Va l en t i n es D ayWhat is Valentines Day?
Valentine's Day, also called Saint
Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint
Valentine, is celebrated annually on
February 14. The Significance is the
Feast day of Saint Valentine; the
celebration of love and
affection.Valentine's Day is recognized
as a significant cultural, religious, and
commercial celebration of romance
and romantic love in many regions
around the world, although it is not a
public holiday in any country.
Government offices, stores, schools
and other organizations are open as
usual. Public transit systems run on
their regular schedule. Restaurants
may be busier than usual as many
people go out for an evening with
their spouse or partner.
History of Valentines Day
The day became associated with
romantic love in the Middle Ages in
England. This may have followed on
from the Pagan fertility festivals
that were held all over Europe as
the winter came to an end. During
the Middle Ages, it was commonly
believed in France and England that
February 14 was the beginning of
birds? mating season, which added to
the idea that the middle of
Valentine?s Day should be a day for
romance. However, it started as a
Western Christian feast day
honoring one or two early saints
named Valentinus. The Catholic
Church recognizes at least three
different saints named Valentine or
Valentinus, all of whom were put to
death. One legend contends that
Valentine was a priest who served
during the third century in Rome.
When Emperor Claudius II decided
that single men made better soldiers
than those with wives and families,
he banned marriage for young men.
Valentine, realizing the injustice of
the decree, worshiped Claudius and
continued to perform marriages for
young lovers in secret. When
Valentine?s actions were discovered,
Claudius ordered that he be put to
death on Feb. 14 of different years
in the 3rd century A.D. Their death
was honored by the Catholic Church
with the celebration of St.
Valentine's Day. The holiday's roots
are in the ancient Roman festival of
Lupercalia, a fertility celebration
commemorated annually on
February 15. Pope Gelasius I recast
this pagan festival as a Christian
feast day circa 496, declaring
February 14 to be St. Valentine's
Day.
Symbols
There are many Valentine's Day
symbols. These symbols would be
the heart, particularly in reds and
pinks, and pictures or models of
Cupid. Cupid is usually portrayed as
a small winged figure with a bow and
arrow. In mythology, he uses his
arrow to strike the hearts of people.
People who have fallen in love are
sometimes said to be 'struck by
Cupid's arrow. Other symbols of
Valentine's Day are couples in loving
embraces and the gifts of flowers,
chocolate, red roses and lingerie that
couples often give each other.
Gifts
Gifts started by the middle of the
18th century, it was common for
friends and lovers of all social
classes to exchange small tokens of
affection or handwritten notes, and
by 1900 printed cards began to
replace written letters due to
improvements in printing
technology. Cards were an easy way
for people to express their emotions
in a time when direct expression of
one?s feelings was discouraged.
Many people celebrate their love for
their partner by sending cards or
letters, giving gifts or flowers and
arranging meals in restaurants or
romantic nights in hotels. People
who would like to have a romantic
relationship with somebody may use
the occasion to make this known,
often anonymously. Valentine's
cards are often decorated with
images of hearts, red roses or Cupid.
Common Valentine's Day gifts are
flowers chocolates, candy, lingerie
and champagne or sparkling wine.
However, some people use the
occasion to present lavish gifts, such
as jewelry. Many restaurants and
hotels have special offers at this
time. By: Miriam Zuniga-Garcia
Waves Descr ipt ion Of Waves
Waves are the new trend
these days. Mostly people
with curly hair have waves.
Waves are laid down curls.
To have waves you must
have dedication,
determination and patience
to get them. This is why
having a brush is so
important because to get
your curls to lay down all the
way you must continuously
brush your hair.
Durags
The durag has been
used since the 1920s.
It was used to hold hair in
place while sleeping.
Originally, they were most
commonly made out of
women's stockings.
However, currently they are
made from different
materials like satin, suede,
cotton and, the most
famously, silk. If you're not
brushing your hair, you
should most likely have a
durag on in order to keep
your hair laid down.

and lay down at the same
time which makes ?waves.?
Brushes are made out of
bristles. There are three
different types of brushes
which are, hard, medium,
and soft. Hard brushes are
used for people with rough
hair and it helps lay their
hair down. Medium brushes
are used for the same
reasons as hard brushes just
a litt le softer.
Soft brushes are mainly
used by people with Straight
hair, and to put grease in
your waves.
When using a good
brush, waves can
take up to a month
to start coming in. There are
different stages in having
waves. The first stage is the
ripple stage. This stage is
where you first started
brushing and your waves
are coming in a litt le bit.
Then there are connections.
When your waves coming in
you need to make sure you
brush in the same pattern
every time you brush so
your connections can be
good. After the connections
stage you need to work on
your crown. Your crown is
the middle of your head and
this is where you
need to brush out
from. After the
Different stages of waves
crown stage there is the
stage where you need to get
your waves showing. This is
when you have waves and
your crown look nice but
your waves aren?t showing
as much. You need greases
to help your waves pop out.
That is all the stages.
THE DURAG IS NOT GANG
RELATED. People think the
durag is gang related
because of the past history
of people in gangs wearing
durags on their head a
specific color. So, it become
hard to tell whether people
are in a gang or not but that
assumption does not apply
to everyone. The main
colors people mistake for
gang colors are mostly red
and blue.

Social I mpact of B ird B ox Bird Box The movie Bird Box is a Netflix original that is highly popular that came out December 13th, 2018. The first week Bird Box was released 45 million Netflix subscribers watched the movie.
nowhere and no one knows who specifically started the challenge. Basically, the way that the challenge goes is that you need to use a blindfold or something to cover your face and you got to
The story is about how a mysterious force declines the population and makes people see things that would make them go crazy and commit suicide. The people that are
left have to learn how to survive so they use an actual bird and put it in a box because it can sense danger. They have to make it to the safe side, but the trick is they have to use blindfolds in order to make it out so that the force does not cause them to not to go crazy.Bird Box can only be streamed on Netflix but has already made an impact on social media and the Internet.
Challenges The challenges had the most impact because it was going viral everywhere on social media (mainly on Instagram).
The challenges came out of
walk around in it, but you can't lift it up or, just like the movie, you?ll die! It was inspired by one of the scenes in
the movie where the mother and her children had on blindfolds and she had to guide them to safety. The challenges went so viral that Netflix itself had to demand people to stop because the challenge was getting out of hand.
Bird Box has also impacted the Internet by the Memes and funny captions that were used. The Memes drew people to want to watch the movie because they had to watch the movie in order to understand the Memes because of the different scenes they used. The Memes were posted everywhere on social media and it gave people something to look forward to when they finished watching the movie and some of them are hilarious.

Deeper Meaning The deeper meaning of the movie Bird Box is showing the fear of parenthood and how it can be viewed as a dangerous task. People also think that bird box is an awareness for people who are suicidal and who struggle with depression. The movie Bird Box aims towards suicide because in 2016 there were 44,965 suicides in America. The movie is more than blindfolds and a mini love story; there is more to it. When you see the movie, you would notice the blind folds and also you would see how in depth the writer is about the people when they do get caught in the "Abyss." Each character that removes their blindfolds or do look all have different things and thoughts that drove them crazy enough to want to die. Think about it if you have lost a family member or someone you love or possibly a sad or depressing thought if you were in Bird Box and you lift you blind fold or looked you would experience all those emotions of losing/pain. The people that do have their blind folds and did not give in and are saying that they "see no evil" meaning they are being strong and wanting their
life. The big message is saying that no matter what you go through you can get pass it and it will make you stronger in the end. Memes Explained:
This was a scene in the movie where the intruder in the movie he kept trying to get them to look but, no one wanted to. So he forced the woman to look. The meme is relating to kids and their mother when they are looking for things that are 9 timeouts
of 10 in front of their faces.
By:Cj Hayes and K yrie Higgins
This meme is referring to the one scene in the movie that people thought as the most important scene because it was the part where she had to choose between her two children who would help and look. It is describing the scene in a very funny way.

Leap year Smack down!
What's leap year?
Leap year is a calendar of 366 days the 366 day is counting February 29. But the thing about it is it happens every 4 years the next time it 's coming is in February 29, 2020.
Where Leap Year Came From?
The Egyptians were the first to calculate the need for a leap year , but it didn?t arrive in Europe until the reign of the Roman Dictator Julius Caesar. While the modern calendar contains 365 days, the actual time it takes for Earth to orbit its star is slightly longer roughly 365.2421 days. The Gregorian calendar, which now serves as the standard calendar for civil use throughout the world has both common years and leap years.
What are the chances of being born on leap year?
About 1 in 1,500.
How many people were born on leap day?
There are about 187,000 people in the US and 4 million people in the
world who were born on Leap Day.
The rules for determining a leap year
Most years that can be divided evenly by 4 are leap years.
Why do we have leap year
Before then, the Roman calendar had operated on a * muddled lunar model that regularly required adding an extra month to maintain celestial consistency. It may not seem like much of a difference, but after a few years those extra quarter days in the solar year begin to add up. After four years, for example, the four extra quarter days would make the calendar fall behind the solar year by about a day.
Why is leap year important?
This day is added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure, because the Earth does not orbit the sun in precisely 365 days. The Gregorian calendar is a modification of the Julian calendar first used by the Romans.
Are any other systems or calendars affected by Leap Year?
This is where the science of leap year started. One additional day would be added to the calendar every four years. In the Gregorian calendar, century years would only be leap years if they were divisible by 400. It was a small change, but necessary to keep the seasons and calendar in sync.
Is Leap Year recognized in certain religious calendars?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year 366 days, with the extra or intercalary day designated as February 29. A leap year occurs every four years to help synchronize the calendar year with the solar year, or the length of time it takes the earth to complete its orbit around the sun, which is about 365¼ days.
Facts about leap year
People born on February 29 are called "leaplings" or "leapers".
February 29 also marks Rare Disease Day.
The frog is a symbol associated with February 29. The Australian rocket frog can leap over two metres.
If you were born on Leap Day, your zodiac sign is Pisces.
Leap Years are 11 minutes longer than a vernal equinox year, making the vernal equinox move a day earlier about every 131 years.
