Explore Glasgow

Make some time to explore all that Glasgow has to offer during your visit. Check out our top tips:- The Big G

For a keepsake memento of your visit to the city during Games time, make sure you take a selfie at The Big G in George Square – the spectacular 3D installation provides the perfect backdrop. Use #TheBigG

Clyde’s Trail

Look out for Clyde, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth games mascot. There are 25 colourful statues around the city, each dressed in a different outfit designed by Glasgow schoolchildren. Download the free Clyde’s Trail App and see how many you can bag. #clydestrail

Architecture

Don’t forget to look up! Glasgow has some beautiful buildings and architecture, from the stunning Victorian City Chambers to the Gothic drama of Glasgow Cathedral. A must-see is the work of Glasgow born Art Nouveau Architect and Designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh – his magical style is inspirational, from House for an Art Lover to the Willow Tearooms, there’s a Mackintosh experience for everyone.

Shopping

Glasgow has the best shopping in the UK outside of London, with over 1,500 shops to browse round. The city’s Style Mile, located along the interlinked Sauchiehall, Buchanan, Ingram and Argyle streets, is jam packed with malls, department stores, high street retailers and designer boutiques. During Games time, many shops are open to 8pm and some even later – so there are lots of opportunities for souvenir shopping and lots of excuses to treat yourself.

Sides to the City

Discover the individual character of neighbourhood areas such as the entertainment district of Sauchiehall Street, the bohemian West End, the cultural Merchant City or the eclectic South Side.

Eating out

Sightseeing is hungry work – so make sure you re-fuel. Glasgow’s dining scene is as varied as it is delicious. From an indulgent afternoon tea, to a relaxed bar meal or fine dining in a top restaurant, the full spectrum of tastes is catered for.

Museums & Galleries

The city has a fantastic selection of art galleries and museums, most of which are free to visit. Discover world class collections at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, The Riverside Museum, The Burrell Collection and the Hunterian Art Gallery.
