Includes drivers for AMD 6xxx Graphics cards
Identifies and removes Mac Defender malware
App Store Update to "Get Ready for Lion"
Still no NVIDIA 4xx Fermi support by default
IMPORTANT: For Socket 1155 Sandy Bridge users, installing the 10.6.8 update is causing
crashes, or kernel panics. Use UpdateHelper before applying the update to solve this issue.
Details here.
Graphics - The update will replace your NVIDIA drivers.
If you're using a NVIDIA 4xx "Fermi" card, you will have to update to the latest official
drivers BEFORE rebooting. Download here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-
macosx-256.02.25f01-driver.html
If your system is stalling in verbose mode on [ PCI configuration begin ], install the
IOPCIFamily FIX available in MultiBeast 3.8.0.
Audio - The update will replace your AppleHDA.kext.
If you use ALC8xxHDA for audio, you will have to reinstall AppleHDA
Rollback using MultiBeast. If you're using VoodooHDA, you will not need to make
any modifications.
USB - The update will replace your IOUSBFamily.kext.
To restore full USB functionality on a Non-DSDT or EasyBeast system you may
need to install USB Rollback using MultiBeast before reboot. Download MultiBeast.

the guy earlier was right about the notice you see when you boot verbose: "PCI configuration
begin". The computer apparently was fine but _I_ panicked and rebooted thinking it wasn't going to
work as this is a classic sign that the boot has failed. DON'T GIVE UP SO EASILY!!! I tried it again
and the phone rang and I noticed it came right up and worked fine after this mysterious message.
No more verbose messages appeared but soon the blue screen came up and then my user
showed up. It's fine. We have to learn not to panic ourselves as apparently the kernel is fine!!! I
have GA-P55A-UDP4 with i7-875 with DSDT.

You can manually install kexts in single user mode. If you can't get the kext on the disk from single
user mode, try using a linux rescue disk. It seems that you should be able to install a kext from
linux (although I haven't done it personally), just so long as you clear the kextcache by booting with
-f.
I have reverted kexts back from time machine using Single User mode. That has been a big
time-saver for me.

and IOPCIFamily.kext to .bak) but needed to create *new* AppleACPIPlatform.kext and
IOPCIFamily.kext folders, then used "cp -r (source) (dest)" to copy the kext folders.
Now to get graphics working

Updated successfully, but networking is broken. Both WiFi and LAN doesn't work, also hangs for a
while before login (although both devices are working perfectly on hardware level). Obviously a
software bug. Seems like Apple has done some "improvements"
The real fix is to use
SMboardproduct
Mac-F4208CC8
in SMBIOS.plist plus newer Chameleon version that is able to load SMboardproduct key correctly.
For me it was latest Chameleon trunk (1052).

i need some help please!
i was on snow leopard 10.6.7 every thing works fine. After updating i got a kernel panic becose of
the sleepEnabler, then i reboot with command "pmVersion=0" then it went to the white screen with
the apple logo, but no spinning wheel on the screen, so no loading. I reboot with command
"pmVersion=0 -x -v" to show me more infos while booting, as i saw the computer stops at the line:
"PCI configuration begin". nothing happends after that. Any idea or advice is very welcome. thanks
This is the Solution:
1- I used iBoot and run it from External HD.
2- also i have a USB Stick with iAtkos on it.
3- I went to Disk Utility and rund iAtkos again (Snow Leopard 10.6.3) a downgrade in other words.
4- ShutDown Machine.
5- BootUp the machine and select HD with Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with Flag "pmVersion=0" (becose
the SleepEnabler from 10.6.7 don't work anymore and give a cracy Kernel Panic).
6- Install MacOSXcombo 10.6.8 (do NOT ShutDown the Machine).
7- Run Multibeast and costumize it to your choice.
8- Delete SleepEnabler from the Extra Folder
9- Install the latest Nvidia driver
10-ShutDown the Machine
Now it should start up like a charm!

my fix:
I opened my computer, removed my Geforce210 and hooked my monitor up via VGA to my

Reboot
Fail
Related to VoodooHDA....
Reboot
Safe mode (-x)
Run newest multibeast 3.7.3 (make sure to check VoodoHDA in audio section as well)
Open Disk Utility
Repair Permissions
Shutdown
Reinstall nVidia card and reconnect via DVI
boot

I use Chameleon RC5 747 following an initial iBoot install (TonyMac BoortRom Version)
10.6.8 installed like a charm... did not need to overwrite any of my kexts,,, only removed
AppleHDA.kext as Voodoo is the only kext that plays nice with my sound card. All works fine but no
SleepEnabler. None of the SleepEnablers our there have ever worked with my set up so I simply
don't use one, Internet/Ethernet, Video, USB, Sound... all fine
Simply downloaded and installed the combo update... did not reboot... reinstalled chameleon.. did
not log off,,, ran kext utility on both The Sys/Lib/ Extensions and Extra/Extensions folders,,,
rebooted and all is well.
The only thing though that I seem to have an issue with now though is that there is no progress
wheel at all, even in safe mode... but the systems boots fine. Anyone else had this?

Fix for PCI Configuration Begin freeze:
It is all fixed now. I am up and running on 10.6.8 on my GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard with
GeForce 9500GT graphics Card. This is how I got it working.
Followed the advice in Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update - The Official Thread on page 6 as recommended
by bmas. The link http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22882&start=50
******Important******
Before attempting to install 10.6.8 copy
1. /S/L/E/AppleACPiPlatform.Kext
2. /S/L/E/IOPCIFamily.Kext
from your working 10.6.7 Snow Leopard to a safe directory.
Then
1. download the 10.6.8 update combo bundle
2. Get Multibeast 3.7.3 if you don't already have it
3. Install the update but do not reboot
4. one the install is done fire up Multi Beast
5. install Kext Helper B7 from OSx86 software
6. launch kext helper b7
7. drag the previously backed up AppleACPIPlatform.Kext and IOPCIFamily.Kext into the kext
helper b7 tool and instll it.
In my case the AppleACPIPlatform.kext had not been updated by 10.6.8. Not sure if this file is
required. I put back both kext files anyway.
8. fired up multi beast and installed Audio-->Realtek ALC8xx --> ALC8XXHDA
--> AppleHDA Rollback
-->NonDSDT HDEnabler-->ALC889
also installed Realtek Gigabit Ethernet 2.0.6
and USB 3.0 from the misc section
9. once done then hit the reboot from the OSX updater window.
Then the system booted up fine with no issues have audio/network/graphics.
Thanks for all the help.

My fix for not being able to boot (stuck at apple logo during boot).
I noticed that booting with the -v flag (verbose) works. At first it seems booting freezes at 'PCI
Configuration Begin', but after about 15 seconds or so, it will continue booting. So i added:
Kernel Flags
-v
In the "com.apple.Boot.plist", so now it will allways boot in verbose mode.
In order to get here i had to swap videocards (took out my Nvidia gtx285 and put in an old ati) and
boot using -x -v (verbose safe boot). Install the nvidia update (the one from the nvidia website).
Reboot and run the AppleHDA Rollback with multibeast. Reboot again. From this point on only
booting in verbose mode works. So for that i used the fix as i described above.
I hope this will help someone.

At the forum, I already wrote that the message "PCI configuration begin" caused by an error in the
file DSDT.aml. In the section Device (PCI0) must remove the line: "Name (_ADR, Zero)" and
corrected following the first in: "Name (_UID, Zero)". This will be enough so that the system
worked, as expected.

AppleHDA roolback. all works sort-of fine on 32 bit - but when trying to boot in 64 bit, it hangs at
the "PCI configuration begin" message. (it stays there for a number of seconds in 32 bit mode as
well, but in 64 bit, it just never moves on)
what could be 64 bit specific that makes the boot process stop there?

Installed with no trouble at all, no kernel panics, no PCI config issues. I'm using an older system
though:
ASUS P5B
Intel Core2Duo 3.0 GHZ (E6850 I beieve)
4 GB RAM
GT220 1GB video card
First I downloaded and burned iBoot to ensure that it would work, and it did before and after I
updated. I still had my IDE drive and two other SATA Drives installed but 10.6.7 and Windows XP
are on a Kingston 64 GB SSD.
I had d/l the combo update earlier to a secondary internal drive. I ran the update, restarted, closed
my eyes, and saw the Mac booted normally and showed the update. I was already using the
Voodoo for audio and the USB Rollback, so maybe that's what kept it going.

Hi All.
Thanks Tony and Macman. After several trials to update to 10.6.8, I finally succeeded.
I backed up all my stuff on another 1TB HDD using time machine. Cleaned up my install HDD.
Used iBoot 3.0.3 followed the 10.6.8 iBoot-Multibeast steps.
For multibeast I used the latest one 3.7.
Followed the DSDT install for Mac Pro 2010 since my system has same configs
Only difference used , realtek for ethernet and 64 bit apple enable, in addition to the audio and
USB recommendation for 10.6.8.
Rebooted, got panic, nVidia video card not found. I dont use nvidia
Restarted used verbose- it showed the same issue and booted to my desktop.
Under apps I clicked on kext utility. It fixed the isuue!
My computer is fully functional now. Boots no problem.
The wheel on apple logo boot up screen rotates unlike some postings posted earlier.
Only issue my eject button on my apple keyboard is not working. Other shortcut keys are fully
functional. I probably need to unplug it and or switch usb ports.
I just need to plug in my time machine HDD and restore my files and folders.
Hope this posting helps these forum.

Successful update to 10.6.8 for me but not after some trouble. Here is my experience of updating
without doing PCI Configuration Fix.
I reinstalled Snow Leopard to the Retail DVD of 10.6.3. I came back 30 minutes later and it had
restarted and worked fine with all my previous kexts (NV Enabler) but no audio. No problem
because I had my USB and ethernet to fix the previous damage.
I used the PCI Configuration Fix and restarted and now I have 10.6.8 working perfectly. Thanks to
all those above my comment who helped!!

…I do also come seeking advice, I cannot seem to get 10.6.8 to enable 64bit mode, after checking

64bit?
I used iBoot to install retail 10.6.3, ran combo update 10.6.8, installed Kext’s with Kextbeast. I just
cant find any possible solutions to try???

After 10.6.8, I have nolonger QE/CI support. All kexts loaded (Nvenabler64, NVDREsman,
NVDANV50Hal) but no Qe/Ci. NVRAM size is identified correctly.
So, No Video, No translucent bars, No frontrow.
Sound is working fine after DSDT and rolling back the HDAEnabler.
Its been weeks trying to find out the solution.

So I finally, after cloning my HDD, plucked up enough courage to install the update to 10.6.8.
Never really am quite confident about these things after the ordeal of getting OSX to run. But
here's what happened:
Installed the combo update and rebooted fine. No audio though. Ran multibeast and checked a
few selections including the apple audio rollback, USB3.0, Apple 64bit load screen and one or two
others.
So glad I cloned my HDD as now the thing won't boot up. It goes black, or more like the screen
goes to sleep, after the Chameleon boot screen. Managed to get it to the Apple logo screen once
with iBoot CD, but it always freezes.

Attempting to restore from image now, but as it's on an External HDD it's taking forever just to
imagescan. Did attempt to restore from Time Machine but encountered the problem of being
unable to restore as it's from a '...different version of mac...'
Will be formatting the Time Machine disc and use a different backup tool in future.
Really like using OSX but this kind of thing is so frustrating.
No idea what the problem was.

Intel Core i7 960/970(?)
Gigabyte X58-UD3R
6gb Memory
Graphics... unsure...
Will update more once I get it working.

@FernandoCG -
'Family' KEXTs generally contain classes that are sub-classed, in other words they are not really
drivers and have dependencies. Have you placed your KEXT in the correct location?
- Install to: /Extra/Extensions folder, and in /S/L/E IOUSBFamily.kext & IOPCIFamily.kext should
also remain the originals??
If you wish to persist with the KEXTs, you can try this:
http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1163
and the USB Fix from:
http://www.kexts.com/view/1010-usb_fix.html
Are you using a DSDT file with your build? ...If you are having no luck with kexts, I suggest trying a
DSDT file. If you have already, have you tried patching it?
There is a DSDT patch tool that Will solve some USB problems with broken USB EHCI, and USB
UHCI. Please do some reading on the following pages and I hope you solve your problem!
Use MaLd0n's DSDT Auto-Patcher to generate your DSDT:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=235523%20-%20auto%20patcher
Insert hacks and apply USB fixes to your DSDT with the tool here:
http://osx86.co/f36/evosx86-dsdtfixer-t6855/
Place your DSDT.aml in /Extra/Extensions folder of your install. Run User DSDT/System Utilities in
MultiBeast.
Hopefully everything is now working :D
