We immerse ourselves in campus culture to find the intersections where great design can propel the university’s work of engaging the whole student — Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Our research and experience point to six elements, that together, create a vibrant and healthy campus culture. These elements build on the unique traditions that set the university apart from its peers.

CULTURE OF Learning happens everywhere, but it begins in the classroom. Effective

classrooms adapt to innovative teaching methods. They activate and

engage students, and accommodate small group break out sessions.

Dynamic learning spaces harness the opportunities technology provides,

and foster real time creation, visualization, discovery, and exploration.

CULTURE OF Interior and exterior environments enhance the campus

experience by encouraging a healthy life outside the classroom.

and a connection to nature support student well-being and create a

grounding sense of place.

from all sources. Students gravitate to spaces where they find

comfort– eating, sleeping, and playing in places that promote a

personal sense of belonging and inclusivity. Life between classes

is enhanced by spaces that promote independent choice, inspire

the imagination, and encourage socialization.

question why something is the way it is. Whether cultivating

hidden talents, finding new passions, or discovering unexpected

connections between disparate topics, the efforts outside the

classroom awaken creative energy inside the classroom.

making or advancing applied research, learning through

doing in a social environment blends the physical and

analytical worlds with purpose. Successful spaces actively

experimental prototypes for feedback.
