GOOD afternoon to everyone attending today’s match at Love Lane, including the players, officials and sup-porters from Team Solent and the match officials.
The players deserve enormous credit for claim-ing their third Wessex Premier Division scalp of the season when they beat Fawley in the FA Vase last Saturday.
It was a game they could have won by a few more goals but the performance included not only exciting and excellent attacking play but also good concen-tration when it came to defending as a team, which limited Fawley to very few efforts on goal.
The same kind of performance is going to be need-ed today against a strong Team Solent team. They took six points off of us last season and the game at their place was a pulsating encounter which drew the praise of the watching Wessex League officials.
I’m sure we are in for plenty of entertainment again this afternoon – but this time I am also sure we have the players and game plan to come out on top of an-other exciting encounter.
It is pleasing to see that the club is still attracting plenty of interest from companies and individuals want-ing to support the Rams financially.
The Corporate Partners Club, the new name for the 100-100 Club was drawn last week and the results will be revealed shortly.
There are still plenty of ways to sponsor the club and help us achieve our goal of promotion this season.
Players in the first team, reserves and youth team squads are still looking for sponsors and you can still take out advertising on pitchside boards, in the pro-gramme and on the club’s website.

MANAGER’S notes
I’D LIKE to start by giving a warm wel-come to Team Solent for their visit to Love Lane for our return to league action.
Last week saw the team in FA Vase action and indeed we earned a credible win at Wessex Premier Division Fawley AFC.
The 1-0 victory has set up a tie against Hartley Wintney in the next round – another game against opposition in the level above us to look forward to.
However, back to league matters and our opponents here at the Lane today are very much fancied to win this divi-sion this season.
Always fit and well organised, they are certainly a match for any team in our division and I am sure they will be a very tough test for our newly assembled squad this afternoon.
The squad is still taking shape but we have had a decent start to the season and I am confident the 16 players will give us their all today in what promises to be a tight affair.
We wish all players, staff and supporters from Team Solent all the very best for today.
This game will be only our third league fixture of the season, due to our cup exploits, so we are already playing catch up.
I guess this is one of
the nice problems to have after being successful in some of the cup competi-tions we have entered.
Team Solent were victorious in both our encounters with them last season but
these fixtures are ones we must be looking to win
if we are seriously going to establish ourselves in this division.
Sus
Fixtures like these are the ones we must look to win to establish ourselves in league

East Cowes Vics 1 Petersfield Town 2 (aet)
TRIPS to the Isle of Wight are always difficult but this Hampshire Senior Cup encounter saw the Rams only able to muster 14 players. Injuries, suspensions and work commitments led to only the barest of squads being able to rendez-vous for the ferry crossing.
However, in the end great credit must be given to those who did travel as some of the football played was excellent and in the end cup progression was great reward for a sterling effort.
Petersfield had a tough start against a physically robust Vics team who har-ried and pressed the visitors. Eventually the passing style of the Petersfield side brought dangerous forays into the home team’s defensive third but a number of good opportunities were wasted.
The second half followed the same pattern and it seemed that the fortunes would favour the visitors when a harsh
tackle by an East Cowes midfield player saw a red card brandished and the ad-vantage swung the way of Petersfield, but the deadlock could not be broken in the 90 minutes.
Extra time saw the Rams finally open the scoring when a great right wing cross was headed home by Steve Cammack. However, the hosts levelled soon after following a set piece.
The home keeper made a number of good saves with Petersfield piling on the pressure, although the home team did have one excellent chance to win the game themselves but a great late defen-sive tackle saved the day.
With penalties seemingly on the cards there were seconds remaining when Lewis Hyde scrambled home the winner following a goalmouth melee.
Excellent battle, good passing play and that little bit of luck ensured the Rams will now face Fleet Spurs in the second round.
Late dramatic winner seals Hampshire Senior Cup win

Petersfield Town 5East Cowes Vics 0
FOR THE second time in four days Petersfield faced a tricky East Cowes Vics side.
The Rams welcomed Matt Shortt and Alex Ward back into the starting line-up with Mike Asare and Josh Sheehan added to the bench.
Petersfield started confidently with the slick surface aiding the passing style of the home team.
The visitors are a very dogged outfit and in Giancovich up front they always posed a threat.
The turning point came in the 40th minute when skipper Alex Ward’s power-ful header had beaten the keeper, only
to be handled on the line by a visiting defender, who was shown the red card.
Callum Coker placed home the result-ing penalty to give Town the lead.
Two minutes later saw a second goal when Lewis Hyde smashed the ball through a meleè of players to increase the lead.
The second half started with a scare as Alex Ward was forced off with an injury.
However, this didnt stop Petersfield from racing on to win the game, with Coker completing his hat-trick and Steve Cammack completing the scoring.
Vics also created a few chances of their own but Shortt and his defenders kept their second clean sheet in a week.
Coker’s hat-trick helps Rams maintain their unbeaten start

RAMS news round-up
THE YOUTH team were in action here at the Lane on Wednesday evening when they entertained Chichester City in the FA Youth Cup.
The Young Rams took the lead but went in at half time 4-1 down. The score remained the same at full time after a battling second half performance.
Marching out to a best seller
Young Rams put on proud cup display
IT’S THE fastest selling single in the UK so far this year and it has quickly become the anthem of the season for the Rams.
Wake Me Up by Avicii is the tune the Rams will run out to before every first team game this season.
The song caught on as an anthem during the celebrations following the win at Welton Rovers.
So it is played as the first team take to the pitch as a reminder of victories already enjoyed and as it is a dance track it should also get everyone up for the game about to start – both on and off the pitch.
The song isn’t just popular at Love Lane though – the summer anthem has been number one in 22 countries now and sold around one million cop-ies in the UK alone. Wake Me Up will certainly remind you kick-off time is here each matchday.
AFTER last Saturday’s victory in the FA Vase second qualifying round, the first round proper brings another away trip but this time we head north.
The reward for victory at Fawley is a trip to the north of Hampshire to Hartley Wintney on Saturday, October 19. Kick-off is at 3pm.
With it comes the chance to make history as victory will put the Rams in the second round of the FA Vase – the
furthest the club will have ever got in the competition.
Last Saturday’s win over Fawley was the third Wessex Premier Division side the Rams have beaten this season so far.
In the Hampshire Senior Cup, Fleet Spurs will be the visitors to Love Lane on Tuesday, October 8 – the first team’s next game here at Love Lane.
The first floodlit home game for the first team this season kicks-off at 7.45pm.
Yet another away day in FA Vase

TODAY’S visitors
TEAM Solent is the competitive sporting arm of Sport Solent, the sports depart-ment of Southampton Solent University.
Team Solent teams and individuals compete in a variety of sports, in both inter-university and local, national and international club competitions.
The teams are primarily made up of current stu-dents (totally the case in terms of inter-university competition), but can also include former students, members of staff, and others associ-ated with the university.
The teams are managed and adminis-tered by Sport Solent staff.
In keeping with the university’s sports strategy the sports department decided, in the early 2000s, to integrate their foot-ball programme into the Saturday club structure.
They were accepted into the South-ampton FA, and in their first season they pulled off an unprecedented treble, winning Southampton Junior Division 1, the Southampton Junior Cup and the Hampshire Junior Cup.
Another title followed in the following season when Team Solent topped the Senior Division 1 table, and they were subsequently invited to join the newly
formed Hampshire Premier League for the 2007-8 campaign.
Four seasons in that competition resulted in two runners-up positions and a third place, but although the league pennant eluded them they twice won the League Cup.
They also reached the final of the Southampton Senior Cup at St Mary’s in three successive seasons, winning the competition twice.
Moving to their new facility for the 2011-12 campaign, Team Solent were accept-ed into the Sydenham’s
League (Wessex) and finished third in their first season in Division 1, narrowly missing promotion.
The club and the facility are now suf-ficiently graded for them to enter both the FA Cup and FA Vase.
Their reserve side is currently playing in the Wyvern Combination League, with the Saturday football programme comple-menting and enhancing the university’s progress in BUCS (British Universities) football.
The team is primarily made up of cur-rent students, meaning the changeover in personnel is fairly rapid, but this is an accepted challenge in university sport.
Team Solent is sports arm of Southampton university

EVERY programme this season will fea-ture a story from the files of the Peters-field Post – Petersfield Town FC’s official media partner.
Today we go back to the 1990s and turn our attention on a true Petersfield Town legend.
Club secretary Mark Nicoll has been a regular face at the Lane for over 30 years, and is rightly considered to be one of the best club secretary’s in the Wessex League and non league football in the south.
The picture above shows a young, sprightly looking Nicoll though around 20 years ago – if anything the picture
shows just what the stresses and strains of helping to run a football club will do to you over time!
Mark is also in a pose we will be hop-ing not to see much this season. During the winter months, Mark and his welling-ton boots on show early on a Saturday morning normally mean a game is under threat of postponement.
Certainly wasn’t going to be any play on this frozen and snow covered Love Lane pitch on this day in the 1990s.
Other characters at Love Lane having a good giggle at Nicoll should beware – the archives have thrown up old pictures of other regular faces at the club too.
