Tohkon Judo Academy, a not for profit organization, wasfounded in 1992. It is dedicated to advancing the principlesof Judo as set forth by Jigoro Kano, the father of Judo.Following these principles can instill a "fighting spirit"–not abelligerent or militaristic spirit, but rather the kind thatcombats complacency and mediocrity and embraceshonor, integrity, self-control and determination. Our mission is to:–To bring together people of diverse socioeconomicbackgrounds–To teach young members to have a sense of priority, selfdiscipline and self esteem–To bring a sense of individual responsibility, accomplish-ment and self-confidence–To develop National and International amateur Judocompetitors–To ensure that all members benefit from the increased co-ordination, stamina, flexibility and strength that a wellstructured Judo program can offer. In 1995 Tohkon developed a "partnership" with theJapanese American Service Committee (JASC) andmoved into their facility. The JASC, United Way Agency, was interested in expanding its role from primarily a SocialService Agency serving the elderly to a CommunityService Agency serving the entire family. This partnershipprovided Tohkon with the resources and space tosignificantly expand its Judo program. Tohkon memberssupport the JASC several times a year by assisting themwith community support programs and providing MartialArts Demonstrations. Since 1995, Tohkon has doubled in size and has drawnseveral World Class competitors with World Championshipand Olympic experience from various countries around theworld. These International players, along with our experi-enced staff of US National and World Team Competitorsprovide Tohkon students with the opportunity to learn andpractice a variety of practical and effective "fighting" styles.
Tohkon Judo Academy, Inc. Is a not-for-profit corporation.
