Please read the 10 myths that are jeopardizing your prostate health below so that you’ll know the

disinformation the next time you see it.

The 10 Prostate Myths

Myth #1: High Levels Of Testosterone Increase Your Risk Of Getting Prostate Cancer.

This myth really started because back when, people really thought that your prostate and testes were one in the same, but they are not1. You can get prostate cancer, testicular cancer or even both, but they are not the same thing1.

In the Journal Of The National Cancer Institute Dr.Kristal said of this old belief “This is a hypothesis based on a very simplistic understanding of testosterone metabolism and its effect on prostate cancer. It is simply wrong2”.

Unlike estrogen and breast cancer there is simply no relationship between prostate cancer and high testosterone2. A study published in 2008 in the Journal Of The National Cancer Institute, which combined the collective data of several large, long-term studies could find no correlation between the risk if prostate cancer and having high blood level testosterone2.

Just because a thing has been circulated as a belief for a number of years doesn’t mean it’s true, or we would still believe the world was flat even after circling it from outer space.

Myth# 2 If You Feel Any Changes In Your Prostate Or Groin Area You Have Prostate

Cancer.

Not true at all. There are a number of things that could be going on that have nothing to do with prostate cancer. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get checked out and if you do, be sure to read myth #8 first.

One of the most common challenges with the prostate is called prostatitis which is a swelling of the prostate itself.

Some of the more common symptoms may be8: • Trouble getting urine to pass through.• A burning or stinging feeling or pain when urinating. • Strong, frequent urge to urinate, even when there is

only a small amount of urine.• Chills and high fever.• Low back pain or body aches.• Pain low in the belly, groin, or behind the scrotum.• Rectal pressure or pain.• Genital and or rectal throbbing.• Sexual problems and loss of sex drive.• Painful ejaculation (painful sexual climax).

You should of course consult your physician if you’re experiencing any of the above. However, there are nutritional alternatives that can work wonderfully with many from this list. The reason being is that, they all may stem from one thing, which is the swelling of the prostate.

Many states of chronic inflammation can be worked with really well with the right nutritional supplements. The challenge is finding the right one.

The supplement I would recommend to help reduce many of the symptoms of inflammation and to really enhance the overall health of the prostate would be Ben’s Total Health.

The specially selected twenty-three ingredients work together to form a knockout punch that is unrivalled anywhere in the nutritional world.

Myth #3 Eating Tomatoes, Ketchup And Pasta Sauce Will Prevent You From Getting Prostate

Cancer.

That would be news to the entire country of Italy where they eat pasta sauce several times a day in many cases. Their prostate cancer levels were found to be directly correlated to their levels of fat intake right along with every other developed nation in the world4.

As was reported in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, after testing the blood levels of lycopene in 3,500 adult men they found no correlation to lycopene levels and the onset of prostate cancer3.

It would be nice if this one were actually true because you would have amazing sales of spaghetti to men at all the pasta houses. You could get your prevention treatment while filling up on an enjoyable evening out with friends.

Yes, tomatoes do have tons of health benefits and keeping your body nutritionally sound will help you fight off any disease. No educated physician or researcher would argue that. However, much to the dismay of ketchup makers everywhere, no direct correlation has yet

been found3.

Myth #4 If You Experience Urinary Hesitancy You Have A Problem With Your Prostate.

While it may be the case that you do actually have a problem and may wish to get it checked out, there are a few things you can look at first to see if they may be the culprits.

Urinary hesitancy can also be caused by:• Drugs: a few different types of cold remedies, certain

nasal decongestants, tricyclic antidepressants, and anticholinergic drugs that are used for incontinence.

• Enlarged prostate - benign prostatic hyperplasia.• Inflammation of the prostate gland - prostatitis.• Nervous system disorders• Postoperative retention from a recent surgery.• Scar tissue build up. • A urinary tract infection.

If the symptoms persist, it’s of course recommended to be examined by your physician. However, really good supplementation and nutrition can help with the inflammation that will be at the root cause of the challenges for most men.

Myth #5 Elderly Men Are The Only Ones At Risk For Developing Prostate Cancer.

As you age your risk of prostate cancer increases dramatically that’s true. But once you see the real numbers, you won’t call the number one age group for the disease elderly by a long shot.

Page 9: TOP 10 PROSTATE MYTHS LEARN MORE ONLINE - … · • Difficulty starting a urine stream or having to strain to get it started. • Decreased strength of the urine stream (weak flow)

With men under 40 the risk is generally only about 1 in 10,000. From the ages of 40 to 59 the rate blasts off to 1 in 38. This age group being the biggest percentage rate change, and only being between 40 and 59 is hardly what I think anyone would consider to be elderly5.

Then it moves to about 1 in 14 from ages 60 to 69, which is a big increase as well, but not nearly the jump the 40 to 59 group took5.

Lastly, over 60% of all prostate cancers are diagnosed in men after they’ve hit 65. However, one of the things to understand about that last sentence is that prostate cancer is a very slow to develop disease. Many men will have the early stages of it for many years before they ever go get checked because they feel fine during those early years.

Myth #6 If You Have To Urinate All The Time You Have A Serious Prostate Problem.

This may not be the case at all. One of the most common challenges with having to urinate frequently is actually called OAB or Overactive Bladder that affects approximately 30% of men in the United States9.

There are a variety of reasons you could have an overactive bladder that have nothing to do with the prostate at all, a few of them are9:• Medication side effects.• Consuming too much caffeine and alcohol.• Kidney problems.

The main sign that you may have an overactive bladder is the frequent uncontrollable urge to urinate. A few of the

other common symptoms may include9:• Frequent urination - more than eight times a day.• Leaking urine.• Urinating more than once a night during your sleeping

hours.

Another reason that you could be experiencing an overactive bladder is diabetes or the pre-symptoms of the early stages of diabetes9.If you know you’re not drinking too much caffeine or alcohol and aren’t on any medications then you may wish to consider diabetic screening to evaluate your risks. Then of course follow the natural progression of getting checked out for overactive bladder before you have a prostate analysis done. The reason being is, it might just be something simple that can be easily handled. The main thing is to look for the simple things first before jumping to conclusions. Don’t start to worry just because some internet site said you must have a big problem. Have they examined you? No, so take it with a grain of salt and follow a logical progression to resolve it.

Myth #7 Doctors Will Always Recommend Treating Prostate Cancer.

This is not true. Once diagnosed a man may or may not be treated for the following reasons.

The doctor may feel that the prostate cancer is at too early of a stage and growing too slowly. Or It may be that the patient’s cancer is too advanced and cannot be treated.

The other reason is that; the patient may have other health challenges, so that if treated would aggravate and

become life threatening. Now, all that being said and not wanting to go against the advice or council of a physician. If a person’s prostate cancer is in very early stages and they are told that it’s too early to treat. They may want to get a second opinion.

That of course is completely the choice of the individual. However, treating something in the early stages may just be exactly what you’d want to do.

Myth #8 The Prostate-Specific Antigen Test (PSA Test) Can Accurately Tell Me If I Have Prostate

Cancer

It has been for years presumed that, when you have a PSA test to analyzes your blood for a specific antigen produced by the prostate and it shows higher than normal levels, that you have cancer. This is now being shown to not be the case at all.

The PSA test for THIS purpose has been coming under fire for a number of years. The reason I said “this” purpose is because it does serve an immensely valuable role that we will discuss later.

PSA testing for the purpose of prostate cancer screening was 1st debunked in the Stanford University News in 2004 when it said: “The most commonly used screening tool for detecting prostate cancer – the PSA test – is virtually worthless for predicting men’s risk of contracting the disease, medical school researchers have determined. Stanford scientists studied prostate tissues collected in the 20 years since a high PSA test result became the standard

for prostate removal. They concluded that as a screen, the test indicates nothing more than the size of the prostate gland10.”

That last sentence is very important as you’ll see later, it’s a fantastic tool if used “properly”.

There is a reason that this test is not ideal for cancer screening as was reported in CNN News: “The problem is that many of the cancers that get detected are so small and slow-growing, they’ll never be harmful, and doctors have a difficult time discerning the quick, harmful cancers from the slow, harmless ones11.”So, if the PSA test has been shown to not be so helpful in screening for prostate cancer, then what exactly is it helpful for.

Well, the good news is found in that last sentence by Stanford University News in 2004 when they said: “They concluded that as a screen, the test indicates nothing more than the size of the prostate gland10.”

The PSA test is an accurate test to determine prostate size and this alone is vitally important. The reason being that prostate size caused by inflammation can be helped rather dramatically with nutrition.

With the nutritional assistance you have choices. You can make some pretty strict dietary changes, or you can use the correct nutritional supplements, or you can of course do both.

The supplement I would recommend to help reduce many of the symptoms of inflammation and to really enhance the overall health of the prostate would be Ben’s Total Health.

The specially selected twenty-three ingredients work together to form a knockout punch that is unrivaled anywhere in the nutritional world.

Getting started with your nutrition early and keeping after it are the keys to success. Not doing anything about it can have obvious consequences.

Myth #9 If You Get Prostate Cancer You’ll Definitely Die From It.

The fact is, prostate cancer is the most survivable of all the forms of cancer a man can get6.

Statistics clearly show that you can survive prostate cancer and that your odds are very high indeed.

Here are the prostate cancer survival rates6. The relative 5-year survival rate is almost 100%The relative 10-year survival rate is 99%The 15-year relative survival rate is 94%

As you can see your chances are pretty darn good. This does not mean that you should in any way take this as a sign that you don’t have to treat it seriously. Not at all. There are about 27,540 deaths from prostate cancer in the United States each year7.

So, prostate cancer is nothing to be fooling with, it’s not something that you can put off and not worry about, or you could find yourself in that last statistic before you know it.

Myth #10 If I Have Any Prostate Problems That Means I’ll Also Have Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Problems Too.

This again is a myth that is circulated around about prostate challenges that is simply not true.

Many of the ED problems are that, men with known prostate issues are older in the first place when natural sexual desire starts to decline anyway.

In connection with the prostate itself many of the ED challenges can be due to prostate treatment drugs12 And other treatments such as surgery13. It is also well known that the inflammation (swelling) of the prostate can be responsible for ED type challenges10,12,13.

If you’re not undergoing any treatments that may be at the root cause, then you should look into reducing the swelling of the prostate with dietary changes and nutritional supplementation.

At www.bensprostate.com that’s what we do, we are 100% dedicated to supporting your prostate health and seeing you through any challenges and into a long and happy life.
