1. Explain why this is the only available source that can meet the needs of your department.

Pearson Vue is the sole vendor for purchasing groups of these industry certifications for both the CompTIA and CISCO exam vouchers.

The CISCO website directs the user to the Voucher store at Pearson VUE, where the CISCO vouchers are available.

The CompTIA "store" website directs buyers with these statements: Vouchers are only available for purchase and use at a Pearson VUE test center in North America. If you want to purchase your voucher with a purchase order (PO), please contact Pearson VUE.

2. Explain why this vendor is the only available source from which to obtain this product or service.

Qrhe company has affirmed (memo from vendor is attached) that there is no other source for this item. Our search for possible vendors proved futile; OR

In our dealing with both CISCO and Comp TIA industry, PearsonVUE is their chosen vendor.

3. Explain why the price is considered fair and reasonable.

These are recognized industry certifications from two organization (CISCO and CompTIA), and are highly desirable by employers. As our students progress through the Computer Information Systems AAS degree, they will learn the relevant material and then sit for (and hopefully pass) these certification exams. These certifications validate students' knowledge of the technical material.

Industry certification exam costs can range from -$100-500-$1000 each depending on the exam. These exam prices are considered reasonable, as they range from -$100-$225 each.

CNM has a good working relationship with Pearson VUE. The CompTIA reps are most helpful with our issues and concerns. These certifications are recognized across the country and internationally, and only available for our purchase quantity through PearsonVUE.

Course Description Covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts. The basics of computer

hardware and Network Operating Systems (NOS) technologies are introduced in a lab-oriented environment. This

course prepares students for the CompTIA 220-901 A+ certification exam. Students actively investigate problems

& develop solutions.

Student Learning Outcomes Students completing this course will:

1. Understand the differences between different computer systems, programs and computer types.

2. Explain the differences in features and functions of computer components.

3. Demonstrate an ability to assemble a computer, including preparing, and installing in a step-by-step

process.

4. Explain advanced hardware fundamentals for network servers; including RAID systems, and printers.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of networking fundamentals.

6. Explain the details of the troubleshooting process and the steps to take when there are computer problems.

Attendance/Tardy/Withdrawal/Drop Policies

Attendance Policy:

Active attendance/participation in class is expected, not optional. Attendance in this course is not just

logging into CNM Learn, it also includes completing assignments in TestOut, staying in contact with your

instructor, participating in Email, BB Instant Messaging and/or BB Collaborate.

Students enrolled for credit or audit are expected to participate in the course through CNM Learn. A student who

misses two consecutive week’s activities (as described above) may be dropped from the course.

Students auditing a class must meet course prerequisites, are expected to attend all class sessions, but are not

required to complete assignments. Audit Courses are not eligible for Financial Aid. Audit students are required to

Final Exam:

The Final exam will be given online during the last week of class for the semester. It is a proctored exam based on

the materials covered in the TestOut materials. Strategies to prepare for and materials to review for the final will be

provided at the appropriate time. Final Exam has one attempt and timed.

READ THIS:

Assignment grades will be displayed to the students on Blackboard (CNMLearn) as well as notes

under comments on Assignments. Blackboard (CNMLearn) also displays a running average for

each student. The average is the current average of the assignments that have been completed and

graded. However, if a student is missing an assignment, or if an assignment has not yet been

graded, those “blank” grades are not included in the average. If you don’t turn in an assignment,

the score of 0 is not averaged in until it is assigned as 0. It is the student’s responsibility to keep

track of his/her work and average.

After the week the modules is posted, I will enter zeros into the Gradebook. Once you have completed the

module activity and transferred the grades via the Blackboard link, the zero will be overwritten.

This course focuses on the installation and administration of network communication systems. Students

will learn the general theory of network communications and basic setup, configuration, and management

of network communication protocols on networking devices, including servers, routers and switches.

Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing this course will:

1. Set up a networked computer system, including the operating system, interface cards, and

peripheral devices.

2. Plan and install a small business network and connect it to the Internet.

3. Verify and troubleshoot network and Internet connectivity.

4. Share resources such as files and printers among multiple computers.

5. Recognize and mitigate security threats to a small business network.

6. Configure and verify common Internet applications.

7. Configure basic IP services through a GUI.

Attendance Policy

Students enrolled for credit or audit are expected to attend all class sessions. Instructors will take

attendance. Absences do not relieve students of the responsibility for missed assignments and exams. A

Tardy Policy

To avoid interrupting or distracting the class, students are expected to be prompt for each class. Class

will begin promptly at the time scheduled.

Withdrawal/Drop Policy

A student with excessive absences including ignorance of course work, may be dropped from a course.

Students dropped from a course for non-attendance will be notified at their CNM e-mail address and will

also be dropped from co-requisite courses. If the student disagrees with the action, he or she must contact

the instructor within two working days of receipt of the notification. A student should not assume he/she

Late/Make-up/Re-take Policies Students must start with Pre-test from each module. If students accomplish over 81 % in Pre-test,

students can take Post- test of the module. Otherwise, students must study each module contents to

learn the information offered by the module. There are 16 TestOut modules. Most of TestOut tests

include simulated labs with scenarios, so students must do all labs and take each module quiz to

increase scores after taking Pre-Tests. More you do, the better results at the end of the term.

Attendance/Tardy/Withdrawal/Drop Policies

Attendance Policy:

Students enrolled for credit or audit are expected to attend all class sessions. Instructors will take attendance.

Absences do not relieve students of the responsibility for missed assignments and exams. A student with

excessive absences may be dropped from a course (See withdrawal/drop policy).

Students auditing a class must meet course prerequisites, are expected to attend all class sessions, but are not

required to complete assignments. Audit Courses are not eligible for Financial Aid. Audit students are required to

Tardy Policy:

To avoid interrupting or distracting the class, students are expected to be prompt for each class. Class will begin

promptly at the time scheduled.

Students who arrive to class more than 20 minutes late will be marked tardy. Three (3) tardies will equal one

absence.

Withdrawal/Drop Policy:

A student who misses the first class meeting and has not contacted the instructor, or who misses two consecutive

class meetings in the first week may be dropped from the course.

Students dropped from a course for non-attendance will also be dropped from co-requisite courses. A student

should not assume he/she will be dropped automatically. It is their responsibility to drop/withdraw from the

course in order to avoid a grade of “F.”

Students who are dropped by an instructor for non-attendance will be notified at their CNM e-mail address. The

instructor's decision is final, but if the student disagrees with the action he or she must contact the instructor

within two working days of receipt of the notification.

section below. Late chapter exams can be taken with a 20% penalty by contacting me and requesting

access, with at least 24 hours notice. Online Chapter Exams should be available for completion 24/7,

barring any downtime at the Cisco site. Students may complete them from any location. Failure to

complete an Online Chapter Exam will result in the student receiving a grade of zero (0) for that exam.

Online Packet Tracer Homework Assignments for each week/chapter are due by 11:59PM of the dates

listed in the Tentative Class Schedule section below. Late Packet Tracer assignments can be submitted

through the netacad site and will be graded with a 20% penalty. Failure to complete a Packet Tracer

Homework Assignments will result in the student receiving a grade of zero (0) for that assignment.

Please do not leave your assignments to the last minute as the Cisco site does go through periodic

maintenance and your internet connection may be slow or fail for no apparent reason.

Attendance Policy:

Students enrolled for credit or audit are expected to attend all class sessions. Instructors will take attendance. Absences do not relieve students of the

Tardy Policy: To avoid interrupting or distracting the class, students are expected to be prompt for each class. Class will begin promptly at the time scheduled.

Students who arrive to class more than 20 minutes late will be marked tardy. Three (3) tardies will equal one absence.

Withdrawal/Drop Policy:

A student with excessive absences may be dropped from a course. Excessive Absences is defined as being absent for more than 50% of the class meetings.

Students dropped from a course for non-attendance will also be dropped from co-requisite courses. A student should not assume he/she will be dropped

automatically. It is their responsibility to drop/withdraw from the course in order to avoid a grade of “F.”

Cisco site. Students may complete them from any location. Failure to complete an Online Chapter Exam will result in the student receiving a grade

of zero (0) for that exam.

Online Packet Tracer Homework Assignments are due before midnight on 4/21/2017.

Skills Finals are due per scheduling with the instructor.

VOUCHERS FOR THE ICND 2 EXAM SHOULD BE AVAILABLE DURING WEEK 13 OR 14 OF THE SEMESTER
