There are several different positions available and experience in journalism is not required. This is the chance to get the experience that you need to get a jump-start on your future while also serving and supporting your classmates and student body. We have positions available for students interested in writing, photography, advertising, and art design. Please bring resume and apply in person at The Torch’s office, Rm 407 in the Patrick Building next to the cafeteria. QUESTION 3 A Student Government Announcement The Student Government Association, SGA, has decided they would like to sponsor a Person of the Year award at the university. This award is for a teacher, student, or member of the staff who has made a difference or has had a positive impact on the university community. Please submit nominees’ names and a brief essay detailing the impact this person has made on the community to the SGA office in Building 400, RM. 107. Nominees’ names must be submitted before October 23rd. For more information, stop by the SGA front desk. QUESTION 4 New President Selected by Board The Board is pleased to announce the selection of the 23rd president of State University. Matt Tallent has been a part of the State community for years as a business owner and contributor to the university. He will succeed Tom MacMaster who is stepping down as president this year.

QUESTION 1Announcement from the President

QUESTION 4New President Selected by Board

The Board is pleased to announce the selection of the 23rd president of State University. Matt Tallent has been a part of the State community for years as a business owner and contributor to the university. He will succeed Tom MacMaster who is stepping down as president this year. Tallent has recently given over his CEO title of his chain of Kwik Foodz restaurants to his son. The board cited Tallent’s experience as the head of a multi-million dollar corporation as well as his experience with running several charities as the primary reason for selecting him as president.

QUESTION 5A Notice from Public Safety

A new parking policy is being instituted starting next year. Previously, faculty and staff were given first preference of parking passes, then commuting students, then the remaining passes were given out on a firstcome-first-serve basis. This new policy is intended to more fairly and orderly distribute the passes. The university will now give out parking passes by means of a lottery. QUESTION 6Announcement of New Sports Facility

The Alumni Office of Central State University is pleased to announce that construction of a new sports facility will commence this summer. Due in part to a very generous grant from a 1974 alumnus, Jason Chitwood, the new facility will include an indoor basketball court, a swimming pool, an indoor track, and a climbing wall. The groundbreaking ceremony will be on April 7th with construction to begin shortly thereafter. The project is scheduled to be completed by summer of 2009.

QUESTION 7Attention All Foreign Language Students

Starting this semester, all students wishing to use the Foreign Language Lab are required to purchase an access card. No students will be allowed entry to the lab without first purchasing this card. The card is $10 and can be purchased at the school bookstore. The proceeds from this card are being used to supplement the student technology fee, which was used to renovate the lab over the summer. New computers and software, as well as new language tutors, were all part of the renovation.

QUESTION 8Attention! Bookstore Moving!

The university bookstore will be moving to its new location across campus for this Fall semester. The new location of the bookstore will be next to the Delaney Building on Wang street. Construction of the new bookstore will be completed this summer and the store and inventory will be moved and ready for the Fall semester the week of September 4. This location will remain open through the summer, and students will be able to sell their textbooks back after the summer semester here as well.

QUESTION 9Network Sharing Announcement

Due to the recent rise in the usage of on-line student storage space, limits and restrictions are being placed on student spaces. Students are no longer allowed to share music files or video files from their on-line campus storage spaces. Students will have until the end of next week to remove all such files from their online spaces. Also, a cap of 50 mb will be placed on all spaces. Violations of this new policy will result in deletion of your space.

QUESTION 10New Tai Chi Classes! Free!!!

The Student Rec Center has decided to offer free Beginner Tai Chi lessons to all students and staff for the upcoming finals period. For the two weeks before finals starting April 16th and the week of finals, free Tai Chi classes will be available for students at the Rec Center. If you are feeling stressed out for finals, stop by and learn some exercises to help calm you down and relieve stress. Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00AM and 5:00PM, and Thursdays at 3:00PM.
