DEPT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING
ISSUE 14 19 SEPTEMBER 2012
To our wonderful Driver
Community for contributing to the
success of our International Food
Festival
PAGE 2 ISSUE 14
Open Night
We had a great turnout last night with 20% more families attending than during previous, more traditional parent interviews. We’d like to send a huge thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the evening a huge success. It was great to see the students being “teachers” and leading their families through what they have been learning this year. If you require a one on one meeting with the class teacher, please feel free to arrange a
time over the next week with them (as many families did last night).
Council Members
We still have 5 vacant parent position ( including a preschool rep ) that need to be filled. If you are interested in joining council, we meet on the third Wednesday of every month, from 7-8:30pm in the community room.
Provision for kids to read or watch a movie in the library is available while the meeting is on.
2012 and 2013 Term Dates
This year, Department of Education schools, will be finishing classes a day earlier - on Thursday 13 December. This will allow teachers to return to work a day earlier to prepare for classes to start on Tuesday 29 January next year (the 28th is the Australia Day public holiday). Therefore: The last day of school this year will be Thursday 13 December 2012. Teachers will return to school on Friday 25 January 2013 for their usual professional development day. Students will return to school on Tuesday 29 January 2013. The earlier completion and start dates will help ensure a more settled start to 2013. If you have any concerns or queries please contact the office on 89359000. Further details can be found on the Department of Education
website: www.det.nt.gov.au
Heating of Student’s food
Due to safety reasons, we will not heat children’s food at school. There is too much risk of the child or other children getting burnt. Therefore we ask that you do not send your child to school with food that needs to be
heated or noodles/soups that needs hot water added.

Defence Family Update
Wow! Can you believe how fast this term is going and how busy we have been? Last
week consisted of the International Food Festival, the boys Haka team practiced really
hard for their performance there, the Tournament Of the Minds teams represented the
school on the weekend and Solid Circus on Monday was great fun for all. The children
are really enjoying themselves and I am lucky to have been out and about to take photos
of them at various events.
Defence is conducting its second national survey of Defence families. The survey will
canvass how military service affects ADF families' quality of life, and anyone who
participates in the survey can elect to go in the draw for one of five $300 shopping
vouchers. The survey will be available from 3 September to 21 October 2012 on the
DCO website, http://www.defence.gov.au/dco/ . If you wish to have a paper survey
mailed to your home address contact our messaging service on 02 6127 2153.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My hours at Driver are
Monday and Tuesday from 8am – 2:30 pm. I can be contacted on 8935 9000 or by
email on [email protected]
Regards,
Cazz Smith
