It wasfirst used by Erich Fromm to describe a psychologicalorientation of being attracted to all that is alive andvital. The Definition of Environmental Education

The education process with the goal of improving the environment.

It is a education process of clarifying concepts and value formation.

It is the required skills and attitudes for people to understand the interrelation between human beings,cultures and other living organism and environment.

It also teaches people the principles how to make decisions and develop personal behaviors when facing environment related issues.

Goals of Environmental Education The goals of environmental education are to

develop a world population that is aware of and concerned about the total environment and its associated problems, and develop a sense of responsibility and commitment to work individually and collectively towards a solution for current problems and the prevention of new ones.

As shown in the continuum, environmental information, by itself, only addresses awareness and knowledge. Environmental outreach involves information dissemination and requests or suggestions for action (often without the critical thinking, problem solving and decision making steps in between). Environmental education covers the range of steps and activities shown in the continuum -- from awareness to action with an ultimate goal of environmental stewardship.
