Tooth whitening can be a very effective way oflightening the natural colour of your teeth withoutremoving any of the tooth surface.

FAQ’sDoes it harm my teeth? The active ingredient in the gel is carbamide peroxide. As this isbroken down oxygen gets into the enamel and dentine of the teethand the tooth colour is made lighter. This is completely non-invasiveand takes nothing away from the tooth surface. It can, however, make the teeth more sensitive during the period of teeth whitening. This is short lived and can be reduced by using sensitive toothpaste.

How long does it last?Everyone is different, some people report not having to top-up theirtooth whitening for 5 years and whilst 2 - 3 years is average, manywill wish to carry out the procedure for one or two nights every 6months or so. A lot depends on the diet and type of enamel.

The trays should be kept so you do not need to have theseremade if and when you top-up your tooth whitening, so keepingcosts down.

Will it lighten my crowns and white fillings? No, unfortunately it has no effect on these, so after your teethhave been whitened you may need fillings in front teeth orcrowns replaced to match your newly whitened teeth. If youhave a large amount of crowns, front fillings, bridges or adenture you may not be a suitable case for having toothwhitening your dentist will advise you.

As we get older, naturally our teeth get darker. This discolouringis increased by habits such as; drinking tea, coffee and red wine, smoking and eating strongly coloured foods.

Tooth whitening can be done to restore our teeth back to theirnatural colour, giving you a bright, confident smile.

How long does it take? This is different for every person but it typically takes 2 - 4 weeks. Some people see differences in days whereas for certain toothstaining disorders it can take 6 months.

How can I look after my teeth once they havebeen whitened?Keep your teeth clean and avoid, as much as possible, foods anddrinks which could cause staining. If you smoke please stop, andif you are having difficulty with this ask your GP, pharmacist ordentist about smoking cessation advice.
