    - I can do much more with Tobii C12 thanI could with my previous equipment, asystem where a computer was controlledwith pedals. Now, I can send text messagesand emails, surf the web, use Spotify

and spend time with family and friendson Facebook, says Markus Peterssoncontently.

He quickly adds that none of his assistantsare allowed to read his email if he does notwant them to. A trained ear can understandmuch of what Markus says, but for thosewho are not used to it, discerning his wordsis dif cult.

Since 2009, Markus has lived in his own

disability friendly apartment. When we visithim, his personal assistant, Anitra is there. She is Markuss so called GuaranteePerson and has the primary responsibilityof ensuring that the other assistants workproperly with Markus.

    - With Tobii C12, we have a faster and moresecure way of communicating, as Markuscan reach me 24 hours a day via textmessage, says Anitra.

    vents at birth

Markus was very close to becoming a bigbrother, and had an arm and leg outsidehis mothers womb. However, he was in abad position and had to be pushed backinside in order to be repositioned. Markussbrother then took the opportunity to comeout rst. About a half an hour later, when itwas time for Markus again, complications

arose which led to a lack of oxygen. Thisserious incident resulted in Markus beingborn with a diagnosis of CP. His entire bodyis paralyzed, except for his head.

Markus is in need of assistance around theclock and always has an assistant with himin the apartment. Nevertheless, thanks toTobii, he lives a more independent life thanmost other people in his situation.

Something good for those who wait

After trying out Tobii C12 at a trade show,Markus got the go-ahead to receive Tobiisequipment. In spring 2009, he got his long-awaited Tobii C12 and which strengthenedhis ability to communicate with the outsideworld.

When he tried Tobii C12 for the rst time, his response consisted of one word:Wow!

    - It was so quick to write and was much

better than any other equipment I had triedbefore.

Markus has his Tobii C12 mounted on hiswheelchair, so he can quickly and easily usethe variety of different programs wheneverhe wants.

    - With the Tobii C12, I feel less disabled.Just being able to be normal in someenvironments is a big win in itself, saysMarkus, laughing out loud.
