WE PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

PSALM 146

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord, O my soul!

I will praise the Lord as long as I live;

I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

Do not put your trust in princes,

in mortals, in whom there is no help.

When their breath departs, they return to the earth;

on that very day their plans perish.

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord their God,

who made heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that is in them;

who keeps faith forever;

who executes justice for the oppressed;

who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;

the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;

the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the strangers;

he upholds the orphan and the widow,

but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

OFFERING

OFFERTORY ANTHEM (11:00)

"Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ" - Jamaican Folk melody arr. Ellingboe Let us talents and tongues employ, reaching out with a shout of joy: bread is broken, the wine is poured, Christ is spoken and seen and heard. Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound!

Christ is able to make us one, at his table he set the tone, teaching people to live to bless, love in word and in deed express. Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound!

Jesus calls us in, sends us out bearing fruit in a world of doubt, gives us love to tell, bread to share: God (Immanuel) everywhere! Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, you love justice and establish peace on earth. We bring before you the disunity of today's world: the absurd violence and wars that threaten life on this planet; human greed and injustice which breeds hatred and strife. Forgive us for the part we play in sustaining these conditions and we ask that you send your Spirit and renew the face of the earth that we might be compassionate towards the whole human family. - Adapted prayer from Zaire
