Term 4 Week 4 Thursday 8th November, 2018

Crazy Hair Day

Our SRC held a Crazy Hair Day in support of one of our

students, Rebecca T. Rebecca, a Stage 2 student,

bravely had her hair cut & donated her long locks to

be made into a wig for people with Alopecia or who

have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Rebecca has a number of people in her family

suffering cancer. All money raised has gone to

Rebecca's fundraising drive for the Cancer Council.

One of our teachers Mrs Abbott decided to support

her and have her hair cut as well. The SRC sold tickets

to the students for the privilege of cutting Mrs

Abbott’s hair. Tickets were also drawn for students to

decorate other teacher’s hair and Rebecca was

allowed to decorate the Principal’s hair.

Students were encouraged to come with a crazy hair

style for a gold coin donation. $660 was raised from

the raffle and the Crazy Hair Day and this was donated

to Rebecca’s charity.

We are very proud of Rebecca for taking on this

initiative.

She has raised over $4000 in total for the Cancer

Council.

Gwandalan PS Wellbeing Procedures Review

Teachers have been reviewing our school Wellbeing

Procedures. It is now time to have parents assist us in

this process. Our Wellbeing Procedures include

student rewards, student leadership, PBL procedures,

Discipline, Anti Bullying etc. This will take a number of

meetings and you are welcome to attend all or any of

these meetings. The first meeting will be next

Thursday 15th November at 8.15am. The following

meeting will be Thursday 22nd at 8.15 am.

Further meetings may need to be held next year. If

you are unable to attend but would like to have input

you are welcome to call into the office and get a copy

of the procedures and send back written feedback.

We will place the draft procedures on our website as

well.

Anti-Bullying

We are currently working hard to eradicate bullying at

this school. Teachers are currently conducting lessons

on Anti-Bullying and we are speaking to students at

Assembly. I have asked for our policy and school plan

Arriving at School

Students should not arrive at

school before 8.40am as we

have no supervision before that

time. If students do arrive

before this time they should be

seated in the COLA area until

the teacher is on duty. Any students who are

arriving any more than 5 minutes before this time

on a regular basis should be attending OOSH.

Family Holidays during School term. The Department of

Education’s advice to parents is as follows:

“Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If

travel during school term is necessary, discuss this with your

child’s school principal. An Application for Extended Leave

may need to be completed. Absences relating to travel will be

marked as leave on the roll and therefore contribute to your

child’s total absences for the year.” Applications for Extended

Leave are available from our office.

Stage 1 and 2 Excursions

Our stage 2 students set off for

the Blue Mountains very early

yesterday morning. They settled

into Caves House at Jenolan

Caves and they were lucky

enough to do a night tour of one

of the caves. Weather is very

chilly but I'm sure this wont stop them having a

great time.

Stage 1 Students are off to the Wetlands next

Tuesday. They are all very lucky to have these great

learning experiences.

Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a selective

high school in 2020

Selective high schools cater for high achieving

academically gifted students who may otherwise

be without sufficient classmates at their own

academic and social level. These schools help gifted

and talented students to learn by grouping them with

other gifted and talented students, teaching them in

specialised ways and providing educational materials

at the appropriate level.

Applications for selective high school placement are

considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High

School Placement Test results and school assessment

scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will

be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.

If you would like to have your child considered for

Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need

to apply on the internet using a valid email address

(not the student’s email address). Follow this link:-

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/

selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-

7.

The application website opens at that link on 9

October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You

must apply before the closing date. There are no

paper application forms. If you do not have internet

access, you could apply at a public library. If you have

a disability that prevents you from using a computer,

you can contact the Unit for assistance . Information

regarding the information booklet was sent home

earlier this week.

Gwandalan Accident

We were all greatly saddened to hear of the death of

a young Mannering Park man in Gwandalan last

Saturday night. I believe he is a friend of a number of

our past students. We offer our deepest sympathy to

his family and friends at this very difficult time.

Kind Regards

Sandy Notley

2019 Student Leadership

Term 4 is the time of year where Year 5 students are

given the opportunity to run for student leadership

elections. Students will be asked to nominate themselves

and collect endorsements from teachers and Mrs Notley.

They are invited to produce an A3 size poster introducing

themselves to the school. These will be displayed in the

library from Week 5. Students then prepare and present

a speech, in Week 7, to the school (Years 1-6) promoting

the qualities they would bring to the role of a student

leader at Gwandalan Public School in 2019. Years 1-6 and

staff will then vote to elect a new school leadership team

for the next school

year.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

School uniforms promote a sense of belonging for students and create a positive identity for the school community.

School uniforms also contribute to the personal safety of students by allowing easier recognition of students inside the

school and in the community. Schools expect students to wear the uniform during school hours, while travelling to and

from school, and when engaged in school activities out of school hours.

At Gwandalan Public School we encourage our students to take pride in their appearance and to wear the ap-

proved uniform.

To order via our online Uniform Shop: www.gtschool.com.au

Click on ‘Your School Uniforms’

Click on Gwandalan Public School logo

Order and Pay for required items Pick up your order from the Uniform Shop or it will be delivered to your child ’s class Hats

Our school hat is to be worn for all sporting activities and in the playground during recess and lunch. Students must play

indoors (e.g. library) or under the shaded areas (e.g. COLA and courtyard) if they do not have an approved school hat.

Footwear

Students are expected to wear plain black school shoes and plain white socks. On sport days, students should wear jog-

gers.

Year 6 Shirts

Towards the end of each year, students in Year 6 can purchase special Year 6 shirts. In Term 4, Year 6 shirts can be worn

on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.

Sport Representative Jumpers

Students who represent Gwandalan Public School at regional levels can purchase special representative jumpers. These jumpers are not part of our regular school uniform and can be worn on Friday only.
