Tom and Ruby’s wedding – my paternal grandparents
29 July 1925 St John’s Anglican Church Smithtown, near Kempsey, NSW. William Thomas James (Tom)
Saul married Ruby May Burton to the ‘accompaniment of delightful weather’. My grandmother recalled
that a week before the wedding Tom had been in a car accident and he injured his knee. During the
service he couldn’t kneel at the altar! Their wedding was reported in the Nambucca and Bellinger News
and Macleay Chronicle.

Honeymoon in Sydney before they returned to their newly built
home on their farm, just down the road from his parents and their
extended families.
Their home at Bellimbopinni (near
Seven Oaks, just north of Kempsey),
built on their farm at the time of their
marriage. The road in the front of the
house is the Pacific Highway!
