All thermal performance (R-Values) are classified by Underwriters Laboratories in accordance with ADC Flexible Duct Performance
and Installation Standard (1991) using ASTM C-518 (1991), at installed wall thickness, on flat insulation only.
ATCO #030, 036, and 031 are UL 181, Class 1 Air Ducts and are manufactured with a tri-directional fiberglass scrim reinforced, met-
allized polyester outer jacket. The inner core of all three products is air-tight and designed for low-to-medium operating pressures in
HVAC systems. ATCO #036 and 031 have increased insulation for superior thermal performance.
Description
Flexible Duct Systems
A double lamination of tough polyester which encapsulates a steel wire helix forms the air-tight inner core of the ATCO #030, 036,
and 031. The double-layer core of each product is wrapped in multiple thicknesses of fiberglass insulation. All three products are
sheathed in a rugged and durable tri-directionally reinforced, metallized polyester jacket.
Construction
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Air-tight Inner Core - Energy efficient / No fiberglass erosion into air stream.
Encapsulated Wire Helix - No unraveling when cut to length / Quick installation
Smooth Inner Core - Low friction loss / Low operating cost.
Thick Blanket of Fiberglass Insulation - Energy efficient / Excellent thermal characteristics
Tough Reinforced Metallized Polyester Jacket - Tear and puncture resistant / Low maintenance.
Lightweight Compact Carton - Reduces warehouse and Jobsite handling cost.
APPLICATIONS & CODE COMPLIANCES*
ATCO #030, 036, and 031 are designed for indoor use as a supply and return air duct in residential and commercial low-to-medium
pressure heating and air conditioning systems. All three models can be used as a complete air duct system and/or a branch duct
connecting to mixing boxes, diffusers, light troffers, room inlets, or other terminal devices. UL 181, NFPA 90A & 90B, IMC, IRC, UMC
10-1, HUD 515-2.1 (b), Cities of Chicago, New York, San Francisco, County of Dade (Florida), California State Fire Marshal.*
*ATCO recommends that you check with the local code body having jurisdiction in your area to determine applicable codes.

SUGGESTED SPECIFICATION
MD35 PERFORMANCE DATA
Furnish and install, at locations shown on plans or in accordancewith schedules, manual balancing dampers that meet or exceedthe following minimum construction standards: Frame shall be 16gage (1.6) galvanized steel formed into structural hat channelshape with tabbed corners for reinforcement. The blades shall besingle skin, 16 gage (1.6) galvanized steel with three longitudinal
grooves for reinforcement. Bearings shall be corrosion resistant, molded synthetic sleeve type turning in an extruded hole in thedamper frame. Axles shall be hexagonal positively locked into thedamper blade. Dampers shall in all respects be equivalent toRuskin Model MD35.
The MD35 is structurally designed for velocities to 2000 fpm andabove. Turbulence may produce objectionable noise in some con-ditions with velocities above 1500 fpm.
Dampers may tolerate higher pressures and velocities than thoselisted here. Conservative ratings are presented intentionally in aneffort to avoid misapplication. Consult Ruskin or your Ruskin repre-sentative when a damper is to be applied in conditions exceedingrecommended maximums.
INSTALLATION AND DIMENSIONAL INFORMATION
BRACING OF MULTIPLE SECTIONDAMPER ASSEMBLIES
The MD35 is intended to be self supporting only in its largest singlesection size. Multiple section damper assemblies may require brac-ing to support the weight of the assembly and to hold against sys-tem pressure. Ruskin recommends appropriate bracing to support
the damper horizontally at least once for every 8' of damper width.Vertical assemblies and higher system pressures may require morebracing.

PERFORMANCE DATA
WATER PENETRATIONTest size 48" wide x 48" high (1219 x 1219)
Beginning point of water penetration at .01 oz./sq. ft. is 1023 fpm (312 m/min).
Furnish and install louvers as hereinafter specified where shown onplans or as described in schedules. Louvers shall be stationarydrainable type with drain gutters in each blade and downspouts injambs and mullions. Louvers shall have a minimum of 57% freearea based on a 48" wide x 48" high (1219 x 1219) size. Stationarydrainable blades shall be contained within a 6" (152) frame. Louvercomponents (heads, jambs, sills, blades, & mullions) shall be fac-tory assembled by the louver manufacturer. Louver sizes too largefor shipping shall be built up by the contractor from factory assem-bled louver sections to provide overall sizes required. Louverdesign shall limit span between visible mullions to 10 feet (3) andshall incorporate structural supports required to withstand a wind-load of 20 lbs. per sq. ft. (.96kPa) (equivalent of a 90 mph wind[145 KPH] wind – specifier may substitute any loading required).
Louvers shall be Ruskin Model ELF6375DX or ELF6375DXHextruded 6063T5 aluminum construction as follows:
Frame: 6" (152) deep. ELF6375DX - .081" (2.1) nominal wallthickness. ELF6375DXH - .125" (3.2) nominal wall thickness.
Blades: ELF6375DX - .081" (2.1) nominal wall thickness.ELF6375DXH - .125" (3.2) nominal wall thickness.Drainable blades are positioned at 371/2° angle andspaced approximately 529/32" (150) center to center.
Screen: 3/4" x .051" (19 x 1.3) expanded, flattened aluminum in removable frame.
Finish: Select finish specification from Ruskin FinishesBrochure.
Published louver performance data bearing the AMCA CertifiedRatings Seal for Air Performance & Water Penetration must be sub-mitted for approval prior to fabrication and must demonstrate pres-sure drop and water penetration equal to or less than the Ruskinmodel specified.
AMCA Standard 500 provides a reasonable basis for testing andrating louvers. Testing to AMCA 500 is performed under a certainset of laboratory conditions. This does not guarantee that otherconditions will not occur in the actual environment where louversmust operate.
The louver system should be designed with a reasonable safetyfactor for louver performance. To ensure protection from watercarryover, design with a performance level somewhat below maxi-mum desired pressure drop and .01 oz./sq. ft. of water penetration.
