    1/1

Scott has been living with ALS for over

    ten years, gradually losing control

over his limbs and voice. But thanks

to MyTobii P10, an eye controlled

    communication device, he can reach

    out again.

My name is Scott McGuire. Ive beenmarried to my wie, Heidi or 13 years and

we have a 4-year-old son, Gavin. I live at

home and have in-home nursing care. I have

an upbeat personality and Ive always been

outgoing, happy, competitive and a glass-

    hal-ull-type o guy. I enjoy socializing

with riends and amily. I enjoy watching

sports and movies. I used to enjoy outdoor

recreation o all types: mountain biking,

fshing, hiking, yard work. I also enjoyed

    teaching and coaching.

My interests today include watching my

son grow up, working on my computer,

designing all types o media, antasy

ootball, on-line poker, and keeping in touch

with amily and riends through email and

    Facebook.

I was diagnosed in November 97. No

known cause why certain people get

ALS, just lucky I guess. Today I can only

move my ace a little bit. But I still have my

    wits about me!

Its easy to understand the rustration

associated with losing your voice when you

hear Scott talk about his lie.

I cant do anything or mysel. The only

thing I can do is work on my computer

through a mouth switch and when my

mouth stops working, the MyTobii will

be all I have. My major rustration iscommunication.

    Bak seed

Eye control has brought Scott back up to

    speed in his communication, something

that means a great deal to him. He can

now communicate with people outside his

immediate sphere and with much ewer

    misunderstandings. In his own words:

The MyTobii allows me to communicate

with people who dont normally know what

    Im saying.

Some people say that losing the ability

to communicate is like being trapped in

a void. Others compare it to being on

the brink o an explosion. When you live

with a terminal disease or traumatic injury

that permanently strips away your ability

to speak, every lit tle step toward getting

your voice back means a lot.

Scott was overwhelmed by the possibilities

    oered by MyTobii P10.

I couldnt believe it was that easy!

Communicating is now way less taxing and

    less rustrating.

Being able to have meaningul ace-to-ace

interaction is one thing. The other thing

that Scott appreciates is the possibility

to read news, search or inormation,

chat with peers, listen to music, shop

and play games. Through the Internet hehas the same access as everyone else to

entertainment and social interaction. But in

Scotts case, it is so much more valuable.
