Bjorn-Andr was born with a muscular

atrophy disease, is confned to an electrical

hospital bed and depends on assistants

    24-hours a day. As a child, he had a

computer that made it easier or him to

write and participate in regular elementary

    school courses. However, eventually

he became unable to use the keyboard,

severely limiting his ability to use thecomputer to communicate.

Its been years since I last had an assistive

    communication device. Beore MyTobii I

depended on my assistants or everything.

Bjorn-Andr was one o the frst people in

Norway to get the chance to test an eye-

    controlled computer.

My immediate impression was that it was

very easy to use. I was sold instantly.

Today, MyTobii is a part o everyday lie or

Bjorn-Andr. MyTobii has given him a great

deal o independence and has also made

    his world a bit bigger.

This computer has given me a brand-

new lie. Now I can do things mysel that I

once needed help to do. The best thing is

that I can use the Internet in the same way

everyone else does. I can download music

and movies, send emails, shop and pay my

    bills.

On the bed is a sticker with the mottoEveryone dies, but not everyone lives. Its

very typical o Bjorn-Andr. He is extremely

positive, intelligent and a quick learner.

    Bjorn-Andr explains how eye control

    works in Windows:

Its very easy, but difcult to describe, he

says and laughs. The mouse cursor ollows

where my eyes are looking. I can stop the

mouse cursor where I want to click just by

ocusing or a ew hundredths o a second.

It is very easy to sur, but writing takesa higher level o concentration. I spend

between 7-8 hours a day on the Internet.

There are a lot o things to do, and I only

    stop when I get tired.

Thanks to his regular use o MyTobii,

Bjorn-Andr is extremely adept at using eye

control. He has a very precise gaze point

and can use a very small screen keyboard.

At our meeting he has the chance to test

a new on-screen keyboard with word

    prediction. It works immediately.

The whole concept is great, he says.

I think people should try MyTobii i they

need an assistive communication device. It

has changed my day-to-day lie and given

me the possibility to do things or mysel.

For me, my private lie and the ability to

communicate is what is important. When

I use my computer its totally private my

    assistants leave the room.

    I g a a ne ife i is me. N
