Maleficent Why? I Chose this film as I liked Disney’s original version of Sleeping Beauty, however

after watching the trailer it was clear that this was not just an adaption of the original but a completely new story about the background of the character Maleficent.

Genre : Fantasy, Adventure, Family

• Exaggerated emphasis on Angelina Jolie as she has huge star appeal this is shown in the trailer by multiple closer up shots of her face . 17 shots within trailer are a close up of Angelina Jolie.

• Music eerie take on the original version of the music, this helps to emphasise the more darker mood that film has.

• Dialogue at beginning emphasises the story line that we already know from the original film

• Digital effects reinforce the theme of a fairytale , very dark style to the trailer emphasis on the dark subject matter (battles) reflects the dark shots and squences.

• Voice tones change to show different personalities in Maleficent • Ending with fire then fading out to revel name of the film. • The Special effects within the trailer help to emphasis the fantasy

element of the film, also with recent special effects it is quite captivating as some special effects can look very real.

The Great Gatsby Genre : Drama , Romance

Why?I chose the Great Gatsby as it is an unusual take on drama romance as it is more of a tragic story than a romantic one, this made story line more gripping and interesting as it unfolds .

• At the beginning of the trailer the character ‘Tom Buchanan’ asks “exactly who are you anyhow?” this instantly sparks question and curiosity within the audience as who is Mr. Gatsby? • The voice over of character ‘Nick Carraway’ helps to enlighten the audience on the characters feelings and opinions of Gatsby •The two tracks of music played in the trailer help to emphasise the build up to the climax of the trailer and each compliments the part of the trailer in which it is played. •The Shots duration decreases and the pace of editing increases as the trailer builds up to its climax• There is a key focus on the green light at the end of the bay within the trailer, on shot in the trailer shows Gatsby reaching out for this green light . Showing the audience that this light has some significance. •The shots within the trailer are in a non-chronological order however there is an evident understanding of the story line within the trailer.

LucyGenre: Action, Sci-fi, thriller

Why?I chose this film trailer as the actors in the film appealed to me as I liked other films they have appeared in. (“star” appeal) Also the plot conveyed in the trailer grabs your attention and builds up to a climax that creates tension and curiosity in the audience.

• The events of the trailer of edited together to show a build up of the trailer, the music and fast pace of editing helps to build up to climax.•At the beginning of the trailer we see an ECU of her eye and then what appears to be flash back of the night before. •Within the first couple of shots in the movie a simple narrative is established as ‘this could be a major drug trafficking using the girl’ •When she is kicked in the stomach , the camera zooms into her bandage and then cuts to the special effects of what is supposed to be the inside of her stomach – this shows us that what is in her stomach is going to effect her (problem). •After this there is another ECU of her eye again however this time , there are special effects that have been used to change her eye to different animal eyes each time she's blinks – this helps to build up tension as clearly the drugs are going to have an extreme effect on her. •There are several establishing shots within the trailer – showing that this is going to be a fast pace film and emphasis on travel. • A minute into the trailer the girls behaviour changes as the audience can see that she has changed and contrast to the personality and behaviour she displayed before. She appears very robotic and stiff as if she's becoming less human – this is reinforced when she says “its as if everything that makes me human is disappearing”
