tNavigator 18.3
Rock Flow Dynamics
October 2018
Key improvements in 18.3
tNavigator kernel: Default settings for grid properties output have been changed from "all data at all time steps" to "at RPTRST time steps". Graphs are still saved at all time steps. Geology Designer: A tool for collective work of multiple users is implemented:
objects can be transferred between projects. Cokriging algorithm and Kriging Variance calculation is available in 3D
interpolation. PVT Designer: Non-equilibrium phase state may be modeled for compositional
models (different rate of gas liberation from liquid and its dissolution).
Assisted History Matching and Uncertainty: quadratic Proxy model may be built from selected model’s variants. Resulting formula of Proxy model is available.
Model Designer: Possibility to load hydraulic fracture parameters in a table form Network Designer: Possibility to create several variants of network and compare
results
Compatibility with previous versions
In simulator: default settings for the amount of results output have been changed. Instead of previously used "all data at all time steps", now grid properties are saved at the time steps according to RPTRST keyword. Graphs are still saved at all time steps.
In simulator: INIT keyword must be specified in GRID section to export initial properties in binary format E1/E3.
In Graph Calculator: syntax of graph aggregation has been improved (no backward compatibility).
In AHM module: models with reservoir coupling option may be calculated (no backward compatibility).

Geology Designer: histograms, crossplots, CDF graphs and MDS tab
• The following tools are available when AHM module is started from Model Designer: new interface for RP tables, optimization for the case with many saturation regions

Collocated Co-kriging
Collocated co-kriging can be used to model a property using secondary data (property, 2D map or VPC)
Module: Geology Designer
Collocated Co-kriging
Example of the permeability property modeled using the porosity as secondary data. The spatial distribution trend is preserved
Module: Geology Designer
The porosity model is used as secondary data for the permeability modeling
Kriging variance
The kriging variance can be computed during continuous property and facies modeling
Module: Geology Designer

Model obtained by kriging Kriging variance
The kriging variance can be used as an appreciation of the kriging uncertainty
SVG symbols of wells
Loading of custom symbols for wells is made available Symbols are mapped to wells via codes assigned manually in the Wells Table
Module: Geology Designer
Merge Logs
Logs can be merged: 3 merge types
Module: Geology Designer
Merge: if the selected logs present points located at the same depth, in the resulting log, these points will be replaced by the values of the last selected log (FCh in this example)
Merge Logs
Logs can be merged: 3 merge types
Module: Geology Designer
Overwrite: the last selected log rewrites the resulting one (FCh in this example)
Merge Logs
Logs can be merged: 3 merge types
Module: Geology Designer
Ignore: If the selected logs present points located at the same depth, in the resulting log, these points will be replaced by the values of the first selected log
Import well logs in LAS format Module: Geology Designer
The well name can be taken from WELL or UWI mnemonic of the LAS file, or from the las file name
Logs with equal names can be merged, overwritten or renamed (using a number)
The depth omissions can be kept, filled with 0 values or filled with empty values
Display patterns on discrete logs
Patterns can be defined for discrete categories during palettes creation
Module: Geology Designer
New palette definition
Display patterns on discrete logs
The selected patterns can be displayed on the Well Section (Log Settings)
Module: Geology Designer
Log Settings
Display the uncertainty on logs
The log uncertainty can be displayed on the Well Section (Log Settings)
Module: Geology Designer
Log value - Log value * uncertainty range/100
Log value + Log value * uncertainty range/100

Loading data from database
Wells and well logs can now be imported from a database. This is done via special workflow entries
An example script is available upon request
Module: Geology Designer

Fluid properties can be set constant or varying from block to block
Volumetric properties can be calculated for: • Entire Grid • Oil and Gas
Zones combined • Oil Zone only • Gas zone only
Connected components
Connected Components calculation now returns another (optional) grid property: number of blocks in each component
A new calculation is available: Filter Small Connected Components
Module: Geology Designer
The classifier property is modified so that the smaller connected components vanish
Compute faults using point sets

Top and Bottom definition cut the top and the bottom of the fault
Number of nodes along I and J definition
Calculate the area of a polygon Module: Geology Designer
The area of any polygon (closed or not) can be calculated and displayed in Table tab

Porting data between projects
Grid properties, wells, and any kind of other objects can be copied from one project to another
Module: Geology Designer
Module: Model Designer Model Designer
Module: Model Designer Add faults to the model It is possible to specify which faults will be added to dynamic model and define
their properties
• Transmissibility Multiplier and Diffusivity Multiplier are the parameters of MULTFLT keyword
• Threshold pressure is the
parameter of THPRESFT keyword
Module: Model Designer Hydraulic Fractures Settings It is possible to define the parameters Hydraulic Fractures in table form
It is possible to: • Copy the data from the table and insert it into text editor • Insert the data copied from file into the table
Fracture Table is an alternative way to model hydraulic fractures via LGR. In this case it is easier to manage large amount of data comparing to conventional workflow (FRACTURE_PATH → FRACTURE_PLANE → FRACTURE_TEMPLATE → FRACTURE_STAGE → FRACTURE_ARITHMETIC)
Module: Model Designer Hydraulic Fractures Settings Each parameter can be specified in a separate column
• Any number wells can be described in one table
• Multistage Fracturing can be defined: one line of the table corresponds to one fracture stage
• The timestep when the particular fracture stage becomes active can be set
• Fracture Plane for Planar Fractures can be defined by specifying Fracture Half-Length and Fracture Height in the table
Module: Model Designer Hydraulic Fractures Settings Fracture Table can be applied to the model via the special Schedule Rule:
• New Global Rule is available: Enable Fracture Table.
• If this rule is added to the strategy, the properties from the specified Fracture Table (grid and schedule properties) will be added to the model
Module: PVT Designer PVT Designer
Three-phase flash Module: PVT Designer
Three-phase flash for gas/oil/water systems is introduced CO2 may exist in all three phases (as in CO2SOL keyword) PVT-dependent water density, viscosity, CO2 content, etc. are
calculated
Non-equilibrium flash Module: PVT Designer
Non-equilibrium flash is introduced (keywords DRSDT, etc.) New experiments are added: NCCE, RELAXATION, NCVD Algorithm parameter λ can be made a variable for matching
NCCE is similar to CCE,
except that equilibrium
settles over some finite time,
rather than instantly
Fingerprint plot Module: PVT Designer
A histogram of molar quantity of components plotted against molecular mass is now available
Also shown during Splitting and Lumping where it serves for quality control.
