We saw before that the Lessons page is where you start when you log in. If you choose lessons from the Lessons page that’s fine but you will not be completing the Tasks that your teacher has set for you.

You can try out any lessons from the entire United Kingdom Curriculum which is taught in schools to students from the age of 4 up to 18.

Choose where to start. Knowing where to start is often the hardest part. Most students find that the best place to start is usually on a lesson/topic that they recently studied. You can click on to switch between the UK Curriculum and the Curriculum your teacher has set for you.

Selecting lessons

Pick your school year (‘Year 1’ above)

Choose a stream (‘Number, Patterns and Algebra’ above)

Select a topic (‘Whole Numbers’ above) to view available lessons. The screen will change to a list of lessons in that topic as shown here

Clicking on one of the lessons will take you to the video lesson. See the next page for how the lessons work.

Video and Questions

The video lesson should start once you’ve selected the lesson from the list. You can pause the video at any time by clicking on the video.

You can use the slider at the bottom of the video to pause, rewind or fast-forward the video. You can make the video go full-screen by clicking on the button (Press Esc to exit full-screen mode).

Most lessons are between 2 and 5 minutes long. Video lessons have a teacher who speaks. Listen with headphones plugged in so that you can concentrate on what is said.

Once you have seen the video lesson take a few moments to think about it, then click on the tab.

Click on to get going. Most lessons have ten questions.

You must type in the answers in the boxes shown and click on

Answers are marked right or wrong straight away.

Click on to move on.

You can go back and forth from the video to the questions at any point – the system saves where you got up to.

Some questions have this symbol before them. Click on it to hear the question read out to you.

Once you’ve completed the questions you will get your score displayed and you can even print your results.

Tasks are set for you by your teacher. They should be completed by the time set. Next to the task you’ll see how many days you’ve got to complete it.

The orange dot shows you how many tasks you need to complete.

To start a task, click on the title of the task (highlighted blue).

Your task may be made up of diagnostic tests, lessons or a mixture of both. Diagnostic tests at the beginning of each topic will help to point out gaps in knowledge and suggest which lessons you need to do.

It’s often a good idea to do the diagnostic tests before the lessons.

You can take your time with the tests and lessons. As long as they are completed by the due date you can attempt them when you are ready.

In the image to the right you can see that this task has 3 lessons and a diagnostic test, which the student has completed.

If a pass grade has been set by your teacher for the lessons and you don’t reach it, you must attempt lessons again until you reach the grade.

Clicking on the results tab takes you to a page that displays all of your marks.

Clicking on tabs on this row will show your marks in different ways

Your shows the marks for all of the lessons you have attempted. For each lesson, it shows your rating, your score on the first attempt, your highest score, the number of attempts you had, the number of attempts it took to pass and the date you passed the lesson.

The shows how many lessons you have completed in a topic, your average score for that topic and your score in the topic’s diagnostic test. Summary can only be viewed year by year, by selecting the year from the drop-down box.

The tab shows all diagnostic tests results in one place.

The tab shows the results of all the tasks that have been set.

The tab shows the certificates that you have won. You get awards by completing topics. You can get Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards

The tab shows your best scores in the Speed skills games.

Many of these reports can be downloaded as a pdf and printed off.

The Settings screen lets you change the ‘theme’ of ConquerMaths. The theme is the way in which colours are displayed. You can select dark or light themes by clicking on the coloured boxes.

Dark themes can be useful in low light conditions (at night) and can help save battery power on mobile devices like tablets.

Light themes are best for clear reading in daylight.

Click on to choose background and accent colours. Click to keep your choice.

Enter your address and it. This is important for getting your Username and Password back if you forget them.

Don’t forget to your selections.

In the top right of the screen your ‘Pass mark’ is displayed. This is the score you must get in each lesson to pass it.

Don’t worry if you don’t reach your pass mark in the lessons you try. You can watch the video lessons again and have as many goes at passing any of them as you like.

Your pass mark can only be changed by your teacher or tutor. Talk to them about what is the right pass mark for you.

Clicking on the History tab gives you two other tabs below.

This lists any lessons that you started but didn’t finish. The system remembers where you were up to and lets you continue without having to start it all over again. Simply click on the lesson listed and you’ll be taken straight to the video to have a look at the lesson again. If you want to go straight to the questions and finish them off - you can.

Your timeline is the history of what you’ve done in the ConquerMaths system.

It shows when you logged in, what lessons you viewed, attempted and completed. It also shows if you won a certificate, or completed a game or diagnostic test.

The drop-down box allows you to look at each of the types of things you did such as grouping all the lessons you attempted together.
