To Parents and Carers, TERM 2 WEEK 8 Hello CFS Family In recent weeks we have seen some very immature behaviour from our Year 5/6 students. We understand that there is a lot of pressure on children these days. They face a constant bombardment of conflicng values and atudes through social media, internet fads and an internaonal peer group, and have easy access to technologies that were the stuff of science ficon when we all went to school. On top of all this they are growing up and trying to figure out who they are and where they want to go. It can be a confusing me and children at this age are bound to make the occasional bad choice. It is from this viewpoint of tolerance and understanding that we can idenfy bad habits and atudes pervading the Year 5/6 cohort and we have a strong convicon that we need to do something about it. At all mes our students, and especially our Year 5/6 students, are expected to follow the CFS way. Respect, Do your best, Responsibility, Fair go, Care and Compassion are the values that we hold dear at CFS and whilst children are allowed to make mistakes, we expect them to use the school values to reflect upon their acons and learn from these mistakes. Of greatest concern is the constant bickering and In-fighng between the children which pervades all aspects of the school day, and is having a significant impact on learning me. We have established a new regime of very strict and precise behaviour standards and consequences for inappropriate behaviours in Year 5/6 and this was launched on Tuesday morning. Thus far the Year 5/6 cohort has responded magnificently and all staff have commented on how pleasant the 5/6 area has become. I will be sending a leer home to all 5/6 parents this week to inform them of the behaviours we have been dealing with and the ongoing consequences should these behaviours connue. Hopefully the remainder of the term will be as posive and pleasant as the start of this week. We are delighted to be able to inform families that our Athlecs Carnival will be held on Friday 26 June! This is the last day of the term and we are hoping that it will be a really great day for all our children and their families. I see it as a celebraon of our successful coronavirus measures and our happy and healthy lives amidst our glorious dry season weather! We welcome all families to come and join us on what promises to be a fantasc day. It will be very important to remember the requirements for social distancing during the Athlecs Carnival. We are blessed with wide open space and it should be easy to maintain a 1.5 metre distance from each other. There will be reminders given throughout the day and we will put in place measures to ensure everybody has access to safe drinking water and shade. I look forward to seeing you there! Jeff

To Parents and Carers,

TERM 2 WEEK 8

Hello CFS Family

In recent weeks we have seen some very immature

behaviour from our Year 5/6 students. We understand

that there is a lot of pressure on children these days.

They face a constant bombardment of conflicting

values and attitudes through social media, internet fads

and an international peer group, and have easy access

to technologies that were the stuff of science fiction

when we all went to school. On top of all this they are

growing up and trying to figure out who they are and

where they want to go. It can be a confusing time and

children at this age are bound to make the occasional

bad choice.

It is from this viewpoint of tolerance and understanding

that we can identify bad habits and attitudes pervading

the Year 5/6 cohort and we have a strong conviction

that we need to do something about it.

At all times our students, and especially our Year 5/6

students, are expected to follow the CFS way. Respect,

Do your best, Responsibility, Fair go, Care and

Compassion are the values that we hold dear at CFS

and whilst children are allowed to make mistakes, we

expect them to use the school values to reflect upon

their actions and learn from these mistakes.

Of greatest concern is the constant bickering and

In-fighting between the children which pervades all

aspects of the school day, and is having a significant

impact on learning time.

We have established a new regime of very strict and

precise behaviour standards and consequences for

inappropriate behaviours in Year 5/6 and this was

launched on Tuesday morning. Thus far the Year 5/6

cohort has responded magnificently and all staff have

commented on how pleasant the 5/6 area has become.

I will be sending a letter home to all 5/6 parents this

week to inform them of the behaviours we have been

dealing with and the ongoing consequences should

these behaviours continue.

Hopefully the remainder of the term will be as positive

and pleasant as the start of this week.

We are delighted to be able to inform families that our

Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 26 June! This is

the last day of the term and we are hoping that it will

be a really great day for all our children and their

families. I see it as a celebration of our successful

coronavirus measures and our happy and healthy lives

amidst our glorious dry season weather!

We welcome all families to come and join us on what

promises to be a fantastic day.

It will be very important to remember the requirements

for social distancing during the Athletics Carnival. We

are blessed with wide open space and it should be easy

to maintain a 1.5 metre distance from each other.

There will be reminders given throughout the day and

we will put in place measures to ensure everybody has

access to safe drinking water and shade.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Had ranger pat visit to tell them all

about the history of nitmiluk.

The students had to come up with

their own questions to ask Ranger

pat.

It was a fun, exciting, interactive

learning day.

Thank you ranger pat.

5/6 SCIENCE

WITH Mr. Dean

In science this term the year 5/6 classes have been learning about chemistry by way of the unit Change Detectives. In this simple but effective practical they cut up and boiled some red cabbage to make a red cabbage indicator. When added to typical household liquids the juice changes colour to show (indicate) whether the liquid is an acid, base or neither; but is instead neutral. In an acid the cabbage juice (indicator) typically goes red, but dark green, blue or purple in a base and light green if the liquid is neutral.

Xavier, Fred and Quinn working

together to use air pressure and a straw to

transfer some indicator to a liquid sample.

Definitely red so an

acid.

Xavier doing what all

good scientists and

science students do;

recording his results.

PACKAGE IT BETTER

Last week all 3/4 science classes investigated the properties of various

packaging materials using a biscuit dropped from different heights.

This week they had to look into how the design of a bridge using a single sheet

of A4 paper, influenced the strength of the bridge.

We talked about variables in science experiments and agreed on everyone using a 15 centimeter book span for the bridge and all marbles of the same size as weights. The marbles were added to a small plastic cup one at a time until the bridge collapsed and its bottom touched the table top. Nate and Declan’s

design was a clear winner; their bridge design able to hold around 19 marbles.

NEWSLETTERS - will be distributed Fortnightly - Weeks 2,4,6,8,

Rochelle and Bethany;

proud of their bridge and

confident it will hold up

under the pressure of their

marbles.

Everyone making sure their bridges are ready for the class demonstration.

Matt and Junior very pleased with their design.

Winners are grinners; Nate and Declan’s design an easy winner with 19 marbles. A long triangle along each side did the trick.
