The Commissioner for Children and Young People’s office is turning 10! To celebrate, Commissioner Colin Pettit is inviting Year 4 students from all over the State to share what it’s like to be 10 years old in WA. Expressions of Interest are now open for Year 4 class teachers to register students in the We Are 10 project in Term 3. What is involved? Teachers will receive a pack of resources and links to information that will help students explore what’s great in their lives, what is sometimes difficult, or what they would like to change. Using a supplied template, students will be invited by the Commissioner to create an artwork and explain in 25 words or less what being 10 years old in WA is like. Teachers will be asked to send the students’ artwork to the Commissioner in supplied reply paid envelopes in August.

What will the Commissioner do with the students’ artwork? The Commissioner will showcase students’ artwork and views on his website and in towns around WA from December. The Commissioner will also write back to thank all participating students and one student from each of the eight major regions within WA will be chosen to receive special recognition and win a brand new GoPro video camera!
