of the Wanamaker Organ after Store Hours! Sun. October 14OOur fall private concert benefits our monthly WRTI radio broadcasts and the Friends

Symposium program as the Store marks the 85th anniversary of radio broadcasts of theGrand Court Organ from the store—the first broadcasts of the pipe organ in history!

NOTE: Tickets will be sent by first-class mail in late September according to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Should demand far exceed the space limits of the building, we will attempt to set a seconddate to accommodate those unable to take part. In the event of circumstances beyond our control, the Friends reserves the right to reschedule the event, revise the itinerary or refund the donation. E-mail will be usedonly to alert participants of problems, changes and late developments. Attendees may bring guests and the event is open to the public. The Radio Broadcasts will receive 70% of the net proceeds and the remaining30% will fund the Symposium. Rudy Lucente’s concert is during store hours and anyone may attend at no cost. Donations to the Radio Broadcast Symposium program are unrelated to our membership-renewalprogram, which is crucial to the welfare of the Society. Our special thanks go to Macy’s, to the Curators and Symposium, to our many volunteers and to Peter Richard Conte for making this possible.

Food, libation, music, Halloween merriment—fund-raising for a worthy cause: just $100 per person.

Visit the new Friends Museum, the String Chamber, the Console area and the MainChamber as guests begin arriving around 3 pm.

Hear a Welcoming Concert of mood-setting themes from The Phantom of theOpera by Rudy Lucente at 4 pm

Take a private elevator car to the vast new Wanamaker Organ Shop on 3M at 5:30pm. Awaiting you there is a rich menu of delicious hors d’oeuvres, accompa-nied by fine wines and other beverages, plus special entertainment.

See the Friends new Wurlitzer Theatre Organ being installed above Greek Hall.

Get a personalized Guided Tour of the Shop center as Symposium membersgive demonstrations of the new specialized woodworking and restorationequipment. Meet some of the people restoring the Wanamaker Organ.

Watch curator Curt Mangel give a talk about sample pipes from the beautiful stops ofthe Orchestral Organ that are crated here. Enjoy special entertainment asguests tour the vast Shop facilities and Store nooks and crannies of yesteryear.

Thrill to the evening’s Grand Finale at 7 pm as expectant guests take a private elevatorcar down into the closed Store for that rarest of rare treats: a private concert exploit-ing the utter quiet of the closed store and the thunderous full resources of theWorld’s Largest Playing Pipe Organ. Hear Peter Richard Conte play Bach’sToccata and Fugue in D Minor and his latest transcriptions as the WanamakerOrgan echoes through the rafters! And help us keep our Radio Broadcasts andSymposium programs going forward full speed!

Our Radio Broadcasts and Symposium program need your help! On SundayOctober 14, we’ll be celebrating 85 years of Grand Court Organ broadcasts fromthe Store, all the restoration progress we have made, and the arrival of our newWurlitzer organ in Greek Hall. It’s a major event! You and your friends are invited

to attend a benefit party and Shop tour—and also a special Halloween private concert bene-fitting the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ Symposium Program and WRTI radio broadcasts.Our members requested more of these special concerts, and it’s a rare chance to hear theWanamaker Organ in its full glory!

Indeed, the evening culminates in one of those very rare opportunities to hear all 430 rankscombined into a “perfect Niagara of Sound” in an astounding Grand Finale recital by PeterRichard Conte. It is sure to set the Grand Court awash in thrilling thunder and the gorgeoussoft effects and pastels impossible to appreciate during business hours.

And before that comes quite a party! We promise to keep you entertained and well fed at aspecial private gathering on the Third Floor mezzanine as we tour our huge new Shop facilities,show off our new Wurlitzer teaching instrument and give demonstrations and tours.
