School Governors and Governors' Meetings
Mr. Anthony Lancett was re-elected as Chair of Governors and Mr. Keith Hatfield was elected
as Vice Chair. Mrs. Anthea Tennant-Eyles was appointed as a Local Authority Governor. Miss
S. Powell and Mrs. S. Lloyd resigned as parent governors.
Full Governors' Meetings were held each half term. Staffing and Finance sub-committee
meetings were convened at appropriate times throughout the year. A range of issues was
discussed at Governors' Meetings including policy review, finance, monitoring standards,
strategic planning, curriculum and pupil and staffing issues.
In 2015/2016, governors reviewed the following policies: Personal and Social Education; Extra-
Curricular Activities; Food, Drink and Fitness; Capability Policy and Procedures; Bereavement;
Safeguarding; Child Protection; Positive Behaviour; Anti-Bullying; Health and Safety; ALN, SEN
and Inclusion; Attendance; Curriculum, Teaching and Learning; Sex and Relationships; Race
Equality; Emergency Inhaler Use.
The School Self-Evaluation Report was submitted to the Local Authority in September. Progress
with the School Improvement Plan was monitored at each meeting. A summary of priorities
for the 2016/17 School Development Plan is included as an Appendix to this report.
The Autumn Term Review, conducted by the Local Authority and nominated governors, was
held in November, 2015. Standards and Provision, also Leadership and Management, were
judged to be a strength of the school.
The Equality Plan (2012-2016) was reviewed and evaluated in Summer 2016. It was monitored
regularly. The main targets of the Plan were: to promote gender equality in all areas of school
life; to review the school’s policies for Positive Behaviour and Anti-Bullying; to increase pupils’
awareness of other cultures and religions; to raise awareness of equality and diversity amongst
governors. The new Equality Plan (2016-2020) has identified the following targets:
a. To ensure the diverse needs of all our pupils are met;
b. To ensure effective partnership working and communication of policy and practice to
parents;
c. To improve provision at break-times and lunchtimes to improve the well-being of pupils;
d. To improve communication with parents of EAL children.
The school governors have continued to monitor progress with the Action Plan following the
Estyn Inspection of April, 2011. Recommended areas were:
Extend the good features in pupils' attainments at the end of KS2;
Strengthen pupils' Welsh language skills;
Extend the good practice in marking more consistently across the school;
Provide more opportunities for the younger children to make regular use of ICT skills.
Progress in all areas has been good.
Minutes of the Governors' Meetings and school policies are available at school.
Governor links with classes and curriculum areas have continued to develop well.
Parents’ Meetings with Governors
Parents have the right to petition three meetings per annum with the governing body if
sufficient numbers of parents request that such meetings take place. Information about the
procedure to follow is available for parents from the school office.
John Beddoes Catchment Area
The school has maintained good links with all schools in the Cluster. The Acting Headteacher
has worked with Cluster colleagues to review and develop the curriculum.
