The Mural Music & Arts Project (“MMAP”) educates, empowers, andinspires youth through participation in the arts. MMAP offers year-roundyouth development programs, serving the communities of East Palo Alto,Menlo Park, Redwood City, and the Potrero Hill neighborhood of SanFrancisco. MMAP began in 2001 as the East Palo Alto Mural Art Project,employing local teens to design and create a mural for every school in theRavenswood school district. Since then, MMAPʼs teen artists haveresearched, planned, and installed 13 murals in East Palo Alto and thesurrounding communityʼs schools. These murals reflect themes ofcommunity, cooperation, equity, justice, environment, and local history.The community's active and enthusiastic support inspired MMAP toexpand and diversify its programs to include arts education, Hip Hopmusic production, and dance. To date, MMAP has served over 681 youth,created 66 murals and produced original music that was written, recorded,and performed by MMAP youth.

Teen Mural ProgramThis summer, over 30 young people were employed to research, design,paint, and unveil a mural about peace for our community. After six weeksof researching International, National, Regional and Inner Peace, youthdesigned and composed this stunning mural, original hip hop dance andwritten performances, and spoken word pieces that envision peace for ourcommunity today.
