Welcome to Dawah Shirts. Our shirts and products are designed to be a potential tool for Dawah, inviting to Islam. Dawah can be done with close friends or people you meet on the street. Sometimes, especially with strangers, it can be difficult to start calling to Islam out of nowhere, and many people may be turned off by this approach. These shirts are meant to be conversation starters. With many different styles and de-signs, you can find the perfect shirt that suits you and gets people all around you in-terested in learning more about Islam.

WAS PANORAMA RIGHT ABOUT ISLAM? Islamic Punishments Muslim do not believe in jungle justice. Many of us living in the west have images of crazy Mullahs running riot, cutting off hands and chop-ping off heads. This is the unfortunate caricature of Islamic law por-trayed by the media. However this is not the case at all, and is evident just by looking into Islamic history, for instance Richard W. Bulliet a Pro-fessor of History at Columbia University highlights this point “…minutely studying case after case, they have shown that justice was generally meted out impartially, irrespective of religion, official status, gender….” To be frank, Islamic law does prescribe harsh punishments, but Muslims would argue that these are suitably so. These punishments are often de-scribed as “barbaric”, however this perception is based upon our current views on crime and society. If the punishments are viewed in the context of Islamic philosophy, without superimposing liberal or our own personal values on the discussion, these perceptions will change. Islam considers these punishments as a deterrent and a last resort, and one of the most powerful arguments for the deterrent effect of harsh punishments comes from the common-sense notion that people are conscious of pain or death more than a relatively short and comfortable stint in prison. Even western scholars appreciate this point, for instance Ernest van den Haag, the late Professor at Fordham University stated, “What is feared

most deters most.” Muslims completely reject the accusation that these rules are barbaric. They serve as a deterrent to ward off the occurrence of crime in society. The Qur‟an, the Holy book of the Muslims, views oppressive trials and hardship as worse than killing, hence for some crimes, capital punishment is a suitable punishment. To contextualise this fur-ther, Islamic law requires detailed pre-conditions to be in place prior to conviction, for example there are eleven preconditions for the punishment for theft to be applied. Ex-plaining this fact Professor of Law at Harvard University Noah Feldman states, “Today, when we invoke the harsh punishments prescribed by Shariah [Islamic law] for a hand-ful of offences, we rarely acknowledge the high standards of proof necessary for their implementation.” Islamic law actually gives the defendant greater basic rights, but also recognises that society has rights too. For example with regards to burden of proof, Islam requires much higher levels of proof compared to the liberal tradition of ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’. In this regards the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) said, “…if a per-son has a way [e.g., alibi, excuses] let them go, as it is better for a judge to make a mistake in dismissing charges than in applying the punishment on an innocent.” In other words there must be no doubt at all rather than the liberal concept of beyond rea-sonable doubt, which is based upon common sense rather than certainty. The Islamic concept considers certainty as the criteria for passing criminal judgements.

Page 43: TMS 25

Islamic law exists to protect both the individ-ual and society, defining when one out-weighs the other which is a point that seems to have been lost or ignored in liberal socie-ties today.

Anti-Semitism “Muslims hate Jews”. This is what you are thinking right? But this is not true at all. Firstly if we were to look into Islamic history, we would see that Islam and Muslims have always protected and treated Jews with kindness and justice. For instance in 1168 CE Benjamin of Tudela, a Spanish Jew who travelled to Baghdad, described the situation of the Iraqi Jews in these words “In Baghdad there are about forty thousand Jews, and they dwell in security, prosperity, and honour…” In 1420 CE Rabbi Yitzhak Tsarfati wrote a letter to his persecuted German brothers from the Ot-toman Turkish territory inviting them to join him in prosperous and tolerant Islamic lands, the Rabbi mentions “Here you will find peace.” Heinrich Graetz, a 19th century Jewish historian expressed how Islamic rule in Spain favoured the Jews in the context of kindness and liberty of belief “It was in these favourable circumstances that the Spanish Jews came under the rule of Mahometans…They were kindly treated, ob-tained religious liberty, of which they had so long been deprived…” Now this is not some type of self-delusion, even western historians agree with the good treatment of Jews under Islam. For example the historian Karen Armstrong notes in her book; History of Jerusalem, “The Muslims had established a system that enabled Jews, Christians, and Muslims to live in Jerusalem together for the first time.” In similar light Professor Dean Phillip Bell, said that “Jews under medieval Islam never suffered from the same general negative perception as in the Christian West.” This treatment is not a historical accident rather it is deeply rooted in the Islamic tra-dition. For instance the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) said that “whoever harms a non-Muslim [under Muslim protection] harms me”. Additionally the Qur‟an, the book of the Muslims, in the 60th chapter states: “And He does not forbid you to deal kindly and justly with anyone who has not fought you for your faith or driven you out of your homes: God loves the just”. The difference between political confrontation and communal engagement has al-ways been clear in the Islamic tradition. This is why Islam has an unprecedented his-tory with regards to the treatment of the Jewish community. Reason to Believe Reading the above you are probably interested in why Muslims feel so strongly that they have to clarify their position on law and other religious minorities. Additionally, you may be intrigued with what Islam achieved in the past, and you may even be questioning what Islam has to offer today. However, all of the answers Muslims may give you rests on a profound philosophy that divine laws, values and principles are better and more applicable than their opposite, as the divine is All-Wise and All-Knowing. This concept is obviously founded on the existence of God and that God has announced himself to humanity.

Page 44: TMS 25

So how can we show that God exists? Well, a good start is to re-evaluate what we already know about existence itself, in other words the universe. We know that the universe must have had a beginning because without a beginning it would mean the universe is eternal, and the universe could not be eternal because that would imply that the past is infinite, and the infinite cannot exist in the real world. To justify this point let‟s take the following example into consideration, if I had an infinite number of books in a room, and I took two books away, how many do I have left? You may reply "Infinity" or those who are logically minded “Infinity minus two”. In any case, both answers just don‟t make sense because I have taken away from infinity but still have infinity, and I have two less than infinity, which would mean I can count how many books I have in the room, but I can‟t! Therefore the infinite simply leads to contradictions and it doesn‟t exist in the real world. So it logically follows that the universe must have begun to exist at some point in time. But what does this mean?Well, this means that the universe must have had a cause. Because if everything we know and see that begins to exist has a cause, for example an explosion or noise in a room, then the universe - which also began to exist - must also have a cause. So just by starting with what we know about the universe, we come to the surprising conclusion that we have good reasons to be-lieve that God exists. In this light how do we know God has announced himself to humanity? In short, if one of the revealed books can provide good reasons to believe it is from the di-vine, then it essentially answers the question. Muslims believe that the Qur‟an is the revelation from God as the Qur‟an always mentions nature as signs for God‟s existence, power and majesty. Every time these signs are mentioned, they are ex-pressed with great accuracy, and they also give us information that could have never been known at the time of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon Him). One of these signs includes the function and structure of mountains. The Qur‟an mentions that the mountains have “peg” like structures and that they have been embedded into the earth to stabilize it. This fact has only been revealed by Geolo-gists in recent times. So how can we explain this in light of the fact that this is rela-tively recent science, with no one at the time of revelation knowing this informa-tion, or even remotely having the possible technology to acquire such knowledge? http://www.rahmamercy.org.uk/index.asp Asalam Alaikum I attended a talk on Saturday last week and also sat through a presentation by 'Rahma (Mercy)'. It's an ex-cellent charity doing fundamental work to help educate the people of Kosovo and Albania with their basic beliefs and teachings of Islam. These countries have been stripped of their Islamic heritage over a period of 40+ years by the Communists who imprisoned those who prayed, fasted, or even kept a Quran in their own homes. Alim's were system-atically executed. Today all these people have are the horror stories of the persecution they witnessed for a religion and be-lieve they now hardly know. Of course they are passionate when asked "what are you?" "Alhamdullillah Muslim, Muslim!" Sadly however many don't even know who "Allah Ta Aala" is! These are our neighbours, about whom Allah Ta Aala will ask us about on the Day of Judgement - how will we respond? Of course we all give to our homelands as we should but we MUST remember our neighbours. As Allah is my witness I have donated what little I can, and only mention it to encourage you all to donate WHATEVER you can. Allah Ta Aala shall reward your intentions. It will take 5 minutes – it's encouraged never delay a good deed. ...Say: "Whatever you spend of good must be for parents and kindred and orphans and AlMasakin (the poor) and the wayfarers, and whatever you do of good deeds, truly, Allah knows it well." Al-Baqara 2:215 Tabrani narrates in `Kabeer' from Rafai bin Mukkessur Ridwani (Radi Allahu Ta' ala Anh) that the Holy Prophet (Sail Allahu Alaihi wa Sallam) says: "Charity wipes out sin and protects from a bad death." YOUR support WILL help to revive the practice of Islaam among our Muslim brethren. Jazakallah for taking the time to read this email. The link is at the top of the email. "Rahma (Mercy) charity was founded in 1999 in re-sponse to the plight of the refugees from the war in Kosovo. We have since grown and become a regis-tered Charity and an NGO in Kosovo." With the support of generous donors we have been able to provide support to thousands of people in the poor and needy communities of Kosovo & Albania.

Over the last few years we have been able to complete many successful projects in ar-eas such as Medical & Health provision, Water Sanitation, Education, Community Re-development, Orphan Sponsorship, provision for Madrassah and Masjid construction & renovation. Many of the orphans have been affected by conflict and as a result some also suffer from psychological trauma. The number of orphans being sponsored by our gener-ous donors has increased year by year.

Rahma (Mercy) has also been running seasonal projects distributing food on the occa-sions of Ramadhan and Qurbani.

In the coming years we aim to increase our income generation projects so the poor be-come self-reliant and can break out of the cycle of poverty and dependence.

We would like to thank our do-nors for their kind support with-out which none of our projects would be possible.

The UK boasts a culturally diverse population with ethnic minorities accounting for almost 8% of the population in the 2001 census. It is becoming increasingly apparent that each population group, either that determined by relig-ion or ethnicity, have differences in terms of illness behaviour, seeking assistance with health matters and beliefs about illness.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is still the largest cause of death in the United Kingdom, a fact which also applies to ethnic minority groups. Research has found that those people from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka carry a fifty percent higher risk of suffering from an early death due to heart disease than others living in the UK. Furthermore, those from the southern areas of Asia show an apparent increase in the likelihood of developing heart conditions than the rest of the UK‟s general population. It is not certain why these differences are occurring but it is thought to some degree, to relate to attitudes to smoking, diet and exercise.

In 19991 and again in 2004, the Health Survey for England performed surveys on ethnic minority groups. Partici-

pants were randomly chosen and then visited by a researcher who obtained survey results.

There was an increase in the prevalence of CVD in all ethnic minorities but more worryingly the increase was

particularly high in Pakistani men when the two surveys were compared.

Black Caribbean men have a much higher prevalence of stroke – the risk is almost two thirds higher than the

general population. Indian men also have a higher risk of stroke (relative risk 1.42).1 However, high rates of

stroke were also seen in Bangladeshi women, Pakistani women and Irish men.

The 1999 and 2004 surveys both reported that the prevalence of diabetes is greater in men than women. The

observed prevalence was markedly higher in Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian and Black Caribbean patients.1

For the Bangladeshi and Pakistani population this represents an almost 5 times higher prevalence than the general population.

The 2004 survey also reported on self-reported health, longstanding illness and social support.

Bangladeshi and Pakistani men and also Black Caribbean women are more likely to report bad or very bad

health. The cause of this is unclear.

Pakistani women and Bangladeshi men were more likely to report the presence of a longstanding illness

which limited them on a daily basis. Furthermore, the figures had increased in Pakistani women by almost 10% when compared to the results of the 1999 survey.

Of more concern, all ethnic minorities reported a severe lack of support, especially people of Pakistani and

Bangladeshi origin. National Statistics; Population, Ethnicity and Religion; Census 2001. The UK Healthy Living project involves UK Medical and Dental students giving advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and therefore reducing the incidence of disease in ethnic minorities.

We currently provide the following services in the patient‟s own language:

Advice seminars on lifestyle modifications (e.g. weight reduction, salt reduction, healthy low-fat diet and in-

creased exercise).

Health Screening workshops– measuring blood pressure, blood glucose levels, plotting weight and height.

Breast and Ovarian Cancer Advice seminars

Oral Hygiene seminars

Smoking Cessation seminars

One in ten Britons will be Muslim within the next two decades. So Says the Pew Forum on Relig-ion and Public Life.

There will be some wriggling on seats about this demographic projection. But what there won't be is enough serious consideration of how secular Britain must meet Islam half-way in the UK.

What do I mean by this?

Let me start by saying that I grew up in Britain's most Islamic city.

And my experiences in Bradford were one of the reason why I spent many months in my twenties travelling through parts of the Muslim world. Some of the warmest welcomes I have ever received by strangers were in Iranian cities like Teheran and Isfahan and Pakistani cities like Quetta, Mul-tan and Lahore.

Subsequently, I became a journalist and returned to spend several months in Pakistan, as well as travelling widely in Afghanistan, Iraq and a number of Arab states.

I spent two months in Kuwait in 2003. But here's the thing. By 2030 there will be more Muslims in Britain than there are in Kuwait. The UK, still a global power in the western world, is poised to be-come a major player in the wider Islamic world by dint of its multi-million-strong Muslim popula-tion.

But is Britain getting its head around this? Or are many non-Muslim Britons failing to engage with what Islam requires.

As Baroness Warsi said last week, it is not helpful to divide Britain's Muslim population into radi-cal and moderate camps.

On average all Muslims, up to a point, share a particular worldview. It is more conservative, for instance, on questions surrounding family life, than many non-Muslims would appreciate.

And, in many respects, an infusion of cultural values which put old-fashioned ideas of decency front and centre may not be a bad thing in a country where, as Family Affairs has noted before, family life has been dissolved by the unforeseen consequences of a well-meaning welfare state.

It is up to us, non-Muslims, to show more interest in a faith which means so much to its adher-ents.

On one level this is a personal choice. My contacts with devout Muslims have made me consider my own Catholic faith in a fresh light. I have taken Lent more seriously after talking to one Muslim about the fasting and abstinence demanded by Ramadan.

But on another level British society needs to reflect the growth in British Islam.

Watch TV and wait for the evidence of British Islam - it is virtually invisible. Or, at least, it projects a particular kind of progressive or regressive Islam.

You will know Islam is being taken seriously when, by 2030, there is a commercial for soap pow-der featuring a woman in a hijab.

Dear Friends Millions of brave Egyptians are right now facing a fateful choice. Thousands have been jailed, injured or killed in the last few days. But if they press on in peaceful protest, they could end dec-ades of tyranny. The protesters have appealed for international solidarity, but the dictatorship knows the power of unity at a time like this – they‟ve desperately tried to cut Egyptians off from the world and each other by completely shutting down the internet and mobile networks. Satellite and radio networks can still break through the regime blackout -- let‟s flood those air-waves with a massive cry of solidarity showing Egyptians that we stand with them, and that we‟ll hold our governments accountable to stand with them too. The situation is at a tipping point -- every hour counts -- click below to sign the solidarity message, and forward this email: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/democracy_for_egypt/?vl People power is sweeping the Middle East. In days, peaceful protesters brought down Tunisia‟s 30-year dictatorship. Now the protests are spreading to Egypt, Yemen, Jordan and beyond. This could be the Arab world's Berlin Wall moment. If tyranny falls in Egypt, a tidal wave of democracy could sweep the entire region. Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak has tried to crush the rallies. But with incredible bravery and de-termination, the protesters keep coming. There are moments when history is written not by the powerful, but by people. This is one of them. The ac-tions of ordinary Egyptians in the coming hours will have a massive effect on their country, the region, and our world. Work With Us BMIT can only continue in its crucial work with your support. The organisation

is solely led by volunteers. Regardless of where you reside or the amount of

time you have to spare, you can help! If you would like to support us in turn-ing our vision into a reality in your communities then please get in touch.

The Prophet (saw) advised to: “Take benefit of five before five: Your

youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your

wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccu-

pied, and your life before your death”

(Narrated by Ibn Abbas and reported by Al Hakim)

What We Do

BMIT offers a range of services and activities aimed

at both the Muslim and non-Muslim populace. Our

services differ from community to community,

since no one community has the same need.

Islamic Knowledge - BMIT holds lectures, semi-nars and one-to-one classes (upon request). We

are committed to providing an authentic learning experience to all who desire to increase their

knowledge of the deen. Tafsir, hadith, fiqh classes are easierly arrangable during our week. Further-

more, we have specific classes for sisters, held by two female scholars.

Abu Umamah (ra) relates that the Prophet

(saw) said: “Read the Qur’an, for verily it will

come on the Day of judgement as an interces-

sor for its companions.” [Sahih Muslim].

Events – BMIT holds events to engage the community in highlighting social, po-

litical and economical issues affecting them. Previous events have involved the

Foreign Commonwealth Office and have been focused on the Israeli-Palestinian

conflict.

New Muslims - BMIT prides itself on its dawah work, with an average of 80 sha-hadahs / conversions a year over the past 10 years. We believe in conveying the message of Islam directly from the source – the Qur’an and Sunnah, in a concise

and clear manner. We have been blessed with a highly educated scholarly team and we aim to maximise our strengths to excel our work to its full potential.

Family – We offer family support sessions and free drop in sessions with an Is-

lamic scholar. Feedback from our research has shown that a number of minori-

ties do not take advantage of mainstream service for advise and counsel-

ling. Therefore BMIT is committed to provide these services to its communities.

Interfaith Dialogue - BMIT are committed to interfaith dialogue. We have a

lead on interfaith events and in all our centres and this is an activity we consider

high among our priorities.

Youth – We offer many youth related programmes around education, mentoring,

employment and sport. Our future is in the ability and capability of our youth.

Thus we aim to do all we can to provide great opportunities and educate youth

within our communities.

99 Names of Allah (PART 1 OF 2)

A SISTERS ONLY COURSE WITH USTADHA BINT AHMAD “The Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah” “And to Allah belongs the most beautiful names, call Him by them…” al-A‟raaf (7:180) “Verily Allah has ninety-nine names, a hundred less one. Whosoever memorises [and understands] them has en-tered Paradise.” (Saheeh Muslim) This unique course consisting of 2 parts with this being part one will delve into all the 99 Names of Allah and at-tempt to instil and bring these very names into ones life. As places are limited we will be taking Sisters on a first come first serve basis with priority given for the 2nd completion part of this course which will occur in March 2011 to those who enrol for this first part of the course. Knowledge of Allah‟s names and attributes will shape and influence the personality and behaviour of a Muslim. It will also motivate him to meet his Lord, depend on Him, understand Him and know what He (SWT) likes and dis-likes. If you love someone you will know everything about him/her. How much do we really know about Allah (SWT)? We claim that we love none but Him, but do we really know what angers Him and what pleases Him? Before we study Allah‟s names and attributes, we must first be aware and understand the purpose of studying His names and attributes. There are two main purposes of studying the names and attributes of Allah (SWT): 1. To have knowledge about Him, i.e. to know who we are calling and relying upon 2. To know what He likes and dislikes The reason why we must learn about what Allah (SWT) likes and dislikes is in order for us to abstain from those things which He detests. We must also only love those whom He loves, and hate whom He hates. This is the na-ture of true love as you can never ally with one who hates the one you love. Some fruits of Studying the Names and Attributes of Allah 1. You will love what He (SWT) loves When you love someone you will want to know everything about him/her, spend time with him/her and like what he/she likes, and hate what he/she hates. If we love Allah we should also love His attributes. Allah (SWT) says, “I for-bid upon myself oppression.” Therefore, out of love to Him we should also hate oppression. This is because you can never love someone and also love what he/she hates. The fact that Allah (SWT) is Generous, it should also make us generous as we love whatever our Lord loves. 2. You will always feel secure and be loved by Allah (SWT) The Messenger Muhammad (SAW) said: “When Allah loves a servant he calls Jibreel and says to him, „I love so and so, so love him...‟‟ (Saheeh ul-Bukhari) Therefore, loving what Allah loves will make you closer to Him. And the one who is close to Allah, He (SWT) will put love into the hearts of the angels for that person, and Allah (SWT) will always shadow that person with His Protec-tion and Mercy. 3. Your taqwa and emaan will increase Knowing Allah‟s names, such as al-‟Aleem, as-Samee‟ and al-Baseer, will always make you think twice before you attempt to commit any sin. This is because when you know that Allah is al-‟Aleem (The Most Knowledgeable) you will always be aware that nothing will ever happen without Allah to know about it. Also, when you know that Allah (SWT) is as-Samee‟ (The All-Hearer) and al-Baseer (The All-Seer), your chances of doing haraam will decrease as you will be aware that Allah Hears and Sees every single thing that you say and do. 4. You will never despair and lose hope in Allah When you know that Allah (SWT) is al-Ghafoor (The Forgiver) and ar-Rahmaan, you will never lose hope in Allah (SWT) as you know that He is always ready to accept our repentance. Therefore, the true Muwahhid will never lose hope in his Lord, start to think that he will never be forgiven or it is too late for him to change. There are many more fruits and virtues of studying Allah‟s names and attributes, but in order to gain these you must study and understand every single one of His names. ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: MUSLIM YOUTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Facilitated by Sabino Miranda [Climate Change Youth Development Trust (CCYDT)]* Date: Saturday 26th February 2011 Time: 11am - 1pm Venue: Ilford Islamic Centre, 52-58 Albert Road, Ilford IG1 1HW The Youth are the future leaders of tommorow, however what kind of planet are we leaving them to live in, is the real question ? Many Muslim youth live in cramped, overcrowded, polluted and less green places which can have adverse affects on health, spirituality and outlook in life. A clean, safe and sustainable environment is more likely to inspire and raise aspirations. A green economy requires new technology and skills which many youth can get involved and benefit from. This roundtable discussion will look at: - 'The bigger picture' - How climate change is linked to the communities, the environment and economy, its impacts and affects. - How we have to adapt and prevent it from getting out of control - How different faith youth communities can work together and take action at the grass roots to improve the local and global environment . - Examples of good practice To confirm your place please can you email your name, organisation, number of people at-tending and mobile number to: [email protected] For more information please contact Mizan Raja onTel: 020 8478 2468 x 987

Feeling Disconnected?

Assalamu alaikum my dearest brothers and sisters

It’s been a while since I wrote to everyone but I pray you are all well and in the best of iman and

health! But for those who aren’t feeling like they are in the best of iman right now this article is

for you especially.

Ramadhan, 10 days of Dhul Hijja, the day of Ashura, all these important dates of great virtue has

passed us now and with the busyness of life taking over especially with exams coming up for

many of us, it is normal for many of us to feel spiritually disconnected and experience a decrease

in our iman.

Although if you are feeling spiritually disconnected, then Alhamdulillah! Because there are so

many people walking on this earth that are truly disconnected and they are unable to “see” it. So

Alhamdulillah to the fact that Allah gave us insight to our faults and that we tasted the sweetness

of Iman and have had the beautiful feeling of contentment and pleasure when doing good for

the sake of Allah swt, so we may not be as disconnected as we think we are! And all we really

need to do now is just to work on getting that connection back and be bursting with Iman again

Inshallah.

Also when feeling disconnected and low in Iman, please don’t listen to whispers of shaitan when

he tries to make you feel hopeless and weak, putting us off making any effort to better ourselves

again.

“Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqoon (the pious), when an evil thought comes to them from Shay-

taan (Satan), they remember (Allaah), and (indeed) they then see (aright)”

[al-A’raaf 7:201]

We have to remember that we have Allah, and Allah loves us, and Allah wills good for us and He

gave us life, so we have time to do good and increase our amaals Insha’Allah and Allah is very

close to us...

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Allah says: ' When a

slave of Mine draws near to Me a span, I draw near to him a cubit; and if he draws near to Me a

cubit, I draw near to him a fathom. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.'''.

[Al-Bukhari].

Anyway the best thing to do when we feel like this is to just concentrate on increasing our good

deeds, performing them with sincerity and to be patient and consistent with those inshallah. This

is one of my favourites hadith which always gives me hope and brings me full faith that zikr and

performing virtuous deeds is the solution to this disconnected and empty feeling.

Page 61: TMS 25

"..my servant does not come closer to Me with anything more dear to Me than that which I

made obligatory upon him. My servant keeps coming closer to Me with more volunteer deeds,

until I love him. When I love him, I become His ear by which he hears, his eyes by which he

sees, his hand by which he holds and his foot by which he walks. If he asks Me anything I

shall give him. If he seeks My protection I shall grant him My protection… "(Al-Bukhari 6021)

At this moment I am also in a position where I am desiring my state of Iman to increase! And lately I’ve started to follow this program of Dhikr and Du’a prescribed by Dr Muhammad Abdul Hai Arifi. It’s a book called “A daily program of Dhikr and Du’a being a short course in self cor-rection”. And while I am trying to in still these good deeds into my daily routine, I thought to share with all of you Insha’Allah in hope I might help you also. I have typed up the introduction of the book and and posted it here: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=56219786123&topic=15195 Insha’Allah I’ll post the program of Dua and Dhikr soon too. And Dhikr is powerful when it comes to softening the heart, and bringing us closer to Allah so I really do hope you enjoy and feel enthusiastic about this course insha’Allah. Abu Ad-Darda’ reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “Shall I not inform you of the best of your actions, the most pure in the sight of Your Master, the one which raises your ranks highest, that which is better for you than giving gold and silver (in charity), and better for you than your meeting your enemies, so that you strike their necks, and they strike yours?" The companions urged, "Of course, O Messenger of Allah! (Inform us!)" He replied, "It is the Remembrance of Allah." (Reported by Abu Dawud) But remember to try not to overwhelm yourself with acts of ibadah as this in itself is one of shaitaans guises- inciting you to preform long feats of worship and then give up on them at a later stage. The most beloved acts of devotion to Allah are those that are regular inshallah. So keep renewing your intention and persevere. Humanity wavers in its levels of convictions and we as mere human beings are in a process of development inshallah. We are all imper-fect and we make mistakes, but the difference between the believers are the ones that re-pent! [O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance, in the hope that your Lord will re-mit your evil deeds and admit you to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow.] (At-Tahrim 66:8) Moreover, repentance brings about humbleness and a sense of helplessness to the only Crea-tor; Allah, and that is not easily acquired through other forms of worship. Allah says in the Qur'an: "Except those who repent, have faith and good deeds, those Allah will charge their sins for good deeds. Certainly Allah is most forgiving and merciful." (Qur'an 25:70) This is a greatest glad tiding for those who repent and combine their repentance with deep faith and good deeds. So stay hopeful brothers and sisters. May Allah keep us all guided on the straight path, ameen

Increasing Productivity:

Lesson 1 – The Privilege of Existence

On the morning of November 18th 2010, I was given a firm reminder of the privilege we have in our existence, and

that privilege being, to exist in the first place. If you’re someone looking at how to enhance your productivity, the

starting point has to be to recognize, appreciate and be thankful for the fact you have life in the first place; visit the

graveyard and you will see this for the privilege it is.

I awoke to the message, that a dear brother, Feroz Ganie, the Amir of AlKauthar Durban, South Africa, returned to

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. The brother, may Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him Firdous Al Aala, left this

world, and left a major whole in our team. Feroz, a key part of the efforts to mature the Dawah in South Africa will be

sorely missed, however his passing, should be a time for all of us to reflect. All of us need to take a step back from our

lives, and maybe even our roles in the efforts we are making for this religion and think about the reality of our exis-

tence and how quickly it could come to an end.

Every single one of us is busy, and yet every single one of us has no idea at what point we will return to Allah Sub-

hanahu Wa Ta’ala, and start our reckoning. Brothers and sisters, this is a firm reminder for all of us that the journey to

enhanced productivity has to start with being thankful that you exist in the first place. Subsequently, if you can remind

yourself of that, and regularly, what you should find is that you are able to achieve so much more.

Why will this be the case? Well, simply because when you reflect on the fact you are alive and then look at what you

are seeking to achieve in life, what you should find is that you are able to make active efforts to change certain things

in your life. These changes are things you are aware of, but make no dedicated effort to change, because in the back of

your mind, you’re confident in seeing old age. You may remember death, but when you imagine it for yourself, your

hair is white, you have children and even grandchildren, but do you have a guarantee for that?

Certainly, you, and the other 6 billion people you share this planet with, do not. Therefore, the crux to improving

yourself and achieving your ambitions and making the most of your time, is actually starting with today, and being

cognizant that tomorrow is an unknown.

Think about the companions (radiAllahu anhum) for a moment – they achieved so much, with such little resource.

Why? Well amongst the reasons for this is the mindset they had, summarized so well by the famous son of the leader

of the Muslims, Ibn Umar used to say: “In the evening do not expect [to live until] the morning, and in the morning

do not expect [to live until] the evening. Take [advantage of] your health before times of sickness, and [take advan-

tage of] your life before your death.” [Bukhari]

Therefore in our journey toward enhanced productivity, we should start by remembering the present is the only defi-

nite you have, as the next hour or day is not a guaranteed to us.

If you can do this, then inshaAllahu Ta’ala you will find that your productivity will also grow exponentially. When

you live for today, you will inevitably purify your intention. And a pure intention will bring a strange phenomenon,

something in Arabic called, ‘barakah’ and something that does not really translate.

It’s a strange thing, it cannot be described, it cannot be seen, it cannot be heard, but when you have it, you know it.

When Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala puts barakah in your time, and rewards your pure intention with this barakah, what

you will find is, you can achieve so much more, both in yourself and both with those whom also have it.

In the contemporary world of Dawah, you will see projects run across multiple time zones, meetings being held with

people literally on every corner of the earth, and like the old saying, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’

you will find an unquantifiable strength emerge. This comes from the barakah of people coming together with pure

hearts, and pursing the path, which leads to Paradise.

Therefore the lesson of the day is, see everyday as your last, and take nothing for granted. With that I ask you all to

put things in perspective, your projects, your relationships and your intentions, and see your productivity rocket. This

post was inspired by the death of a dear brother, whom I never met, never spoke to, never even saw, and yet he

touched my heart, as his very existence bought me comfort for the work he sought to do to raise the banner of tawheed

in South Africa. I ask you all to make a sincere du’a for our brother, Feroz, that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala accepts

his great works for AlKauthar in South Africa, and reward the short life he had with Firdaus Al Aala.

FULL OF HUMILITY

Put all our pride away, always find a gentle word to say you know we shouldn't fool our-

selves, Allah has given so much to you

and me. Put all our pride away,

Always thank Allah when we prey,

You know we shouldn't be full of ourselves

when we, should be full of humil-ity.

We're all livin' here together on this planet floatin' round the sun We're all equal to one another, no

one's better than anyone The only ting we have to weigh

us all apart is the faith only Allah can see,

deep inside our hearts.

Put all our pride away, always find a gentle word to say you know we shouldn't fool our-

selves, Allah has given so much to you

and me. Put all our pride away,

Always thank Allah when we

prey, You know we shouldn't be full

of ourselves

when we, should be full of hu-mility.

Trying hard to simply be hum-ble and never act too proud It's easy to trip and stumble with your nose up above the

clouds Its always best to be modest

and keep our feet on the ground

Cause pride will eat us up in-side if we're arrogant and loud.

Put all our pride away,

always find a gentle word to say

you know we shouldn't fool our-

selves, Allah has given so much to you

and me. Put all our pride away,

Always thank Allah when we prey,

You know we shouldn't be full of ourselves

when we, should be full of hu-

mility.

HMC is the product of a particular, prolonged situation – a situation of deceit

Murray was quieter in the first half, but began to line up more with his new partner in the sec-ond half of the match

Greg Akpele was al-ways a danger on the right with his pace and dribbling skills, and Lane was linking the midfield with the for-wards more than in his previous matches for his new club.

The back four was, with captain for the day, Joe Ellul once again standing out head and shoulders above any defenders on the pitch from either side. Gavin Major playing in the un-familiar (to APSA fans) right back position rather than is usual right wing role also stood out. Built more like your old fashioned full back; short, fast and strong, Major was running round all across the back line getting tackles in and breaking up attacks.

Brown in goal was his usual solid self, mak-ing a fantastic low div-ing save in the 38th

tion 4-3-3 formation, APSA were playing some very attractive football, keeping the ball on the ground and stringing together moves with some lovely crisp passing move-ments.

Powerful new central midfielder Jerome Ray was all muscle and power in the middle, and was complementing the more silky skills of playmaker Ady Semual alongside him. Upfront new boy Leighton, al-though lacking some match fitness, was more of your conventional Centre forward, using his bulk to cause the opposition defenders problems. Although his striking partner Chas

Like the old adage this really was a game of „two halves‟, with APSA doing most of the at-tacking in the first 45 minutes while the main threat came from the counter-attacks. In the second 45 mins of the match the two sides swapped roles with the visitors dominating the match and the home team counter attacking with pace.

Ex-Bowers man Antony Lane went closest to breaking the dead lock when he crashed a shot against the cross-bar on the half hour, but de-spite enjoying the big-ger share of the possa-tion the home side cre-ate very few clear cut chances.

Playing a more conven-

minute from a Bowers counter attack and in the second half pull-ing of two other great safes, at a time when the visitors were well on top.

When he was well beaten in the 80th minute, „captain mar-vel‟ Ellul was on the line to clear when the visitors thought they had nicked all three points.

Lane, apart from the shot that hit the bar also had two claims for penalties turned down, but a word here for the match officials, who were very fair to both teams and were very consistent with their decision making throughout the game.

Overall it was a dis-appointing game from the fans view point with no goals to see, but the result was a fair one in a game that neither side de-served to lose.
