A Family Perspective

By Bud Ozar

“Advice” books abound on marriage and parenting. Jesus tells

us in today’s gospel the real secret: satisfying relationships

depend on how well we sacriKce our needs to serve others. It

is not about “getting,” it’s about “giving” ourselves. If you feel

like you are a servant to your children and spouse, then you

are doing it right.

Safe Environment

The Safe Environment Policy was created to take reasonable

measures to assure that Church personnel who have regular

contact with minors are committed to providing a safe environ-

ment for children and youth, are capable of identifying and

preventing abuse of children, and have no personal history of

behavior that would be a threat to children.

Diocesan Online Database—You may go online to complete

the Safe Environment Requirements

All adults who have regular contact with minors are to complete

the Diocese of Pittsburgh's database application. Once this

application is completed, it will also be used to obtain a

Pennsylvania State Police criminal record check. If you do not

already have the access code, please contact the parish o:ce.

Use the link: https://diopitt.org/parish-volunteers

Phyllis Haney is our volunteer who will be Most Sacred Heart of

Jesus Parish's Safe Environment Coordinator. We are blessed

and grateful for her knowledge, expertise and kind heart!

Thank you all for your service!

Need a Baptismal Certi1cate?

Please Contact the Archives & Records Center

of the Diocese of Pittsburgh:

email [email protected] or call 412-456-3158.

Records have been transferred and are no longer at the parish.

Addiction Recovery Ministry

One of our valuable lessons learned over the past few

generations is that people with similar pain can be very

good for each other. The expansive growth of AA is

probably the largest example, but there are many

others. Anyone who has ever lost a child knows how

helpful others can be who have spent time in a club that

no one wants a membership to. Those that have lost a

family member or friend because of an addiction have a

uniqueness to their grief and thus far, not many groups

have been created for this speci<c pain.

Addiction Recovery Ministry is beginning a grief group

for family members or friends who have lost a loved one

because of overdose or addiction. Our discussion will be

framed by the video, “Among the Many.” We will strive to

offer hope to anyone grieving such a tragic loss.

Our weekly meetings will begin on Tuesday, November 2,

at 7:00 PM and will be held at the Venerable Matthew

Talbot Center for Healing and Hope, located at 2599

Freeport Road in Harmar.

If you have experienced this tragedy, please feel wel-

come. If you know of someone who has experienced this

tragedy, please invite them. If you would like more infor-

mation, please contact Deacon Tim Noca at (412) 793-

4511, ext. 21 or by email at [email protected].

On Mission For The Church Alive!

Father of Mercy, as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! endow us with your gifts of collaboration,

courage and compassion. Help us to ful<ll the mission of Jesus and his Church through vibrant parishes and

effective ministries. Raise up selQess, energetic leaders to serve the Church in <delity and with care.

May we the Church of Pittsburgh in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence and Washington Counties

be sustained and strengthened by your grace. Help us to learn Jesus, to love Jesus and to live Jesus.

Hear this prayer and grant it through Jesus Christ our Lord,

with the help of our dear Blessed Mother, under the mantle of her love.

Amen.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

The Act of Spiritual Communion

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou,

O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan,

and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.
