After the success of our first edition of “Joy In The Camp” collection it became obvious that even more materials were needed, thus this “Joy In The Camp Continues!” collection. In addition to Christian drama scripts, this greatly expanded collection includes a section of comedy sketches, mime and human videos, monologues, VBS materials, readings and stories and campfire songs. We have also added a section on Camp Activities which we feel will be very well accepted. As requested by many users of the original “Joy In The Camp”, we have added a section called “Sounds ‘n Stuff”, with a collection of sound files and wav files on diskette, for use in your dramas, skits and singing activities. This collection, like all DramaShare materials, is copyrighted and may not be duplicated other than as outlined herein. The original purchaser of this material is authorized to duplicate any of the material in this booklet for use in the group activities of the original purchaser. DramaShare assists the Christian drama ministry programs over 3,800 churches, colleges and other Christian groups in 49 countries around the world, with manuals, training and other resources, mainly via the internet from our large web site. We invite you to visit this, the world's most visited Christian drama web site, and to download resources you will find there. Camp is a time for skits with comedy and fun. However the real reason for a Christian camp is to teach the message of Jesus Christ. To fail to use Christian drama as a teaching tool is to lose an opportunity to minister to the young minds attending camp. And it is with this intent in mind that “Joy In The Camp Continues!” is offered. Our prayer is that God will bless your camping ministry, dramatically!

Who Am I?

One very useful camp drama project is to assign a Bible character to each camper, (i.e. Moses). It may well be that several different persons may take on the same character as this will help develop new and unique perspectives of Bible characters. Take care to develop an open and inquisitive atmosphere around this project. It should be made very plain to all participants that while the intent is to allow participants to use their creative abilities, this project is not meant to be a stage to showcase theatrical abilities. The bottom-line reason for the project is to facilitate Bible study and studying of God's word. If some participants should find hidden acting or writing abilities as a result of the project, this is strictly an extra bonus. It will be the project of the individual to thoroughly research the character and to develop a monologue based on that character. In developing this character think of:

background of the individual temperament age stature and carriage social and economic standing health family influences outside influences all other influences which would have an impact on that character.

On a given day each camper will be encouraged to present their monologue showing the character which they have developed. (An alternative is to have one or more persons from each cabin present monologues which have been created by the group). With support and assistance from counselors this may well prove to be a very positive experience, one which shall stay with the camper throughout their lives.

“ME FIRST” Man’ s Voice:

Okay, major problem, but I can handle it! I’ve had problems before and I know what I should do! Yes, I have to be independent on this! I really don’t need God with this one. I can take care of it on my own! (Pauses) Sure, I follow God and all, but you really don’t need to keep asking him for help all the time, only when I really need it! I pretty much do what I want, and only call on god when I’m really in deep! That’s when He comes in handy!”

Busy & Growing Section

Just no doubt about it! Keeping a camp full of youngsters busy is a major chore, some would even say “Mission Impossible”! To compound the problem, your kids aren’t at camp just to be busy and doing things, they are there to learn and to grow, as

persons and also in their knowledge and understanding of Christian life. Probably the toughest thing for a camp leader is finding new activities which will challenge the young camper, maintain interest and develop an inquisitive mind into knowledge in general, but especially into Christian knowledge. In this section you will find a wealth of activities, games and learning ideas, everything from “Foil

Faces” to “Bumper Butts”! And though some are pretty much “off-the-wall”, there is always a section called “Linking Ideas”, where object lessons can be taught

using the fun activity. (There are many activities for the quieter times as well).

This “Busy and Growing” section of Joy In The Camp has been put together mainly using materials developed by Ken

Sapp who is from Singapore. Ken has kindly agreed to our use of this material. If you have questions regarding any materials in this section

please contact Ken by sending an email to [email protected] So then, let’s get started, keeping your flock “busy and growing”!

Reading - Psalm 16 - Your Goodness to Me

DramaShare Readings are designed to be done as readings or as memorized works, with or without actions. No special props or lighting required. Participants should thoroughly research the portion of the Bible from which the reading is drawn in order to be familiar with any hidden meanings. These readings will usually use three particpants:

The first will read the King James Version, (KJV), translation of verse #1, identified as "1 a)" in the script. Next the second participant will read the New International Version, (NIV), translation of verse #1, identified as "1 b)" in the script. Finally the third participant will read a contemporary version of verse #1, identified as "1c)" in the script. Following this the first participant will read verse #2, (2 a), etc.

Reading:

1 a) Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. 1 b) Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. 1. c) Dear God, Accept this, my prayer of thanksgiving to You, for the perfect relationship which You have granted to me.

2 a) O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; 2 b) I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." 2. c) Father God, I am totally dependant on You for all that is good in life. 3 a) But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. 3 b) As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. 3. b) What a delight, O Father, are the other Christians which You have supplied to support me. Saints! Saints are those people touched by Your Holiness, Father, and I thank You for bringing them into my life. No one can be saintly or holy apart from You God for only You are holy. And only by our right relationship in You can we share in this Holiness.

A Woman Called Noah

Did you know that there is more than one Noah in the Bible? Everyone knows of Noah and the Ark and the flood. But in Numbers 27:1-11 we hear of another Noah. And this Noah was . . . . a WOMAN! This monologue investigates what it could be like to have the same name as a very well known person, the kind of pressures this might create and, alternatively, the kind of advantages to be gained, the doors that may be opened by carrying a name from the past. In this monologue this same theme then develops into a consideration of how we in our age are also known by a name from the past. As Christians, (literally "Christ's ones"), we are "using" Christ's name. Are we properly aware of the pressures which this should place upon us to attempt to live up to the one whose name we carry? And do we sufficiently consider the advantages which are ours in claiming the name of Christians. Pronunciation, meaning & background NOAH - THE WOMAN : No`ah {no-aw'}Noah = "motion" (one of the 5 daughters of Zelophehad) NOAH - THE MAN: Noach {no'-akh}Noah = "rest" The Noah of Numbers was one of five daughters born to Zelophehad, a great - great grandson of Manasseh, the son of Joseph. Zelophehad died having no sons to carry on his line. It was normal in situations such as this for a man's brother to take his widow as his wife and to provide a son who would then inherit the dead man's rightful portion. However in this case the daughters of Zelophehad took their case to the Israelite leaders and asked that they, the daughters should have the same rights of inheritance as would a son. Moses took their request to the Lord and the Lord instructed that the inheritance be given to the daughters. The only stipulation was that the daughters must marry within their own clan in order that the land given to them when they arrived in the Promised Land be kept within the clan and family. In this way no inheritance in Israel would pass from tribe to tribe, since it was demanded that every Israelite should keep the tribal land inherited from his forefathers. (These were the commands and regulations the LORD gave through Moses to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho). Bible References: Numbers 27:1-11 and 36:1-13.

Props No props required. Costumes Noah should be dressed in period costume. Use bright colors to indicate an outgoing character.

Prayer – Doing Grace

What are we thankful for? Monologue with offstage voice. No special props, sets, costumes, lighting or sound. Have a table at center stage with a coke and a bag of chips. Actor sits down at table, picks up food, goes to eat then hesitates, looks up, quickly gets into praying position. Ginny: For what I’m about to eat, Lord, make . . . . God: Looks like junk food to me; let’s see, there’s chips, a coke, . . . . Ginny: I beg your pardon! Just who asked you to butt in? Who are you anyways? God: Me, butt in? Who am I? Ginny: Little Sir Echo, aren’t you? Now, then. You are, who, exactly? God: Read the message over your table. Ginny: The what? God: Table. You know, the one you’ve got your elbows on right now. Ginny: What gives with your comments? After all, you’re not my father! God: A lot of folks would challenge you on that, but I’ll let it go for now. Now,

then, you were asking me who I am. Ginny: Yah, and you were talking some mumbo-jumbo about a message over my

table. God: Look up. Look way up! On the wall. Ginny, looks upward: Oh, that, the wall sign. Dad gave me that when I left home. God: What does it say? Ginny: Say? God: And now who’s the echo? Ginny: Well, it says, “Dear heavenly Father, give us this day our daily bread.”

Divine Upgrade By Rich Anderson

Run with person sitting at computer and offstage voice, or with two actors at computers Service Rep: Hello, you have reached the "Heart Systems Software Company" help

desk. How may I help you? Customer: I just received your latest program, LOVEv4.0...you know . . the freeware.

I don't understand it. Can tell me how to install it? Service Rep: Sure thing ma'am. Do you have installation disk and instructions handy? Customer: Yes I do, but first can you tell me what the program does? Service Rep: Sure thing ma'am. LOVE is a unique program, there is no other like it in

the world. LOVE attaches to your operating system and runs silently in the background, you will never see LOVE on your monitor or your toolbar, but you will notice its affect on every application you may have. It makes the good programs run smoother and greatly restricts or deletes bad ones.

Customer: Wow! Sounds great! How does LOVE make my machine run smoother? Service Rep: Well, good sound files, like COMPLIMENT.WAV,

ENCOURAGEMENT.WAV, and KINDWORD.WAV will play frequently. Also, FORGIVENESS.EXE will be invoked every time there is an external violation, including the ever- popular syntax errors. Also, all those aggravating errors that say “unable to connect" will be avoided. LOVE allows for a smooth connection with external devices, regardless of country manufactured in, brand name, or age of the model.

Customer: That's exactly what I need, my machine has been isolated for too long.

But what about the bad programs? CS Rep: Good question. LOVE searches your memory for programs like

HATE.COM, BITTERNESS.EXE, SELFISH.COM, and SPITE.EXE. These programs can’t be entirely deleted off your hard drive, but LOVE overpowers those programs. LOVE stops their commands from being executed and runs its own instructions. You will no longer hear INSULT.WAV and you won't be able to write with the fonts "BADWORDS12" or "HARSHNESS10".

Customer: That's a fantastic program you have. Are the upgrades free too? CS Rep: They sure are ma'am.

THE CRICKET AND THE COIN

Scene & Characters A busy intersection in a major local city. Any number of characters, (preferably six or more), are on stage at all times. They are dressed in normal street attire: some in business suits and carrying briefcases, others dressed as vacationing tourist / sightseers with cameras around their necks, others in casual attire, some may be dressed as delivery people, etc. Have one person, (may be male or female), dressed in old, shabby costume as a street bum. Conduct of Characters All characters except bum and tourists are standing together waiting for "Walk" light. When it comes on they will move quickly in kind of a wide circle, ending up back where they started, waiting for another Walk light. The tourists are "acting like tourists", taking pictures of everything, pointing up at "skyscrapers", looking in store windows. The street bum is surveying the crowd for the most likely "mark", then cautiously approaching this person. Props Have a street light complete with street signs. Use the street signs for a busy street corner in a major local city. (i.e. Portage & Main, Robson & Granville, Yonge & Bloor, etc.). If possible have the street light working so that the "Walk" and "Don't Walk" shows to the audience. Make a tape of city noises: horns honking, sirens, street peddlers selling their wares, policeman's whistle, someone hailing a taxi, etc. Script Lights are all off. In the darkness the "Don't Walk" sign comes on. Start tape with street noises. Gradually the house lights come up. The crowd is waiting for the light to change. Allow street sounds to play for a minute before lines are spoken. Before lines are started bring down the volume of street sounds in order that lines can be clearly heard. Bum approaches Mark 1: Hey mister (lady). Can ya spare some change? Mark 1 scowls, shakes head, looks back at traffic light. Pause another 30 seconds while the only action will be the bum looking around, trying to decide who to approach next. Walk light comes on. All actors move ahead in a kind of orderly confusion in a wide circle. One will gesture angrily at an imaginary car: Hey! Watch it buddy! Just cause

you're driving a Beamer! The Don't Walk light comes on. The actors will continue on, ending up back where they started at the same corner. Actors stand waiting for a walk light. The bum will again will survey the crowd for a receptive mark.

You check to see that you have no broken bones, shake your head, wonder what you did to deserve all this. And you walk back home. Somehow the day isn't so nice after all! The Camp Cook Narrator says: The camp cook has resigned. She had to go home to be with her family. All of us will have to take turns cooking the meals now. I want all us of to stand and get some practice as a camp cook. First let's wash our hands. Lots of soap and water. Now then, to the kitchen. You have to chop some wood for the fire. Careful! You almost took off your finger! Now then, some more wood. A little more! That's enough. Now put the wood in the stove. There, now to light the fire. Get a match, light it. Now hold the fire to the paper. What's wrong with the paper? Must be wet. Look out! You are going to burn your fingers. Now try another match. That's it, the fire is going now. Go to the cupboard and get the frying pan. Man, it's heavy! Ouch! You dropped it on your foot! That smarts! Where were we now? Oh yes. We need the eggs out of the frig. You need to break an egg into the frying pan and place the shells in a bowl. OK, careful now! Break the first egg. Another egg. And another. We will need to be much faster at cooking or we will never be able to feed all of us. So quicker now! Break another egg. And another. And another. And another. Faster! Faster! Oops, as you lift an egg out of carton it falls on the floor, breaks. Get a paper towel and clean up the floor. While down on the floor you smell smoke. You look up and the eggs are burning. You quickly lift the frying pan off the stove. As you set the pan down on the stove the grease spatters on your hand, burning you. You pull your hand back, examine it. Get the first aid kit out of the cupboard, apply ointment and bandage to your hand. Who's that? (Leaders name), is calling. S/He says that you are late with breakfast. Everyone is waiting. And they are getting very impatient! This cooking at camp is not as easy as it seemed!

Lord, I Lift Your Name On High – Human Video

As described by Jeff Boxerman

I have seen and used hand motions to this song, but keep in mind this is only one way of doing it and it's kinda hard to put into words. It would be much easier to just show you! However, I will do the best I can. I've have been at some places where they use hand motions to just the chorus, but I have also seen motions for the verse. I will give you both and you can decide what you want to use. Lord, I lift your name on high - Simply bring arms up and raise hands to the Lord Lord, I love to sing your praises - Place both hands over your heart. I'm so glad you’re in my life

- Lightly touch your chest two or three times with your fingertips. I'm so glad you came to save us - Extend your arms straight out from your shoulders to the side resembling a cross You came from heaven to earth - Place both hands over your head with palms facing away from you. Your elbows should be slightly bent move them in a clockwise fashion till they are in front of your waist. If you can imagine a clock, your hands go from the 12 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position. To show the way - Cross hands with palms facing up and then swing your arms out to your side. From the earth to the cross - Hands come together at your waist with palms facing down to represent earth. Then make fists with your hands and then cross your arms in front of your chest to make an "X". My debt to pay - Keep you right hand in a fist and pound (not too hard mind you) your left hand a few times. From the cross to the grave - This is just the reverse movement of "From the earth to the cross". You start with making fists and arms cross to make an "X" and then uncross your arms, unball your fists and place hands in front of your waist with palms facing down. From the grave to the sky. - You’re going to place your hands as if holding a shovel. Both hands make fists, but the left hand has the palm facing up and the right is with palm facing down. You're going to mime shoveling twice in front of your waist. If you really wanna get into it, when you move your hands to the right to take the shovel "back", you sway yout hips to the right and when take the shovel

The SS Zark©

Children’s drama on Noah and the Ark Cast: 8 speaking parts and crowd scene Uses a great deal of miming out action in the songs and also in the words. Sound and lighting: Standard Costumes: Standard, actors might wear a headband or decoration to show which animal they are Script As drama opens, Zarky is miming that s/he is in the water, gently bobbing from side to side, arms outstretched. Zarky: Mmm, ahhhh, what a lovely day to be a boat! Sun shining down, just a

light breeze blowing across the water to keep me cool. Mmmmmm! pause, looks up, then slowly down to shoulder as “bird lands on shoulder”

Zarky: Hi, Mrs. Sea Gull, looking fine today! Zarky “notices the audience”, reacts Zarky: Sorry, didn’t see you there! I’m the good ship SS Zark. But all my

friends just call me Zarky. You can too, if you’d like. Was just resting here at anchor, in the water. Thinking about how lovely the day is. Had a little rain shower little while ago. (takes deep breath) Mmmm, don’t you just love the smell of the fresh air after a rain!

(points up in the sky) See way up there? See God’s promise up there in the sky. (pause) You don’t know about God’s promise? (points up in the sky) See, the rainbow? Way up there. All of the beautiful colors! Well, that rainbow is God’s promise. God promised there would never send a flood again, and . . . . . Hey, maybe I could sing this song and tell you all about the rainbow? Ok, listen up here!

Zarky, sings: God sent a sign.

It was a rainbow. He knew in time That we would understand. High in the sky His arc of promise His love for us Just keeps on flooding down.
