To get some ideas about five senses: sight, hearing, tastes, smell and touchTo learn how some people live, communicate each other and make great achievements even if they lose the ability to use one of their senses
1. With what do we see and hear?We see with our eyes and hear with our ears.
2. How do we know whether a dish is delicious?
We taste it with our tongues.
3. How do we know that a flower has a pleasant smell?
We smell it with our noses.
Think about the following questions.
4. What do we do when we want to know whether the water in the basin is hot or cold?
We put our hands in the water to feel it.
5. How do we know about the world around us?
We usually use our five senses. They are sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.

Sometimes our senses affect one another. Can you give some examples?

The senses of taste and smell are linked to one another. Often the loss of one will result in the loss of the other.
If your nose is blocked from a cold, you may find the food is tasteless.

Can blind people read? And how?
The blind can read by touching raised dots which represent numbers and letters. This system is called Braille.
When one of the senses fails, other senses become stronger.
How do the deaf communicate with each other?
The deaf can communicate by body language or sign language.
1. What can you see in picture one? 2. Are the two lines of the same length in picture 2? 3. Can you prove that the two lines in picture 3 are straight? 4. How can you read line b in picture 4?
1. When looking at the white part, we can see a vase, but
two faces when looking at the black part.
2. We can measure the two lines with a ruler or use two pieces of paper to cover both ends of the two lines. The answer is the two lines are the same length.
3. Place a ruler next to the lines or use a ruler to draw more straight lines which run parallel to the two lines. Then we’ll know the answer.
4. For line b in picture 4 we can read them as the letters K, B, R and M, or K, 13, R and M.

Why are people misled ( 误导 ) by their own eyes?
Because the background or other lines confuse the eyes. Also, what we expect to see can change what we see. Actually, the brain is confused and not the eyes.
