expectations, including high-quality degrees, masterclasses and a range of extracurricular activities to showcase your achievements.
EXPANDING ECONOMYChina’s economy is growing rapidly – with new job
and investment opportunities being created every
year and new international companies setting up
and investing here on a monthly basis. The uplift
in the number of organisations opening in China in
recent years means there are valuable employment
opportunities for you to explore after you graduate.
The continued investment and expansion will also
provide plenty of scope for career development and
promotion in the future.
LANGUAGE SKILLSStudying abroad is the best way to pick up the
language very quickly. Within a couple of months
you will have learned the basics and if you work
hard, within a year you should be able to hold
a decent conversation in Mandarin, the mother
tongue of one fifth of the world’s population. It
is still rare to find non-Chinese people who can
communicate well and by developing your language
skills you will be elevated above other ‘wai guo ren’
(foreigners) conducting business in China.
22 Dongbei University of Finance and Economics 2016-2017
80%of INTO China graduates are working in their home country
Develop a strong and diverse ‘guanxi’.
23XXXX
BUSINESS SKILLSThe Chinese are well known for their tough
negotiation skills and agile business minds. If you
become familiar with Chinese business practice,
you will acquire the acumen to conduct negotiations
all over the world.
GUANXI (NETWORKING)It is possible to find work in China from abroad, but
job websites are not the usual way that Chinese
people look for work. If you are considering working
in China in the future, living in the country will
ensure you will build strong ‘guanxi’.
While you are a student in China, you will have
time to make new friends and get to know your
professors (many also have consultancy projects
or businesses). Building these friendships not only
creates a personal relationship, but also a potential
business relationship. If a suitable position comes
up, many Chinese people would rather give the
position to a friend of a friend they trust, rather
than to advertise.

MasterclassesAs one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, China offers new and exciting career opportunities for those with the skills and experience to succeed. 25XXXX
PUTTING THEORY INTO PRACTICEMasterclasses will take place during your China
experience. Professionals from the international
business community, including business
professionals, lawyers and diplomats, will be joined
by distinguished alumni from DUFE, giving a unique
insight into what it is like to work in China. Your
future networks will develop as you learn more
about working, living and doing business in China.
In 2013 and 2014, a wide range of international
and Chinese companies, covering subjects ranging
from diplomacy and education, to civil rights,
finance and hospitality, delivered masterclasses.
Previous speakers have included:
• Alan Babbington-Smith from LMI International on ‘Growing a franchise in China’
• Anthony Ross from Opposite House Hotel on ‘The growth and development of the international hospitality business in China’
• Samantha Northey from AB Agriculture on ‘Life and work in China’
• Alex Chan (Private consultant specialising in China’s telecommunications industry).

INTERNATIONAL CLASSMATESEvery semester I have some new classmates. I think over 50 countries are represented including USA, Thailand, Senegal and France. It’s really cool because you don’t need to go to other countries to learn about new cultures.
“I decided to study International Business Management because I had an interest in business at high school and because I recognised China is booming and growing.”

WORK EXPERIENCEI have a part-time job where I help develop a website for international people in Dalian. We look at what people need when they move here and try to offer the best information. My manager is from China and sometimes we chat in Chinese which is a good way for me to practise the language.
NOT ONLY THEORYWe learn about real work situations and discuss lots of case studies rather than just learn theories from books. I really like the Marketing module where my lecturers are from the UK and USA.
STUDENT COMPETITIONI helped organise a competition for international students where they had to present a business idea, make a marketing video and solve some case studies. The University and INTO supported it and helped fund the prize, which was a tablet.
